Excellent Mashtastic Device
The Heltec v3 has almost become synonymous with Meshtastic, 85%+ of the devices I see out there are Heltec v3s. This package is great to get you started with the world of Meshtastic; you have everything you need to made your first node. The Device does not come flashed with Meshtastic firmware out of the box but this is easy to do following the simple steps online.Whilst thr included antenna is not going to win any awards, it is completely capable of picking up nodes when you are outside.

lora lora board
I purchased and tried the DIYmalls 868MHz LoRa V3 LoRa32 ESP32 OLED Board, and I’m really impressed with its capabilities. This board combines the ESP32's processing power with LoRa for long-range communication, making it perfect for IoT projects. The built-in OLED display is sharp and convenient, especially for debugging. Setup was fairly easy, and it worked well . Range and connectivity were solid for testing in open areas. Overall, a versatile and reliable board for anyone working on LoRa-based projects.

You would be shocked at the range when paired with an inexpensive antenna
I put this thing in my attic with an inexpensive 915MHz antenna from Amazon and this thing picks up all of Seattle. Not only that, it has picked up nodes fifty miles away over water. I am super impressed.I'm powering it externally, so I don't really know how long it lasts on a battery, but it works well on USB power.Small, basically plug and play after flashing, and SUPER inexpensive. This and the Wizblock are now my go-to Meshtastic radios!
