From beginner to chessmaster
Very good so far from what I have been reading. Would be good for anyone who is wanting to learn chess or to improve their game or even to become a grandmaster.

I rather suddenly started dominating my chess app as I neared the end of this book. I haven't tried my new skills out on my friends yet, but I can certainly say my game has improved. The principles of strategy, tactics, basically everything throughout the book, are explained very plainly and well. Now I'm playing with a plan, quickly sizing up the board to determine who has the advantage or how to gain advantage, making less blunders. My only suggestion is that the section on basic mating strategies, although a good quick reference, could provide direction on getting the king into that mating position. For that, I turned to Jose Casablanca's "Chess Fundamentals" found free at Gutenberg.org. He gives step by step directions for walking the opposing king into, say, the corner for mating. Everything else in Abbot's book, though, is superior.

Not bad, I like the description of the game play. I would have like to seen a lot more in depth piece strategies and explanation. Very disappointed in the size of the graphics. Way too small to my eyes.
