Basics of Emergency Medicine, 3rd Edition A Chief Complaint-Based Guide

Useful pocket guide
This is a handy guide for an AI when used in conjunction with another book like EM Fundamentals. It’s basically a top-level outline of chief differentials, which sometimes you can lose sight of as a medical student while you’re busy chasing “zebras”. It doesn’t look good when you’re asked what the differentials are and you forget the basic ones, which is why you need this book. I personally liked having 3 levels of books in my pocket— this one which will prevent you from forgetting the obvious differentials that you definitely should know, EM Fundamentals, which is a good mid-level book that doesn’t cover everything but is detailed enough (and accessible enough) for a med student to understand without rereading the relevant page 5 times, and a third more in-the-weeds reference does the stuff not covered elsewhere. Yes this makes for heavy pockets, but it did get me the H.

Excellent buy
Definitely an awesome book. Very concise and precise. Just what you need when you work at an Urgent Clinic or Emergency room. Only problem is that words are so tiny. Otherwise excellent purchase.

thorough but pocket sized
good quick Info but pocket sized; i was expecting a smaller sized textbook and this is more like a pamphlet. guess i didn't read into it enough

Excellent resource - helps calm a nervous mind!
I was nervous about working in the ER. This book helped enormously. It provides some great information in a quick way and a very helpful, user-friendly format. It also helps you think logically and concisely. I'd highly recommend this for anyone who works in the ER, and I feel that the content can actually assist in multiple disciplines. It at the very least helps keep your brain sharp, even if you simply peruse the pages at your own leisure.

Helpful during rotations
I used this book during my EMed rotation. It fits in scrub pockets. It has a quick differential for the common emergency room chief complaints. I definitely recommend.

Good book just wish it was bigger
I wish it was a bigger size then a pocket size. Good info for sure but for the price it seems overpriced to me.

Must have pocket tool for assessing acutely ill patients.
This is an excellent and simple pocket tool and must have for assessing acutely ill patients. It's great for student NP/PA/MD and seasoned veterans as well.
