Add a fan to the front of it & you are in business.
Not only is this a review, I think it will help you out. 1st off I live in a large apartment with 15 foot ceilings. I have an AC in my bedroom but not in living room. I use a large high velocity fan to blow cool air from bedroom into living room. Yet on hot days it does nothing. My living room becomes unbearably hot. I can't put an AC in my living room window. So this was an option. I'll try anything. Here's what I noticed. 1st you fill the tank on the side. The side lights up & can be changed to be many colors. Or you can keep the light off. It also has an option to change colors automatically every few seconds. In any case, keeping the light on is good because you can see the water level that way. The instructions say the filter soaks up the water. Says that even though the water tank maybe empty, it will still blow cold air. It claims to work for 8 hours before you need to refill. While this might be true, I find the water depletes after just a couple of hours. I also find it seems to be the coolest when water is in it. So periodically throughout the day, I find myself filling it up. No big deal. I have been keeping a large water bottle next to it. The air it blows is cold. Very similar to an air conditioner. But it doesn't blow fast. You'd do best to sit right near it. However, I put a small high velocity fan in front of it. The high velocity fan takes the cold air and blows that towards my couch. Works like a charm. Believe it or not, my entire living room is now staying cool. It's livable again. I don't think this would be the case if not for the small high-velocity in front of it. I have the Arctic air cooler sitting on the table on top of a small cracker box. So that it is exactly aligned with the fan. I like this thing so much, that I think I will be buying another one. My son's room gets hot at night & I don't dare put anything in his window. But I could very well put one on his bookshelf. I think the changing lights would be very cool for a child. I couldn't possibly recommend this more.

JUNK!
This product is a piece of junk. I bought two of them to help cool my 10 x 10 storage building but had no results. I could feel cool air when I placed my hand directly on the unit but could not feel air when I moved away from the unit. The 10 x 10 building was no cooler. I noticed the ads show the unit being used outdoors (poolside) and also suggest the unit for camping purposes. This will not work. The unit can not cool or help cool a small storage building and will certainly be a disappointment for larger areas. In addition to inability to cool as advertised, the unit is noisey & obnoxious. I also want to mention I contacted the seller direct to order a battery packet which was paid for but never received. Don't waste your time on this piece of junk. I assure you it will be hopes dashed.

Works great, but short life
I had one of these last summer and I loved it!! It is only designed to cool the air immediately in front or next to you, so if you have expectations of cooling a room, your looking at the wrong item. I spend my summer evenings often times just reclining after work watching TV or on my laptop. If I sit this next to me so that it blows directly towards me, I stay nice and cool, even if the rest of the room is rather warm. It works just like it says. My problem with it is that it only lasted that summer!! There are 2 problems, one I cannot control. The filter is actually not shaped very well and it touches the 2 electric elements inside. I noticed a burning smell, and sure enough, not only did that touching burn the filter, but it shorted out the electric wires. The fan still worked, but the water pump did not. I believe what the filter was touching was the wiring to the water pump. I did go ahead and buy another one for this upcoming summer, but this time I cut a small piece off the filter where it would be touching that electric wiring. I'm hoping that it will survive the next summer! Incidentally, I saw this same problem in someone else's review and that's how I got the idea. He cut the filter too. The second problem is that you can use tap water, but there may be calcium deposit buildup on the filter. You can do the vinegar soak thing, but it would be more convenient to use distilled water. Not a big issue as most water-related coolers and humidifiers demand the same thing. Fortunately, there are replacement filters for this and you can just simply replace the filter every end of season. The cost would be nearly as much as what you spend in buying many gallons of distilled water, or pretty close to it depending on how long you run the unit during the summer season. Buy now or pay later kind of thing. I still love it, even if it does have those two issues. I love being comfortable!

THIS ONE IS THE BEST OUT OF THE THREE I TRIED BY FAR - DON'T WASTE $ ON OTHERS
ONTEL AA-MC4 Arctic Air Personal Space & Portable Cooler | The Quick & Easy Way to Cool Any Space, As Seen On TV YES - "ONTEL AA-MC4 Arctic Air" - THIS IS THE BEST ONE - This one has the largest cooling capacity, is very quiet, easiest to fill, clean, and has beautiful lights, which really didn't matter to me but it is a nice touch. You can easily fill this unit and see the water reservoir clearly marking when to stop. I have actually had to move it back from me as I was quite chilled with it at about 2 feet away. At 4 feet it much better. Really great product! Also tried to dry the filter as instructed and had no issues. Again, easy to use and works much better than expected!! Am going to buy a couple more for my bedroom, yoga room and son's gaming room. Thank you! NOT EVEN CLOSE - $59.99 "Anbber Portable Air Conditioner" - VERY SMALL AND DOESN'T COOL - (Check out the comparison in the attached photos). This one is much smaller compared to the other 2 and is more expensive than the ONTEL. There is a tiny hole to fill the water and you have to add a little at a time with a provided funnel, that will surely get lost or misplaced. The LED light feature too is very dim, only being visible completely dark. Cleaning this one was much more difficult, and the surface space for the cooling vent was really a joke. I could barely feel the difference even though I had it on high and waited the recommended time. I am going to send this one back to get another ONTEL. NO, NO, NO - DEFINITELY DOES NOT WORK - $79.38 "Homedics MyChill Personal Space Cooler" - AFTER A FEW DAYS THE UNIT LEAKS AND IS NOT WORTH IT - (Don't have photos as this is in my office, now on the floor so the leaking doesn't damage any more papers, electronics, and desk wood). This unit is as large as the ONTEL, and for the short time it worked, it did cool well too. However, at some point about a week, after I had it, it started leaking the full contents of the water reservoir included in the tank onto my desk, laptop, and important papers. I tried everything to fix this, as it was nearly $90 and needed to cool my office. However, after attempting every recommendation, including buying a new fitter, it still will not work. I was over this, thus making me research other models and purchasing the ones included above. On a plus note, it is attractive looking, but if it doesn't work that really doesn't matter. Hoping I can find out from my friend how to return it too to Amazon since it is a POS. I have a beautiful office, with full floor to ceiling windows and an awesome view from the fifth floor. I very much enjoy viewing the amusement rides at Universal Studios and it's Islands of Adventures each day, however, by 1 pm the sun beams directly onto the windows heating my office to an unbearable 90+ degrees. Finding a way to cool my office has become necessary and besides these smaller units on my desk. I have added this fan (which also works well): "NewAir Portable Evaporative Air Cooler" - https://smile.amazon.com/NewAir-Portable-Evaporative-Humidifier-AF-310/dp/B009KGB4FK?keywords=air+conditioner+cooling+tower+fan&qid=1538267144&sr=8-6&ref=sr_1_6 I have also ordered this as well: "Honeywell CS074AE Evaporative 200 CFM Indoor Portable Cooler" - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CQ41RWS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I would love to hear anyone else's suggestions/advice. Great concept, quality control not so hot!
We live in a part of the country that is hot and humid, so I knew this wouldn’t cool a whole room, just me (hopefully). Our bedroom is on the third floor, and it can get up to 90 degrees up there in the summer; we have central air conditioning, but we’d have to make it freezing downstairs for it to be comfortable on the third floor. We used to have a window air conditioner, but it was loud, sucked up a ton of electricity, and dripped water down the side of the house and rotted the wood. We use regular fans, but sometimes having really hot air blow on you is almost as bad as no fan at all. We also used to use a window fan at night, but a) we couldn’t use it when it was too hot or raining, and b) it brought in all the pollen, pollution, and a million tiny bugs that got sucked through the screen! So: I love the concept of a personal evaporative cooler. When I got this and started using it, I measured the different between the room temperature and the air temperature in front of the fan; 5-6 degrees, not huge, but enough to make me feel cool enough so that I didn’t need to use the window fan. Things to be aware of: it turns itself off after 12 consecutive hours of use, so if you want to use it in the evening and then through the night, turn it off and on again before you go to sleep. When it is dry and you fill it up, about half the tank is immediately absorbed by the filter, so make sure to top it off. It is important to dry out the filter after each use, or it will get moldy; I just run the fan on high after I am done using it, and it dries out pretty quickly. If you run out of water while you are using it, it will still produce cold air until the filter dries completely. You can also put ice cubes in the tank to make things a little cooler ( they have to be small enough to fit through the tank opening). Now: I enjoyed it for just over a month. Then it died. Luckily, I had bought a second one for downstairs, so I still have a working one. So far, the second one is fine except for the light function if faulty; if I turn it on, it goes nuts and starts randomly flashing colors. I am about to return the first one. Meanwhile: I bought a different brand of air cooler, which seemed to work the first time, but the second time I filled it, all the water came straight out of the bottom of the machine. That one has already been returned. I am getting another one from a different brand today. Fingers crossed!

Updated: Requires low humidity to function well.
I work in a brick building that currently has no AC because of a renovation. On a warm day it can feel like an oven. It is starting to warm up and I'm getting desperate. I work in an 8 x 11 ft office with an 8 ft ceiling where I can close the door. I can tell you that space is probably as big as this unit can ever hope to cover. On high speed, some might say the fan is kind of loud. I measured 43 db at two ft away 32 db at six ft. Not terrible. You have to keep this close-by and in a small contained area if you expect to benefit at all. I'm in SW Ohio and outdoor humidity right now is 87%. This is an evaporative cooler, and there ain't a whole lot of evaporatin goin on right now. So, at the moment I am not feeling a lot of cooling. It is 0930 and I have had this going for about 2 1/2 hrs. The desk around it is a little cool to the touch but not cold. My advice to anyone considering purchasing one is if you live in a dry climate, it might not be too bad. On the other hand, if you live in a high humidity area, don't waste your money. Update 6/4/2020: right now it is 82F outside and 54% RH, and this cooler is blowing cool air. So, I am happy to have it, but for the record, I have just dumped my third 17 oz bottle of water into it over the last 8 hrs. I would suggest you use soft or bottled water as hard water would probably lime this up pretty quickly.

Don't buy this
This "Cooler" is nothing more than a tiny fan with a rag on it. This device works well, ONLY if you are 2-3ft from it. For 40 dollars you can get a high power fan and get more out of that then this. This device feels cheap from its plastic shell to the very components it has inside. The only thing this thing has going for it is its colorful side lights and its slick design. I haven't even started on the safety hazards this thing pose. For one when filling the item up, there is no funnel. Two if it still have water inside, the slightest tilt will make it spill water out of it through the vent. So if you plan on using this for your desk, don't bother. You'll fry your computer and at worst will cause a fire. This fan will not cool you down.

I could not be more pleased. Don't let bad reviews sway you from buying this...
I am serious when I say that I could not be more pleased with this unit. I live in Florida so it gets super hot. I have the little cooler running right now, next to me on the patio table and it is actually keeping me comfortable despite the blazing hot weather. If anyone gives this unit a bad review, it's because they don't understand what a personal space cooler is. This isn't an air conditioning unit to cool off an entire room. On the high setting, I can feel the cold air blow up to 30" away from the unit. At the lowest setting, I can feel it about up to 21" away. And this thing DOES blow cold air, not just cool. Of course I fill it up with refrigerator-chilled water, so that may have something to do with how cold it blows, I'm not sure. It has a big water reservoir on the side that holds a lot of water. You could actually put ice cubs in it along with water if you wanted to. Because of the big reservoir, the unit will run for a LONG time without having to refill it. I actually ran it yesterday, all day long on low (about 9 hours straight), and there was still enough water left in there to run for an hour or 2 longer. I love this unit so much that I bought 2 more once they dropped below $20. These units, coupled with little usb/battery operated fans, will keep us cool and comfortable while sleeping when the power goes out. And of course one will be for the dogs. Wish I had these last year when we were without power for a week after the hurricane. They blow the little desktop coolers I purchased last year out of the water (pun intended). One of the cool things about this is that you can angle the vent on the front , like your car air conditioning vent. It came in handy yesterday when I put it next to my rescue squirrel's enclosure on the patio. There's a couple of inches of wood around the bottom of the enclosure so I was able to angle the vent up so the air wasn't obstructed by the wood. Don't hesitate to buy one. Just be sure you understand the difference between a personal cooler and an air conditioning unit, and you won't be disappointed. This is the perfect little unit to have handy if you lose power. Just be sure you have a USB power pack or lipstick charger to run it when the power goes out. And if you want to use it while you have power, it comes with the electric outlet plug, so you have 2 different ways to power it. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this Arctic Cool.

Re-Purpose this item
I was so frustrated with this product that I asked to return it for a refund. I was given a $20.00 refund and told to keep the item as it would cost too much to send it back to China. It sat on my shelf for quite a while. Recently, I was about to throw it out when I decided to I try it out one more time. I ended up with water leaking all over my counter. I took out the paper filter holder, tore out all the papers and poured out any remaining water. I put the plastic holder back in the machine and realized that even without any water and paper filters the machine could probably still be used as a fan and nightlight for a bedroom. I plugged it in and, sure enough, the cooling is almost identical to what it was with paper filters and water. If your machine is leaking, don't throw it our, get rid of the paper filter, don't put any water in the machine and you'll have a nice little fan and nightlight. Good for the environment too as you won't be adding more plastic to some landfill site. Just thought I should share...

Buen Producto
