Lead vs lead free has nothing to do with them being an RPZ (vents water) or a double check (doesn't vent water). In Chicago area the test and certification cost around $100 to $140 which is good for a 6 months to year. **Q: Is this lead free? Code in all states requires it..** A: No this is not Lead Free. Only a few states require Lead Free for all devices including potable and non-potable installations. Some of those states are CA and MD. All states require Lead Free in potable drinking water installations but almost all states (except the 2 listed plus any other you may find doing your own research) still find it perfectly acceptable to use standard devises in non potable systems like fire lines and irrigation.
