Fast Shipping and Great Machine.
Just received today ordered Yesterday! Box was undamaged, it was packed perfectly no damage and I unpacked far enough to plug it in and the machine powered up and ran!! More details when I get it out and mounted but gee whiz it looks good! As you can see by the pictures the Compound swivel adjustment is those two screw under the slide, just crank it back and its there. The tail stock adjustment is spot on both directions. I used an inexpensive Indexable carbide tool set from Amazon and it gave a wonderful finish as you can see. BTW a 3/8 inch 10 mm tool set was right on for the tool post mounted. Not the 1/2 inch 12 mm as some have suggested. Zero complaints I have owned many lathes in the past ranging from a South Bend Heavy 10 to a EMCO Super 11, all have required some learning and adjustments.

Vevor Must Stand for Electronics Junk in Chinese
I received the lathe from shipping in good condition. The problem started with the electronics, the lathe initially ran for 20 mins. or so and stopped running. The motor worked and a friend recommended a new control board. I also replaced the poetntiometer (speed controller) before contacting Vevor. It took approximately 6 weeks (2 weeks of communication with Vevor) and 4 weeks to receive the new control board. I installed the new control board and it still would not run. I did know in advance they had electronic issues and i had an option to purchase all new electronics and a motor from Custom Crafters at an additional cost. Now the lathe works great. I recommend checking the complaints on the Better Business Bureau website before purchasing this item if you don't want to have to spend additional money to make it run.

Half Nut dial is trash, everything else is GREAT
Works great. The increments on all the installed dials are very accurate. Able to get parts within 0.001 in no problem. Can't cut screws, the half nut dial will bite the lead screw and damage it.

A Cut Above Vevor Lathe
This particular lathe is different from the other low end lathes in that it has four speed ranges that effectively increase the torque of the small drive motor. The banjo is also different in that the forward, reverse, and neutral positions are positive, pinned detents (see attached photo). Other nice additions are a thread dial and felt wipers on the main bed. The chuck is a Sanou K11-100 and operates smoothly. Generally the fit and finish was better than expected however disassembly and a good cleaning are required as it comes slathered in shipping grease. Mine was rust free and had little or no mill swarf present. All the gibs must be adjusted as the lathe is not ready to run out of the box. Generally the machining is good enough to get accurate results without lapping in the ways. Vevor ships to the east coast from their Atlanta warehouse so delivery time was short.

Save Your Money or Buy the Cheapest Version Possible
Save Your Money or Buy the Cheapest Version Possible—This Is a Deceptive "Kit Tool" If you are considering this VEVOR mini lathe under the impression that you are buying a ready-to-use, precision machine tool out of the box, turn around now. Like most sub-$1,000 mini lathes, what actually arrives on your doorstep is a box of roughly machined, unrefined cast-iron parts—a "kit tool" that requires hours of teardown, cleaning, and tuning just to perform basic tasks. Here is the breakdown of why this lathe is a massive disappointment: Deceptive Advertising (Bait-and-Switch): The official product listings show a clean, laser-etched degree scale on the compound slide base so you can visually dial in tapers. On the actual unit delivered, the degree scale is completely omitted. You are left with a blank, un-etched casting, forcing you to break out external protractors or dial indicators just to set a simple chamfer. Tight, Jerky Slide Movement: Straight out of the crate, the top slide travel is stiff, uneven, and grabby. The dovetails are packed with factory machining grit and sticky storage grease, relying on cheap sheet-metal gib strips pressed by uneven set screws rather than proper ground tapered gibs. Zero Axis Locks: The manufacturer saved pennies by omitting dedicated mechanical locking levers for the carriage, cross-slide, and top slide. The only way to stop an axis from drifting under cutting load is to crank down on the gib adjustment screws until the slide physically jams. Underpowered & Lack of Mass: At roughly 80 to 90 lbs, there simply isn't enough cast iron to absorb tool chatter. Even with carbide tooling, attempting anything beyond paper-thin depth-of-cut passes results in heavy flex and tool chatter in steel. The Bottom Line for Buyers The biggest lesson with these 7x mini lathes is that spending more money within the sub-$1,000 class does NOT buy you better quality or actual precision. Nearly all of these benchtop units come from the exact same overseas factory network. Paying $800 to $1,100 for a "brand name" version gets you the same lightweight, flex-prone casting as a $500 unit—just with a different coat of paint. If you absolutely must have a small benchtop lathe for light hobby work, buy the absolute cheapest sub-$500 entry-level version you can find and accept that you will have to spend days deburring ways, lapping dovetails, and tuning gibs to get it functional. But if you expect real precision, ground dovetails, actual axis locks, and chatter-free cuts, do not waste your capital here—save up for a true 300+ lb class machine from a reputable machinery supplier. The only reason I'm not giving it 1 Star is that it arrived intact and actually worked when plugged in, despite the poor quality and deficiencies.

lathe value
I am new to lathe work but read several books so far. I bought a dial indicator long with the Lathe. I wanted to see what the repeatable would be so I cut a rod down then ran a dimension on it; put another rod in and cut it down and measure it and was able to get i/1000 on it. I think the lathe is awesome and would recommend it to anyone wanting a good lathe.
