Can I use and 80w welder iron to melt this?

If its one of our older welders, yes it will be fine. If its a conventional soldering iron, possibly. The problem you'll have is with the tip size. If its not large enough you will not be able to move the melted material around like you'll need to and the tip temperature will be much hotter and you may have problems with it burning the material. I would recommend using either one of the old urethane supply welders with the flat round tip, which were 80 watts, or spring for the 5210 FiberFlex repair kit, which comes with the 200 Watt element and flat teardrop welding tip.
