Solid cast iron with antique design. This traditional process gives the holders an authentic antique look. Protective lacquer finish. Can be used either way to support a 15cm or 20cm wide shelf. Pre-drilled with two holes on the side of the wall and on the sides of the shelf to fix the screws. Screws included (please note that different screws may be required depending on the maximum load and wall type). 2 x Shelf Brackets Size: 150 x 200 mm. Each holder weighs approximately 500g. Manufacturing These holders are designed through a sand casting process - this is the process used in the Victorian era. The molten metal is poured into the sand mold with a period pattern. They’re dark but no black and being cast iron they have a metallic look. The images are a pretty close representation and they are finished to look like old cast iron. The iron is thick - they aren't flimsy. I think the brackets will be fine, but the way you anchor them into the wall is super important. They come with good sized wood screws, but if you're not able to sink all of them deep enough into solid wood behind drywall or plaster, it might not hold under that kind of weight. They are beautiful! If I were you, I'd find out how to mount them to do what you want them to do. Consulting with a fasteners pro would be wise... someone at a local hardware shop, or in the home building & renovating trade. Sorry if my terminology is off for Britain - I'm in the USA. Yes, they were worth every penny and the extra shipping cost. Even prettier than the photos. Nothing like this is available here in small sizes. **Q: Can you use these brackets on plasterboard walls?** A: Yes you can as long as you use platerboard fixings (wall plugs and screws heavy duty for plasterboard). **Q: does it require drilling deep holes in the wall? I am renting and hesitant to make huge holes in the walls.** A: It all depends.....What is the weight you will be putting on the shelf? Is the wall solid (brick or block) or is it plasterboard on a timber frame? Mostly on a solid wall surface it will require three holes per bracket drilled about 5 cm deep (2" inches) x 7mm diameter and filled with Plasplug type inserts to take 50 x 3 mm screws. Before drilling remember there may be pipes or cables in the wall!
