Farm and Ranch stores is much cheaper as in 8 or $9 a 2.5 gal jug... your def tank if it's on a truck should be about 10gal, to answer your question, when can you add it, you can do it at anytime... when your def tank is about 1/2 full or empty, just pour in about 2 jugs, which equals 5 gals... but, that second jug, add slowly especially when you get towards the last 1/4 of the jug, otherwise, the overfill splash gets kind of messy, and def, it'll crystalize on all other surfaces... so keep it in the jug or in the def tank... another note of interest, someone on this thread mentioned that you can pick up def fluid at some truck stops...
