It will cut, but there is never any excuse for delivering a new knife with a mediocre edge. It should shave. That being said, its a handy little thing. The size is appropriate for just about anyone and any carry situation. It's a little goofy if you have to put any force behind it, but that's just because it's so skinny/thin. There is always a compromise somewhere, so this isn't really a con, just a side effect of it being small and compact. I was able to sharpen it to a razor edge by hand within just a few minutes.
