Note to anyone buying: READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEM BEFORE PURCHASE! I was very worried when i bought this as i saw other reviews with photos of damaged devices being delivered, no doubt they did not read the details of their purchase before buying. if its priced cheap then thats why. mine was £209.99 and came like new almost, just without the box. My 3DS arrived in perfect condition. The description even said there was minor marks on the screens but I'm yet to find them at all thankfully :) The device works perfect. All in All im very happy with this purchase. Thank you

I bought one of these consoles as the last Nintendo product I bought was a Game Cube over 10 years ago!! I have ofcourse played on several DS consoles and the Wii, but never owned one. I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with this device. I bought the XL version as the reviews I had previously seen show that the bigger screen is better for 3D performance, and it has an improved battery life. Speaking purely for the XL I can say that both are very impressive. The 3D screen does have to be held in a certain way for it to work perfectly but once you have the sweer spot its good! Games I have so far played on the console are Super Mario Bros 2, Luigi's Mansion 2, F1 2011 and Mario Kart 7, I have also downloaded some GameBoy games including, Super Mario Land 1 and 2 and Tetris. All games play really well. Luigi's Mansion seems to use more of the 3DS' features, including the shoulder buttons, 3D and even the use of moving the 3DS around to look in places. There are loads of other apps and pre-installed games to familiarize your self with what the 3DS can do. Augmented Reality games are especially fun, however beware... the browser is not very good, it will display basic pages but will not do anything media intensive. All in all a great console! I've dipped in and out of the DS and 3DS over the years, jumping in too quickly in their life cycles when there weren't many noteworthy games around, but now is the perfect time to get into the 3DS as it's built up a decent game library. Quality games like Luigi's Mansion 2, Ocarina of Time, Mario 3D, Monster Hunter, and upcoming greats like Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem are compelling reasons to buy a unit now if you've been waiting for things to take off. The machine itself is a joy to use. Excellent build quality feels like it could withstand nuclear war (I hope it doesn't have to, mind) and the menus and interface are beautifully designed and simple to use. The screens are a very decent size, and the whole thing has a weighty, quality feel that's pleasing in the hands. The 3D effect's intensity can be adjusted with the slider on the right hand side of the upper screen. I find that a medium setting is perfect for me, since 100% makes my eyes feel a bit strained and I get a headache after a while. Everyone is different in this regard, and games are good enough that turning the 3D off completely doesn't mean you're missing out on some top entertainment. The famous 'glasses-less 3D' is a lovely feature though and very impressive. Objects appear to rise right off the screen or sink far back into it, as if the screen is a window into a box of objects; the depth of the box depends on that slider position. It's a powerful little machine too and capable of pulling off impressive visuals. Any doubters should play the Resident Evil Revelations demo. Don't doubt that there will be big, 3D, immersive games to play on this. A lot of games on the DS were throwaway 2D distractions, but it seems the 3DS is gathering a nice library of richer, deeper games - the kind you'd typically expect to find on the big consoles. I have a feeling the 3DS is going to be the perfect place for JRPG fans, too. Summary: a well made, quality product that will outlive you - there are some good 3DS games out there now, making this is a good time to get involved if you've been holding off - the red edition seems to be cheaper than other colours, making for an attractive proposition to those who are still unsure - a place for rich, 'proper' games and not just throwaway distractions

I'm a 14 year old girl who really likes playing on a ds - especially Professor Layton. I got my first ever DS lite when I was 8 or 9 for a birthday present and I loved it. It was bright red and it had it's own little imagine babies ds game with it. However, as time passed on it got old and the screens got scratched and dirty, the calibration went really badly off and I coudn't fix it. Around that time I went to my friend's house and we played Professor Layton and the Lost Future. I had never played any PL games before and I found it really fun solving all the puzzles and seeing ow the story went on etc. I ended up buying the other two games that were out at that time too and finished them both. My friend and I finished Lost Future on her Ds which was a dsi and I couldn't help noticing how much better her's was than mine. Hers could take pictures and morph them and it could record sound data and go on sims. All mine could do was play games and even then it didn't always load them properly. So I started begging my Mum for a new DSi close to my birthday and Christmas, and kept reminding her that a dsi would probably be reasonably cheap because the DSi XL and 3DS were already out and eventually she gave in and I got a new DSi for my christmas,4 or 5 years after my DS lite. I was contented with my DSi for quite some time, it was also red and I loves the newer, thinner stylus and the marginally bigger screen and all the new quirky features that came with it. I also liked how the volume control had turned into buttons rather than an irritating slider and that the power button was actually a button that you pressed rather than some weird switch thing like it was on the DS lite. I bought the fourth Professor Layton game and completed it and then waited eagerly for news of the fifth. I eventually found out about Miracle Mask and watched a trailer for it on YouTube. It looked great! But then I realized that it was only for 3DS and I was really upset. I'd just been given a brand new DS just so I could play my favourite Professor Layton games on it and now I wouldn't be able to! I had to settle down with the fact that I now wouldn't be able to get the fifth game for a while, and as I didn't particularly want a 3DS there was no point spending my own money on it. I had found in shops that the 3D wasn't fantastic quality and it gave me a headache after just 5 minutes of a demo! My other friend who played Lost Future wasn't going to get the fifth game either as she said she wasn't upgrading to 3DS either, she wanted a new tablet instead. It wasn't until a few days before Christmas this year that I even thought about the 3DS xl. I knew they'd made a new model but I didn't know much about it. I saw an advert on TV that described how you could download the new Professor Layton game in January for free if you got a 3DS xl and had it registered with the internet. This looked a fantastic offer to me so I looked up the 3DS xl and read many happy customer reviews about the feel of the model being great and the huge screen and how the 3D looked better and didn't make people feel as ill as the original. I begged and begged my parents and they ended up paying £100 and me £69 for it. We ordered it on the 27th December and it arrived earlier today on the 29th December - just 2 days later which is amazing since we used free super saver delivery which usually delivers items within 3-5 days. The item was well packed and arrived safely. I opened it up and was immediatley impressed with the smooth feel, and rounded corners and it's huge size. It looks so much more sleek and sophisticated next to my previous DSs', it's hard to imagine they're the same thing. It's definitely heavier and harder to hold but the screen is ginormous! My games already look so much better. I love all the little apps it comes with, like Argumented Reality and Face Raiders etc. I also like how easy it was to set up and connect to internet. I like the power button again and I also like the left and right buttons at the top, they feel much more like the DS lite ones and less like the DSi ones which felt as if they might break off! I like the little control pad thing on the left hand side. It's a nice touch. The 3D adjuster is very easy to use. I can swap from 2D to 3D in virtually no time at all. The cameras are good and it can even take video which is very, very impressive. My only downsides would be that the volume has gone back to that annoying slider which really is hard to control as it's easy to set the volume too high or low, whereas with the Dsi it was easy to prevent. Also, the microphone has moved to a really strange place by the start button. I have no idea why! I liked it where it was before as it was easy to get to and you could still see the game. Other than that there are no problems that I can see and it seems to be loading and playing games fine. Overall, it's a very good product and worth the money. I will need to get a case for it as I can see it's going to get easily scratched!!!!

Beware, purchasers...this doesn't come with an AC charger!! The 3DS XL has a custom built-in battery which can't be replaced, which means you NEED the AC adaptor to actually use the device for more than 5 hours total before the initial charge runs flat. The only problem is, Nintendo don't include an AC charger in the box. Suffice to say, an electronic product with a battery should come with a way for the customer to charge the battery. You can't replace the batteries, and you can't use a USB cable because the 3DS XL has a proprietary charge port which is incompatible with USB. Poor stuff from Nintendo, and Amazon for not clearly stating it doesn't come with the AC charger in the box.

Absolutely brilliant console easy to use this judging by the 5 minuites i got to use it for. HOWEVER THIS CONSOLE DOES NOT COME WITH A CHARGER. This is not clearly stated at all. This is why i have given this product an average rating. So if you do get this product you will NEED to also buy a charger.

Being a bit of a 'if it ain't broke' kind of guy, I've plodded along with my original DS since 2005. Now I decided to upgrade so I don't miss out on 3DS games, and I can say this console is just a fantastic upgrade in comparison to my old model. Having tried the normal 3DS too, the visuals are obviously not quite as crisp due to the 90% larger screens being the same resolution. To be honest however I thought the actual screen itself was fantastic regardless and looks great. Some original DS games look a bit strange to begin within but I got used to it quick. (Theres an option to use the native size if you so wish too). The 3D between the 2 consoles was part of the selling point for me. I much prefer the feel of the XL to the standard where 3D is concerned. it feels right. The console itself feels great in your hands too, helped by the extra size. I tend to use it inside so the size isn't an issue for portability. Stuff like the e shop is nice too. Better than the 3DS standard, but not worth upgrading for. Definetly worth it otherwise. A lot of fun. You'll need it for Pokemon X and Y too!

Why would I buy my daughter this 3DS with a large screen and not need a charger !!!, believe it or not, it comes only half charged and does not include a charger, therefore making the DS in my opinion incomplete and a rip off, why would they sell it without a charger, as you cant play it without being charged, its not exactly cheap be warned, it was not mentioned when I purchased this item that half of it would be missing. I am not happy at all.neither is my daughter, not a nice present for her.
