The Main Meridians (Encyclopedia of Dim Mak): The Main Meridians

Perfect!!
This book is the perfect encyclopedia for dim mak. It shows each point very clearly. How to find it and how best to strike it. I like the fact that it also includes an explanation of how to heal damage from each point and also a basic explanation of how each point may be used to heal health conditions. All without much padding or useless information.

Necessary Book of DIM MAK
This is one of the two DIM MAK books required. (See my other reviews). If you're looking for a book with a detailed history and detailed information about dim-mak, this isn't your book. However,if you're looking for a book with some history and information, as well as an to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as well as learning about the various points and what happens when you hit them in the right manner, this book is for you. As it says, this covers the main 12 meridians, with volume 2 covering the remaining material. It is fascinating how the points can be used for both damaging and healing purposes, all of which is covered (yes, even death points). This is a dangerous art which is not to be used lightly. Highly recommended reading if you're interested even the slightest in martial arts or TCM. This book is extremely useful. The details about the meridians are fantastic. There are a lots of photographs in vivid detail. Each and every meridian is explained with set-up and antidote points. Healing details is what makes this book stand out. The location of points is described with a lot of medical terminology that a non-medical reader will struggle to actually locate the point. But the pictures are helpful.

Big book
Having obtained a copy of this book and the extra meridians book by the same author, i have been given a deeper understanding of what the techniques i practice, do, and what to do afterwords. An in depth study of vital points and a unique text, ideal for people willing to put in the time to gain a proficient enough understanding of the theory behind vital points to put them to use. An eye opener and a must have for practitioners who feel they have hit a peak and want to go further into their choice of art.

Simply the best book on the subject
This book is not for the average martial artist or even average instructor. This book is for people who have studied dim mak/ kyusho for a number of years and wish to have a complete martial/medical acupoint text. This book will not make a white belt a black belt but it will make a 3rd dan into a potential master of their art, if and only if that 3rd dan has the mental abilities to not just read this text but other medical acupuncture texts. This book does not go deeply into traditional Chinese medical practices and you wont find lots of kill techniques to impress your friends. For the average martial artist don't bother but for people who want to be more than the average buy it. If the martial arts instructors of the world bought this book and used it to truely aid their study it would change the community for the better for ever. It is possibly one of the most important martial arts texts ever put into print.

Utterly Useless
A deep and involving book this might be, but it is also extremely heavily steeped in oriental medicinal theory and anatomy. The essence of Dim-Mak is not in how to disrupt one's liver's function by pushing hard into a 1cm circle located somewhere in between the left hand's fingers! There is a hoard of knowledge for the accupressurist and accupuncturist, but for the practicing martial artist, this book is hopeless. Extremely few of the moves are practical enough to perform, and even fewer are worth practicing. Surely a warrior will not sit to dwell on questions of whether the pressure point he seeks is 3 or 3.5 inches to the left of the solar plexus during a physical battle! The consequences of trying to use these hopelessly hard to find points are indeed dire. The illustrations are tacky, involving a gentleman (probably the author) in shorts and loose long grey hair and an aggressor in unifrom. The layout of the book is not by effect, by location or alphabetic order; In fact it's by nerve lines, and as such is incredibly confusing for the reader. Add that to the obvious stupidity of statements that essentially mean: "The nerve ending just behind the prostate is a very powerful pressure point; Thus, a strong kick to the groin area will have a devastating effect on the adversary, causing him to fall due to the nerve's association with the balance center of the brain."... Realy?...

very informative
i like this book a lot the onley thing i dont like is that the meridien points for each chaptor are at the end of each chaptor it would be better if while telling you the points you could see them on the same page instead of at the end of the chaptor for each body part
