I've had noisy grinders. One famous make is loud enough that I routinely left the room while it ran. This OXO grinder is not noisy by any stretch, running at a low growl even without being placed on a towel to buffer the vibration. As to mess and complexity, operation is simple and foolproof. Put beans in the top. Press the button. When it stops grinding, twist the top to remove the grinder assembly and, lo, there rests the ground coffee with (hopefully) all the aroma you put into roasting. I'll admit to adopting some degree of preparation. It requires a cereal bowl, a spoon and a coffee filter. When the grind is complete, twist and remove the grinder (top portion) assembly and place it with burr down on the open coffee filter. Tilt and pour the grounds into the cereal bowl. Reassemble the grinder. Place the filter in the coffee machine and measure the coffee into the filter with the spoon. Any extra coffee is placed in a waiting grounds jar. Yes, it's mind-boggling in its complexity. Often one or two specks escape and hide on the counter top. My wife offered to assist if I'm unable to deal with it. Usually while rinsing the bowl and spoon. I know, extra work. I've had less static buildup and messy operation with OXO than with more famous grinders that take up twice the counter space, howl like a banshee and explode their grounds across the kitchen. In contrast, this is solid, relatively quiet, and radiates durability in the look and feel. I'm very pleased with it.

Before buying this I read the reviews complaining about noise, mess and complexity. It was with some trepidation, then, that I placed the order. I've had noisy grinders. One famous make is loud enough that I routinely left the room while it ran. This OXO grinder is not noisy by any stretch, running at a low growl even without being placed on a towel to buffer the vibration. As to mess and complexity, operation is simple and foolproof. Put beans in the top. Press the button. When it stops grinding, twist the top to remove the grinder assembly and, lo, there rests the ground coffee with (hopefully) all the aroma you put into roasting. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Consistent Grind Made a Noticeable Difference. Worth the Upgrade From Blade Grinding

Switched over from a cheap blade grinder after our pour over kept coming out inconsistent, some sips watery and some over extracted depending on which chunks of bean happened to get pulverized versus barely chopped. Wanted actual conical burrs instead of blades chopping randomly. Grind consistency has been the biggest improvement, coffee tastes noticeably more even cup to cup now, no more guessing why one morning's brew tasted off compared to the day before. Range of grind settings covers everything from a coarse french press to fine enough for pour over, haven't found a setting yet that felt like it was missing for what we brew at home. 12 oz capacity holds plenty for our household's weekly bean supply without needing to refill mid grind, and the hopper is easy to see through to check how much is left. Grinding itself is relatively quiet compared to what I braced for based on some reviews of similar grinders, doesn't wake anyone up grinding early before work. Cleanup is straightforward too, removable burr assembly and everything wipes out easy without oily bean residue building up somewhere hard to reach. For the price, this got us proper burr grinding without paying for some of the pricier standalone grinder brands that do the same basic job, real value for a home setup that just wants consistent coffee. Only complaint is it's a little louder then expected right when it starts up before settling into a steadier grind sound. Great upgrade from blade grinding, would buy again.
