Works Like A Dream. A Somewhat Noisy Dream.
I needed a bigger HDD for the huge influx of 4K footage I'm working with. Got it in a cardboard box and a non-static/spill-proof metallic sleeve. Two plastic shock absorbers were located at the top and bottom of the drive. Date of manufacture was dated 20 FEB 2022. Looks like they're pushing in the new stuff now. Installation was easy, just crack open the PC case and slip it into the rack. I knew about the noisy reputation that WD Black Drive's had, so I ordered a couple of noise-isolating screws and rubber washer to help mitigate the impending cacophony. After slamming everything together, I shoved it all into the PC. Storage size and transfer rate is top-notch, I can both watch and edit 4K movies with no trouble at all. The only problem (which is honestly a non-issue for me, but maybe not for you) is the noise it makes. Every so often, maybe every 5-10 seconds the disk head moves and you can hear a slight "thunk". You get used to it after a while, and this IS a performance drive, so noise like that is to be expected. Might be a bit jarring to people who weren't around when your computer sounding like an old muscle car starting up was standard. When going through heavy loads, the HDD spins to a high speed, but thanks to those noise-isolating screws and washers, I barely hear it. And since I'm only using this drive for editing, when I'm not editing Windows automatically turns off the drive so the "thunking" isn't around unless the drive is on and in use. No "scratching" or similar noises have been heard from the drive yet, and I've been using it heavily since Day-1. Only Whirling of the disks and the every present "thunk". This will give you good storage and speed with the only trade-off being noise. Keep that in mind as you eye that "Add To Cart" button.

Fast spinning hard drive
My last 2TB "big" capacity green series HD from Western Digital was very slow compared to this 4TB disk, but lasted for 8 years and is still in good condition. But I am retiring the 2TB drive from continuous use. This Black series drive is fast for storing back-up data and files and usable for non-critical libraries where I could wait extra seconds loading the files. As for reliability, which is my main concern it is too soon to tell. It is not the most silent drive but also not annoying and it is what it is, a fast mechanical drive. I did not want to spend much more on a 4TB SSD as I still think large backups for very long periods may be safer on mechanical drives. SSD drives have died on me and there is nothing to do to recover the data. As a precaution today I have more than ten drives!

Good size and works well.
Thus far (2+ years) this drive has functioned perfectly wonderfully for storage in my computer build. Read speeds seem good, but I'm also not using using this for anything that requires faster speeds, as I have a 2TB SSD for those. This is mainly for files, but I do run a couple of programs off of this drive.

ALWAYS but WD drives and NOT Seagate
WD drives do not exhibit the HD having to go to the "zero stop"/HOME on the drive due to losing track of cylinder position. That is what the frequent "Knocking" sound is even when the drive is Idle. The drive will work BUT is defective. Seagates lose the cylinder position and have to go out to the "zero stop" position then count back in to where they were supposed to be. I have observed this problem since the 1990's and just had it with a 16TB drive I sent back. I should have known better!

Fast, large and loud.
It's a Western Digital drive so its quality, however, the mass that has to spin up/number of read arms required makes this thing VERY loud. I have the drive installed on rubber dampers in a drive cage that is also on its own dampers and the drive sled is permanently attached to the cage for minimal vibration. Even with all that I can still feel the drive being accessed through the desk. It feels identical to my phone vibrating. Other than that this thing is awesome. I'm just going to spend the coin on an SSD next time.

I only purchase WD Black Hard Drives (for 12+ years) and have never had a problem or failure yet.
I oversee technology for an entire school and have done so for over a decade. For my professional and personal usage I only purchase the WD Black Hard Drives and I have literally never had a problem or failure with any of them during that entire 12 year period. So, that's all I continue to buy. I used to purchase another brand name drive but we had problems with them. There's nothing worse than having a hard drive crap out taking all the data with it. Granted we usually have back ups but there's always the gnawing feeling that something gets lost when restoring from backup no matter how frequent the backups. Plus there's the stress, frustration, and lost productivity while the unit is offline. Yes, these drives are more expensive than many other hard drives. However, when you factor in the dramatically improved reliability and longevity, it has been my experience that they are more than worth the extra money. To be sure, there's no doubt that there may be an occasional bad unit or one that just fails, but, so far, in my experience we have never encountered one. Plus, they have a 5 year warranty and a high MTBF rating both of which, of course, are very reassuring. Side note: if you're not backing up your data to some sort of disconnected storage device and you lose data that's not the fault of the drive or the malware that took out your data. In my experience, there are two kinds of people in the world: those who have lost data and those who will lose data.

WD 4 TB internal SATA drive
I bought this drive to replace the internal drive on my old computer system. It performs so well that I transplanted it into a much newer system. The WD Black series hard drives are very fast and reliable. Would definitely buy again.

Ok, so I thought this would be a good drive for basic media storage, but.....
Ok, so I thought this would be a good drive for basic media storage, but after installing it, my god. It was extremely difficult to get this drive recognized and actually viable by the OS. Took some time, but I finally got it be "officially recognized and allocated". Have built plenty of PCs in my time and lots of hardware. Never have I experienced the annoyance with overall installation before until this drive. One major negative thing that I noticed, after allocation, was that it took away like 500gb, so realistically this drive was 3.45TB, not 4TB. Quite a significant amount removed from the drive. I never experienced any crazy loud noise when reading or writing. Temp was alright as well. The speed was alright. Later I looked into that this drive is a lottery of quality, from freezing, crashing, not reading/writing, loud noises, slow speeds, etc. Sucks because I bought this on prime day for quite a steal and was hoping it would work out, but it just was not for me. Returned it, waiting for my money back. Going with more SSDs to add to my storage, already have an M.2 NVMe and SSD sata, might as well keep it within that type. With all other reviews and personal experience, I would wait until they get this one right.

Great drive, value for money
Bought this drive as a replacement for another drive. Using this for photo and video editing. Therefore need speed and reliability as well as capacity. This drive brings all of the above. Performs very well so far. As always tested with the WD tools. Depending on the source I get around 280 MB/s.

Excelente disco duro.
