pitaka for iPhone 16 Pro Max Case 6.9", Military-Grade Aramid, Black/Grey

I have been purchasing Pitaka products for my personal use and gifting them since my iPhone 6 back in 2014. That gives me a decade of experience, and puts me in a unique place to review not only the quality of the products, but also the customer service and evolution of the brand. I have purchased many items during that timeframe, including a charger and case still in use for an iPhone X I use for work. About a month ago, I upgraded my personal phone from a 14 Pro Max to the 16 Pro Max. So of course I needed to get a new Pitaka case. Having enjoyed the military grade protection on the 14, I opted for it again for my new iPhone. Right out of the box I was pleased. There were numerous product enhancements made over the previous version that I immediately noticed. Subtle, yet important differences like how the edges around the bezel surrounding the screen were rounded over now. In the previous version, even after two years of use, those edges remained somewhat sharp to the touch and uncomfortable to hold against your ear for a prolonged period of time. Now it is extremely smooth and comfortable against the face. The quality of the blend of materials from the aramid fiber on the backside to the material that hold the phone in place is more refined. The buttons themselves are a much higher quality and are metal now. They feel substantially better, and so much easier to use than the older model’s rubber buttons. You really had to press hard on the old ones. These just work as they should. The camera bump is also more refined and symmetrical, giving the back a cleaner look, while maintaining superior protection to the camera lenses. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. A solid 4 3/4 stars if that were a thing. Just buy it already! There are barely two ‘cons’ worthy of mention in my opinion. One is a personal preference, and the second one we’ll need some time to see how it plays out. The first is how they went to printing the full name ‘Pitaka’ on the backside vs. the smaller company logo. It is done well, and isn’t ostentatious. My preference when it comes to branding leans more towards subtlety, so I’ll leave it at that. The other area of concern for me- and it is new to all of us, involves that new side button for the camera. When picking up the device, I tended to grab and squeeze the area exactly where this new button is positioned. So for about two weeks, I kept unintentionally engaging the camera. I am now consciously trying to pick it up at about the middle of the sides to avoid turning the camera on every time. That’s on me. But what does this have to do with a con regarding the case you ask? That is precisely my second point. With the military protection grade case, there is a piece of unreinforced rubber that goes along the top of the button, parallel to the screen. When I was picking the phone up in the previous manner, right over the button, I can feel that rubber piece stretch upward every time. It feels too flexible for a case of this strength and quality. My concern is that, in time, this could tear and expose a part of the topside of the case next to the screen. Not only would it be unsightly, it could leave about a one inch gap of the top edge unprotected. My initial thought was if they old mold a piece of wire or plastic in there to increase the rigidity that would solve the problem. For now, all is good, and in the event this worst-case scenario plays out, I am confident the world-class customer service team at Pitaka will make it right.

For starters I’ve been using Pitaka cases for over a year now on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I originally purchased the MagEZ Case 2 in a stunning blue carbon color which was amazingly thin, grippy, and even held up to several accidental drops onto concrete floors in my work place. I then upgraded to the MagEZ Pro 3 case which is the predecessor to the case I’m currently reviewing. That case was simply put, the best case I’ve used on any phone. It put my old OtterBox- which was impractically bulky- and OEM Apple Silicone/Leather- which lacked any presence of durability- cases to shame. It wasn’t much thicker than the MagEZ 2 yet offered so much more protection and durability. I would regularly alternate between the two using the thinner case for formal or casual events and changing over to the Pro case for my work days. With that history lesson out of the way I’ll comment on the MagEZ Pro 4. This case has many welcome upgrades over the Pro 3, for starters one being the new eco friendly packaging. Pitaka’s presentation has always been top notch, their older cases coming in a box with built in magnets that opened almost like a book. The switch to a biodegradable box is certainly an upgrade and just a cool extra thing that they didn’t have to include but like the prior magnetic boxes they went and put in the extra effort anyways. It’s partly made out of a chamfered rubber like material that provides a close yet comfortable fit around the screen of your phone and moving onto the back it’s predominantly made of Pitaka’s classic 1500D woven aramid fiber. You wouldn’t expect it to be grippy if you were comparing it to what you’d find on a sports car but this aramid fiber has a nice woven texture you can feel and is about as grippy as a silicone case. The MagSafe compatible magnets integrated into the back of the case are some of the strongest magnets I’ve seen in any case. I would compare them to the magnets Apple uses in their own cases. Every night I dock my phone on a MagSafe wireless charging stand and the magnets lock on every time and feel very secure. A new addition are the metal volume/power buttons. I’ve had no issues with the older rubber buttons but these new metal buttons just provide a more premium feel. The felt lined interior is nice in the way that it prevents the back glass of your phone from being scratched and I’d imagine it adds just a tiny bit more cushion should you drop it. To conclude, feeling the case hand I’m more than satisfied with my purchase and would gladly choose Pitaka cases for all of my future phone purchases.

The case fits perfectly snug without being hard to put on, and it keeps the phone slim and elegant. The aramid material feels high-quality, doesn’t slip, and doesn’t show fingerprints. It also offers excellent protection without adding unnecessary weight. I really wanted to keep this case because the feel is honestly top tier. It’s thin, light, and feels great in hand. No complaints there at all. The problem is the oil and fingerprint buildup. It shows everything, and it doesn’t wipe off easily. I’m not talking about a quick shirt wipe either. I had to actually use cleaner and a cloth to get it looking normal again. When you’re spending this kind of money on a case, you expect it to stay looking good without that much effort. Mine constantly looked like I had just been eating pizza and grabbed my phone. If that doesn’t bother you, it’s a great case. For me, it was enough to return it.

I received my Pitaka Aramid UltraGuard Sunset case for my iPhone 17 Pro today. Wow, I am really impressed with the quality. This case is exceptionally well made, and I love the Sunset weave pattern. It fits my phone perfectly at the top, sides, and bottom. Another reviewer was saying the quality wasn't there and the fit wasn't perfect, which is completely opposite of the case I received. Mine couldn't be better. Yes, it costs more than many other cases, but for me it is worth it if the case lasts the next four or 5 years. The build quality is outstanding, and the feel in the hand is excellent. The finish is smooth, yet it does not feel slippery. I have no concern about losing my grip on the phone. I prefer minimal, non bulky cases and avoid anything thick or heavy. This one is exactly what I was looking for. It offers solid protection while staying slim, feels great to hold, fits the phone flawlessly, and looks absolutely stunning. I also bought the matching Sunset MagSafe wallet which is great if I'm running to town for something or going out at night with my wife where I don't need more than two cards.

This is my third time purchasing a Pitaka Pro case (I’ve purchased them for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max). Their pro cases are top tier when aiming for a sleek/minimalist look combined with a high level of protection. I think this case is even step up from the older models in terms of ergonomics and how it feels in the hands as it has softer/rounded edges. This case is slim/lightweight and in my opinion, protrudes as much as it needs to where it needs to (just above the screen and cameras). I don’t use a screen protector and haven’t had issues damaging my phone with this type of fitment. My phones have taken a few tumbles over the years and the pro cases have always held up which is why I keep using them. I will say this case is a little slick in the hands out of the box, but has gotten more grippy after a week of use. I would absolutely recommend this case to anyone considering. Update: After using the case a bit more, I wish they found a way to conceal the action/camera button within the case while allowing the touch function to be utilized. The button isn’t the easiest to hit given that is inset from the outer edge (also will help with dirt/dust protection). Outside of that, the case has been great! Already handled a few drops like a champ. Hoping for a V2 pro case with a concealed action/camera button.

The precision in which the case has been developed, is exact, allowing access to all areas of the phone. The case provides complete Protection when placing the camera face down and during drops.. The camera lenses are protected with a raised metal lip, which allows the phone to be placed safely down screen up. I have installed an x5 stronger invisible shield glass elite screen protector, which causes no issue with the raised front bezel. Napa leather lines the inside of the case protecting the phone from scratches. Metal buttons covers, which are lined, provide precision touch response. All cut outs including the speaker grills are lined up perfectly, as is the USB cut out, allowing accessories to be placed on this unit with ample room for USB connectors. They have shaved the top of the case, ever so slightly allowing that speaker to be unobstructed. The new camera button cut out is precise. It could be slightly more rigged on the screen bezel, but causes no issue using the button and is actually more comfortable with the softness of the TPU. I have purchased the Pitaka ultraslim case as well, however, I have used it only a few times due to the small form factor of the military grade case, as I switch them out quite regularly. This is somewhat unusual, but pleasantly surprising. The texture provides a smooth yet nonslip surface and is extremely comfortable to hold. The magnets are even stronger than previous generations and that together with the slim board technology allows the phone to charge just as if it didn’t have a case. MagSafe accessories attached to the back of the caseeven better than before. I test all cases with a small table drop prior to daily carry. It maintain its integrity and stayed on the phone perfectly whichpassed as expected with no issues. The case is aesthetically pleasing and extremely slim. I am extremely satisfied with this case and recommend it highly..
