SmartGames IQ Gears - Spinning Gear STEM Travel Puzzle Brain Teaser, 7+

Everything is phenomenal. These have been keeping us busy on road trips! Just bought the 5th game from this company. So many levels, my 5 year old and myself are interested and like working through the levels.

I got this puzzle for my 6-year-old grandson’s birthday, At first we were disappointed because it didn’t seem to work. The description on the website said that when you solve the puzzle, ALL the gears will turn. That is not correct. Only the two large gears have to turn simultaneously, which means that you have connected them. Once we read the directions carefully, we began to enjoy the puzzle to the point that it became addictive. The easier puzzles are easy enough for a child, while the harder puzzles are challenging enough for adults who are good at visual-spatial activities. My daughter said that the next morning, she went downstairs and found my grandson working on the puzzles. He had done several on his own. My daughter said she has done about 80 of the puzzles. I only got through the first 15 before we had to come home, but I found them so addictive that I’m thinking of getting one for myself. This is a great activity which can be enjoyed on many levels. I especially like that it does not involve electronics.

Bought this game as a gift for someone, played it that day, loved it so much I ordered myself one. Various levels of challenge, portable.

This company makes great games. Fun and challenging, well-made, aesthetically pleasing. The extra detail of needing to connect and move the gears across the board makes this version of this type of puzzle/game especially fun.

We look forward to every doing because that means new smart game releases. We have over twenty now. You can't find better one player puzzle games with sturdy pieces. I had to have this one because the gears is such an awesome concept! However, for most of the problems, not all the gears spin. The goal is to get the cog on each of the sides of the container to spin. But because not all of the internal cogs spin for each correctly solved puzzle, it can make it difficult to decide if you solved it correctly or not. We very quickly found an error on puzzles number 4 and 5. They are EXACTLY the same. A minor copy and paste issue, but now I'm worried we may see that again in the later numbers. This is super cute, as all smart games are, but if you are choosing between this and one of the other new ones then maybe skip this one for now. I hope the instruction pamphlets are updated soon!

I like how this game gives you prompts depending on how much difficulty you would like. It also has its own box to it would be easy to pack into a bag and doesn’t take up much space. If you have ever played the Gears game in the App Store, it’s very similar to that just without the screen. I always enjoyed the game and this is pretty fun too.
