Larsentil migfor 0 minutter sidenDetaljerI believe that the world would be a better place if everyone lived by the wisdom delivered in books such as "Tao Te Ching", Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations" and Epictetus' "Handbook".I've done some research to find the best version of the Tao Te Ching, and I found that it all depends on what I want to obtain: if I need a straightforward text in modern English, I would go for Stephen Mitchell's version. The text is less poetic, but it's easier to understand. In addition, there are thorough notes explaining what the the original text read. So after all, you do get a full picture of what Lao Tzu wanted to say.James Legge's version is a pearl in all its editorial setup including beautiful images and nice structuring of the text in verses. The language is a bit dated, but it strengthens the feeling of reading something from a different era. The wording is poetic, a bit complex and at times outright unclear, but it's exactly that what leaves space for one's own interpretation and further thinking.Bottomline: Read Legge's version and keep Mitchell's as a reference if and when you need to understand the text in plain language - yet, through the eyes of Mitchell, who has condensed the text to a format, which is sometimes quote far from the "original".

This isn't the main translation for good reason it is cumbersome with factoids and outdated words that fell out of use long ago and they take no (or very little) poetic license to fit the tone of the original book HOWEVER this version offers comments on translation and context that so many other copies are painfully devoid of if you wish to try your hand at understanding what the ancient people of China meant by The Tao then this is the book for you

I really liked this book exploring this philosophy; and recommend it for those wanting an introduction to it.It opens one to Eastern philosophy and it's way of thinking.

This was my first introduction to Tao Te Ching. I enjoyed reading every verse of this translation. The book never fails to remind me to take a deep breath and reflect/think calmly about whatever I am concerned about in real life. It taught me to let go when possible and see the beauty in spontaneity.Some of the concepts that the book presents are very profound and complex. The use of metaphors certainly helps simplify them. I also think that this translation does a great effort in helping readers understand those concepts. For example, even as a non-native English speaker, I found the language easy to understand, I also liked how the verses were structured and presented, and I appreciated that Sharon Levesque provided a summary of what the main concepts represent. These elements guided my reading as a first time reader, and I highly recommend this translation.

nice book but delivery was slow the original posted arrival date it hadnt even been shipped yet got it almost a week late

This book is so, well, just pretty. There are so many illustrations. The print and paper quality is outstanding. The way it is a hard cover, is different then anything I have even seen. The translation (and why) is very clearly explained and ends up being a solid mix between other translations ( Mystical vs. Political as an example). I find this version very readable and it bring to me a slightly different insight of the text content as well. Again, even the binding structure of this Tome and paper lends a degree mystery to it's overall character. I feels as great in the hands as it looks on the table, as reads and fills the mind with concepts of the Tao. I love it! - GDR MT

A beautiful book with quality covers, gold-edged pages and lovely illustrations.

The Tao Te Ching is an excellent instruction manual, and an intriguing capsule of a very Eastern way to look at life. Everyone should read it at least once. Some memorable quotes:“To know people is wisdom but to know yourself is enlightenment.To master people takes force, but to master yourself takes strength.To know contentment is wealth, and to live with strength resolve”.“The more you do for others, the more plenty is yours,And the more you give to others the more abundance is yours.”

A timeless classic. If you don't know the way of the Tao, get yourself in this reading. It' sime, yet sophisticated and when you get it you will come back for more and "unget it". So is the way of the Tao :)
