## Description

From the manufacturer Why be proactive with water treatments? A natural pond has a constant supply of fresh water flowing into it, such as from a stream or spring. Water also flows out of a natural pond, taking fish waste and other toxins with it. This isn’t true for most garden ponds as they are closed systems. Garden ponds also tend to be much smaller than natural ponds, so they do not offer the amount of water per fish that you find in nature. For these reasons, water treatments are necessary to keep water conditions safe for both fish and plant life and for clearer water. Following specific steps each season allows you to create a backyard retreat you’ll enjoy all year long! For more information about what’s needed each season, check out more below. Spring Start Up - Get Your Pond Ready! Its pond startup time! Whether filling a new pond or re-establishing an existing pond, following some simple steps at startup will yield benefits you’ll enjoy all season long. The 3 key steps that must be taken are making your tap water safe, activating the natural pond cycle, and maintaining sparkling clean water to boost fish and plant health. Once the water temperature reaches above 10⁰C, you’ll also want to start feeding your fish again. It is important to take care of all of your plants in the spring with API AQUATIC PLANT MEDIA and API AQUATIC PLANT FOOD TABLETS as they will be the key to success in most ponds! Lastly, monitor the water conditions in your pond with the API POND MASTER TEST KIT, an easy and accurate way to test 4 key water parameters including pH, ammonia, nitrite, and phosphat Summer - Provide Regular Care And Enjoy Your Pond Summer is the time to sit back and enjoy all of your hard work! You’ll need to continue regular care for your pond that includes adding beneficial bacteria like API POND-ZYME and API POND ECOFIX. While everything looks great, you’ll want to closely monitor the water conditions so that you can protect the health of your pond including plants and fish. Algae grows in the presence of sunlight where there is excess nutrients in the pond water for the algae to feed on. API POND ALGAE CURE has been used for over 18 years to effectively control green water algae, string algae, and blanketweed without harming fish or plants. At this time it could be beneficial to do a partial water change, adding API POND STRESS COAT and API POND SALT and fertilizing your pond plants Autumn - Prepare For Winter Performing a few simple steps in the autumn will prepare your fish and plants for the long, cold winter ahead and lay the foundation for a healthy start in the spring. We recommend removing excess organic matter to reduce fish stress during the winter months. Use a net to remove as many leaves as possible. Routine addition of API POND ECOFIX or API POND-ZYME throughout the season promotes healthy water quality and reduces the amount of organic matter you need to remove at the end of the season. It is also important to perform a 25% water change, adding API POND STRESS COAT and API POND SALT to make the tap water safe and to replenish important electrolytes which aid fish during the stressful winter months. Winter – Keep Pond Water Circulating In cooler climates, when the water temperature drops, fish will naturally eat less than at warmer temperatures. Once the water temperature drops below 5⁰C, fish will stop eating and if they have been fed properly through the summer and autumn, they will have ample reserves to survive the rigours of winter. It is also important to ensure your pond has circulation to keep an open area on the ponds surface throughout the winter months to prevent the buildup of toxic gases which can accumulate from the decomposition of organic matter. Making A Better Underwater World At API, we understand the rewards and relaxation of fishkeeping because we have a passion for fish too. For over 50 years API has developed premium solutions with proven and effective results for your family and ours. API offers a range of testing kits, water conditioners, and nutritionally superior food, because we’re dedicated to making a better underwater world.

Review: From lifeless to spring chicken - read my review and view images - Our fish was showing signs of septicaemia with blood spots, scales peeling away, very lethargic, not eating and fins that looked damaged beyond repair, so after a full tank change with 24 hour settled water, all plants removed to prevent further damage from brushing past, I followed a set routine of daily treatment using this treatment, within 2 days she became more active, and obvious signs of repair were visible, blood spots were disappearing and her fins were slowly starting to move more freely. It’s been 10 days and apart from the damaged scales on her side that are still healing, she’s back to herself, swimming, begging for food every time she sees anyone, safe to say my son is super happy that he’s not got to say goodbye to pepper just yet. Can’t recommend this product enough, well worth the money, the size was plenty for what I needed, but I’ll just continue to use it bi daily for the next few weeks to ensure that it is fully treated and doesn’t come back. And because she’s eating again equivalent to a St Bernard ( if we let her ) there’s less debris in the tank so the tank has stayed clearer. Also I’ve just noted that pre treatment her back was arched and looked so poorly, today she’s back straight, able to buoyant herself easily. I have attached pictures from day 1 to day 10 to show the difference. Absolutely superb result.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: hi will this help whit spot for koi? also will this knock back the good bacteria in pond?**
A: No it won’t help white spot, I use WS3, melafix is a natural treatment, tea tree oil & doesn’t affect anything, good luck

**Q: Will this treat flukes and fungus at the same time in a koi pond.**
A: I don,t know about flukes, it,s meant for bacterial infections. Hope that helps.

**Q: How much should I put in my 3000 litre pond?**
A: Well I have a 180 litres tank and I put 25 in am not sure sorry

**Q: How does pond version differ from aquarium version please.. wanting to buy bigger bottle for regular use in my aquarium**
A: Not sure as I do not have an aquarium. The pond version suggests 15 ml per 567 litres to be given daily for 7 days when fighting infection. 15 ml is about 1 tablespoon.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Definitely helped my poorly fish .
*by K***E on 18 September 2025*

Bought this in hopes it would help my young Koi that just hasn’t been well since it was gifted to me 3 months ago . I had no idea what was wrong & we have no aquatic vet close by so after googling symptoms in great detail & doing some research it kept coming back as bacterial infection. I’ve had my other fish 20+ years & never had to use any chemicals in my pond or treat any of my fish .. Decided to give melafix a go & im really glad I did . I isolated him in a tank & im currently on day 6 of the treatment . He’d been bottom sitting in my pond for weeks , he’d never come up for food at feeding time & he spent 24 hours a day hiding behind my pond plants . As you can see in the video I took yesterday he’s now swimming around perfectly normal & happy , Ive been using koi flakes to feed him whilst he’s in the tank (usually use MediKoi) & it’s the first time I’ve seen him eat since he fell ill . The melafix also cleared up a red bloodshot patch he’d got underneath his body within the first dose of treatment . He’s not stopped swimming around & playing with the bubbles from the air stones 😂 I’ll be gutted when I have to put him back in the pond . I’d definitely recommend this stuff . I thought I was gonna lose my fish he was so lethargic & unwell but it took just 3 days of this stuff & I saw positive signs . Just to add , it did make the water go incredibly cloudy and my koi did start rubbing a bit against the airstones which can be a side effect to using melafix . I did a 25% water change and added 2 tablespoons spoons of pond salt , this helped with any irritation / stress .
