Pretty Good, but Not Great. Regular Purchase - Not a Sample/Discount.
I spent way too much time searching for a laser distance measure. I got very frustrated trying to wade through all the 5 star reviews from people who were given a free sample or a discount coupon or some type of incentive (don't call it a bribe!) in return for an "honest" review. Look at the reviewers' other reviews - they are for all kinds of unrelated products and they almost always give five stars. Coincidence? I think not. I decided to post a true review. I rarely bother to leave reviews, but was particularly frustrated by my own search among so many similar products and I hope to help others.Frankly, all of the laser distance measures are very similar. I chose this one because:* Lower cost compared with similar models.* Smaller size compared with similar models.* Had 10 buttons. If you look carefully, you will see other models with fewer buttons; either features are missing or each button must do more than one function. I hate that.* Bubble level could be seen on top and on the side. Some had bubble levels on the top only. (Some had two bubble levels for two dimensions, but not this one.)* It had the features I wanted:- Units - meters, inches (with fractions to 1/16th inch), decimal feet, and feet / inches (fractions 1/16)- Triangulation to measure indirect walls - two spots (one right angle), and three spots (left, right angle, right).- Area and volume- It came in an 80 meter version for a reasonable cost. I paced out my property, and it seemed like a good fit.It arrived the next day so we tried it out, of course. I learned a few things about laser distance measures in general. They apply to all of them, not just this model:* They are very accurate, assuming that you can hold the device steady.* They are hard to hold steady, even when you prop the back of it against a wall, and especially if you are measuring a long distance. Pushing the measure button causes the device to move (doh!). I suppose I will get better with practice. For critical measurements, a tripod or a monopod is probably very helpful. I would not recommend buying a model that does not have a tripod mount. I rejected a few models for that reason.* Fortunately, with this unit there is a brief pause before you hear the beep and the measurement is taken. That gives you an instant to realign the laser spot to where you really wanted it after you push the button.* They do not work outdoors in daylight, even the models that have an "Enhanced Mode" feature. I could not see much of a difference between regular mode and enhanced mode. Actually they work up to a point, it is just that you can't see the spot. If you want a rough distance measurement in daylight, just point and see what happens. Try it a few times to be sure you are getting measurements that are "in the ballpark." Most of the time, just wait until it is nearly dark outside - dusk or dawn.* Measuring indirectly (Pythagorean theorem), such as a wall length, depends on at least one right angle measurement. You can stand at a right angle to one end, then point to the opposite end, or you must take three measurements, left side, right angle, and right side. Here are the great, the good, the bad, and the ugly:The Good:* Very accurate, assuming you have a very steady hand.* There is a helpful delay between when you push the measure button and when it beeps for the measurement. It is perhaps 1/2 second or so.* Small and lightweight.* Relatively easy to use.* Runs on two AAA batteries, which are easy to install.* All features work as described, but some are not that great. The Bad:* Hard to hold steady.* The beep cannot be shut off. Fortunately it is not loud and it is not annoying.* The memory function saves 20 recent values, which you can scroll through using the + and - buttons. You cannot label them, so unless you remember what they measured, it won't help you much. In the end, you will want to write them down.* Units are limited to decimal meters, inches with fractions (1/16), decimal feet, feet/inches(with fractions 1/16). Decimal inches (which is what I wanted to make architectural drawings of my kitchen) are not available.* The user manual is very poorly written by a non-native speaker of English. It is missing basic information, such as how to get out of Area Measure mode, for example (press the Off/Clear button).* Does not work in ordinary daylight. I doubt that any of the models in this price bracket does. The Ugly:* Units always reset to meters every time you shut it off.My wife and I debated whether to keep this laser measuring device, but decided that we would probably improve with practice and it was still far better than the long tape measure. It is fast and easy to use if you can position it reliably and hold it steady.I hope that this review helps someone. Good luck!

Measures better than I do
I love this thing, it makes measuring way too easy and I'm afraid my measuring skills will disappear if I continue to use this in place of measuring tape. Actually this might be a good thing. When I first used it, i thought it was off so I took a second measurement to find it was my measuring and not the Rangefinder. Matter of fact, after quite a few attempts using this in different areas I, sadly to say, found this Rangefinder more accurate than my own measurements. This will never be able to replace the measuring tape for tight spaces and unique areas but it sure is a great alternative for those long distance measurements that require someone to hold the dumb end of measuring tape.Disclaimer: I DID NOT receive this item at a discounted rate, I paid the full going price at the time of purchase and my review was NOT influenced in anyway (feel I should make this disclaimer these days).

Yeah - if you want a low cost alternative to Bosch, this is it!
I was pleasantly surprised how well this works and how accurate it is! I purchased a competitive product and it failed in days so I was dubious about what alternative to choose. This has been a very pleasant surprise and very accurate. The laser can't be seen outside but great value for money and so easy to change units. One benefit is that this unit does not accidentally switch on and run the battery flat because of the recessed on/off switch.

This thing is great. I needed something to check distances in my home theater. This is quick and easy. It is easy to switch between inches(120 1/4", feet and inches in fractions(10' 1/4", and feet in decimal (10.25'). Of course, meters too if you prefer. It turns measuring around the house into a one person job without trying to hook a tape measure somewhere or bend the end of the tape and read it on the curve. It is accurate to 1/16" which is good enough for almost any construction type project. It also saves a number of measurements (20, I think) so you can take multiple measurements then transfer them into plans or onto paper all at once. For home remodeling, this is not just a good idea, it will save you time and money with more accurate measurements (fewer do-overs) taken more quickly.

Could do without it
This is the first such device I have tried OR owned. It is such a useful tool that I would want to replace it right away if broken or lost. There are many similar units and it was confusing deciding on which to buy. This one seemed to have more buttons/features than many others + the tripod.+ converts units. example: 1.7m -> 70 9/16 in -> 5.883 ft -> 5' 10" 9/16+ add and subtracts+ continuous measurement with min & max+ area+ volume+ measure height of distant object by measuring to top and then to base (trigonometry)+ rugged rubber protective edging- Not good outdoors when there is much light

great product
purchased for hubby of 75 yrs old, first time user, took to it like a pro.....he loves woodworking, etc., and loves this product and wonders why he hadnt purchased one sooner!!! As you get older, bending to see a measurement on a tape is not very comfortable, but with this digital laser, finally those "honey do" things will get done. No more excuses!!

Easy to read
Sure, it doesn't carry the fancy "Bosch" nametag but it also doesn't carry its pricetag. I inspect homes that require measuring rooms quickly and accurately and this handy device does the job. I couldn't justify spending $70-150 for essentially speeding up the tape measure process and this gets an accurate enough measurement to quickly move through the rooms of a home with ease. Easy to read, easy to use, and easy on the wallet. Highly recommended.

Works great
Works wonderfully. I needed quickly for measuring a convention room and laying out a stage. Despite other reviews, this was easy to use in feet and inches with never going back to metric. We even used it against someone's shoe on the ground to get a rough idea of the stage size. In testing in my home(where I know as built measurements) it was spot on. Great product for traveling.
