Vigilante by Marv Wolfman Vol. 1 (Vigilante (1983-1988))

Some try to say Vigilante was DC's answer to the Punisher, and there's no denying the similarities...but Vigilante had a hook the Punisher lacked. The Punisher killed criminals and that was it, while Vigilante's alter ego was the DA, trying to prosecute criminals and only going after the ones who escaped the justice system.This volume collects the Teen Titans annual that introduced the character, along with the first 11 issues of the comic series. It was a time when the series was really taking off and giving some of the best stories of its run. Ultimately, Adrian Chase's story would end in fifty issues but it started off with villains like the Electrocutioner, and Cannon. They were original villains that worked perfectly for Vigilante. It was a series built on the secret identity as much as on the hero, with Adrian Chase finding frustrations at work and in his personal life. Even Cyborg stops by for an issue to throw down.Over time, the series faced problems and took some strange turns before finding its feet again in the final ten issues. I hope they collect them all eventually so we can see Adrian's complete journey (though DC messed up the ending simply because they had no idea what to do with the character anymore).

I was born in the late 70s, so I have high nostalgia for the 80s and 90s comics. I was definitely more of a DC guy (but Marvel had some good stuff too). The New Titans is my all time favorite series. I know Adrian Chase debuted much earlier in Titans history than that, but that is how I am familiar with him. I only read a handful of issues of this series, but when I saw this collected edition getting released I knew I had to have it. It lived up to how much I enjoyed the series and character from when it was originally published. Marv Wolfman (along with Chuck Dixon) is one of my all time favorite writers. I can't think of one book he wrote that I didn't enjoy. Highly recommended!

People forget about Vigilante. It was one of the most innovative comics of the 1980s. It did a great job showing the psychological toll of being a Vigilante would have on a person who once believed in the law and how the contradictory nature of the the being a Vigilante would ultimately destroy the him.

Waited years for this series to be collected and was not disappointed. I loved the New Titans series from this generation which was one of the best comics coming out at that time, in my opinion, and that series introduced Vigilante which broke off into his own series. I collected all the Titans but missed the Vigilante series which I always wanted to read. This series ended at issue 50 and set up Checkmate which is another series I loved and wish they would release in collected form. I pre-ordered this volume and jumped into it as soon as it arrived, then didn't stop until the end. Can't wait for the next volume and am wondering why it hasn't at least been announced yet. Fingers crossed.

I'll get this out of the way first: The product itself is excellent. The color, the paper, and the book are all fantastic. As far as the actually content...I originally was exposed to Vigilante by reading the single issue, #17, "Father's Day" written by Alan Moore. What I saw in that issue was a grimy, gritty and dark comic, so I picked up this trade in hopes of finding more of the same. The disappointment doesn't start immediately, as the comic is indeed very dark in the beginning, but somewhere in the journey to the end it loses its grittiness and begins to play things safe. It's still enjoyable, Vigilante is an awesome hero, but he definitely looses his anti-hero status which is a huge letdown.

I loved this series...I would like to see the WHOLE series brought into this format. Not just the first 6 issues. Ideally, I would like to see this series brought out in hardcover. C'mon people! Let's make it happen!

this is a great book another Marv Wolfman classic they don't make book like this anymore.

Great run, I dont get why DC isn't printing the next volume

Bought this after watching Peacemaker. I knew that the character on the tv show was kind of it’s own thing, but I thought I’d check this out regardless. As it’s a collection of single issues and not one epic graphic novel story… it doesn’t really have any BIG stories. Just the villain of the week style stuff, nothing really groundbreaking. If you’re looking for a way better collection of “vigilante” stories from the old comics, then I’d suggest Essential Punisher instead.I’d say give this a miss.

As primeiras histórias são muito bacanas, um juiz que resolve fazer justiça com as próprias mãos. Mas a partir da metade do encadernado o personagem ganha superpoderes e fica difícil de engolir. Uma pena.Vale pela nostalgia e só

The Vigilante was a fantastic series starring Adrian Chase who was DC'S Punisher. I got all the original comics in mint collection! A collector! I miss this character. It's a pity Adrian Chase the Vigilante committed suicide in the last issue. But there was no other possible ending.
