Fantastic for smaller telescopes on a budget
I bought this to use as a grab-and-go support for smaller telescopes – there are lots of reviews here from a photography / videography perspective, but none for astronomy that I could find, so I thought I’d chime in.The tripod arrived quickly and well packaged, no complaints on that front. I’ll join many others here and say that for the price, I am quite stunned at the sturdiness of this item. I work in TV production so am familiar with the more industrial tripod brands, and while this doesn’t match something that would set you back hundreds of pounds, it’s astonishingly close. The build quality itself is good – again, far better than expected for the price. Legs and majority of body and head are metal, as is the pan arm; tension adjustment knobs, pan handle, nifty carry handle around the centre pillar, extension clasps and winch handle etc. are plastic. The only part that feels a bit cheap on mine is the L/R tension control, which has very little travel between very loose and locked, but this minor complaint aside all controls operate smoothly enough and feel sturdy when locked in place. The quick release plate is also plastic, but has no wobble with the kit I tested, and had no problems attaching to any of my ‘scopes. Set-up and take-down is swift, and the tripod packs down into a genuinely compact size. It also comes bundled with a decent soft carry case for tidy storage and ease of transportation – though the unit also has a carry handle built into the tripod, though I wouldn’t use this to carry the mount around with a telescope still attached, as that does feel like it’s pushing the limits of what the handle can support. So far I’ve tested this with a 70mm mini-Mak spotting scope (approx. 1kg) and an 80mm short-tube refractor (approx. 2kg) – I also own a 100mm reflector, but this is the lightest of my collection so for testing didn’t bother. I'm definitely a budget backyard astronomer, so I'm not fixing huge, thousand-pound light buckets onto this, but people with pockets as deep as that are unlikely to be shopping in this aisle! Both scopes are well within the weight rating for the mount as advertised, and performance reflects this! Alt-az directional panning with both ‘scopes was smooth, and the alt especially stays where it is without having to overtighten the tension adjustment. I was especially surprised that this was the case with the 80mm, which I’d deliberately overloaded with the heaviest diagonal I have, plus a barlow, plus the heaviest EP, at full focuser extension – it stayed right where it was pointed! Even at relatively high magnifications (x67), the image settled for both scopes within 2 seconds after kicking the tripod legs with all but the last set of leg extensions used; with the legs fully deployed, the last extension degrades visual stability a fair bit with the heavier scope, but that’s to be expected. I’m six foot tall and found no need to extend the last set for a comfortable viewing angle so for most I don’t expect this to be a serious issue for most. I imagine it will worsen further with the upward height extension fully deployed, but as a rule I avoid using those for astronomy as they impact stability too much.I can happily say that now I own one of these, my grab’n’go setup for those impromptu sessions when the weather suddenly turns clear, or for travelling abroad, is perfected. I’ve ordered a slow-motion control gearhead adapter to try out, and if that combines effectively with this tripod, I won’t have any need for the Vixen Mobile Porta mount I already have either – this thing is *that* steady, and at a tiny fraction of the cost. Is it as exquisitely crafted as a Manfrotto? Of course not, but it’s less than £30. And for that price tag, the stability this mount provides is – again – just astonishing. I’ll be wholeheartedly recommending a purchase to any astronomer enthusiast who’ll listen.PROS:PriceExcellent stability (tested up to 2kg)Head motion smooth; holds position wellPacks down to genuinely compact size, decent quality carry case includedLargely metal constructionCONS:Some plastic parts - though to be expected for the priceCan't comment on lifespan (yet)

Portable Tripod,K&F Concept 70"/177cm Travel Tripod
This review is for the tripod only as it didn't come with the monopole.Best tripod that I've ever had tbh. Very sturdy and easy to use, was great for using for night photography (with remote kit) on the Isle of Skye this year (2020). It has a hook for adding weight for stability which I've not needed to use yet but seems like it will take a fair amount. The feet adjust to the terrain which is better than the fixed feet on previous tripods that I've had. The carry handle is a little awkward but useful, as is the carry strap. One very minor point is that the bag is a little bit of a tight fit, but no big deal. All in it was great value for money and if I need another one I'll be buying this again. Highly recommended by an amateur photographer.

Practical K&F tripod
I bought this tripod for photography and filming, and am pleased with the result. The tripod is no-fuss and sturdy, but light enough to carry easily. As each leg adjusts individually I can compensate for ground outdoors. The weight is nice for stability with a good-sized cam.The tripod comes with a useful holder to take a mobile phone. This is just large enough to hold my phone in its case, but if your phone is one of the largest you will need to use it without a case. The mount can be vertical or horizontal. The camera or phone holder fits onto a small plate on top, and this has a little escape mechanism. This works well and it's easier to fiddle with the camera and plate separately. I find the swivelling head a bit loose. This makes levelling the image slightly trickier. When this tripod arrived I made an unboxing video, but found that the carry bag had a small hole at one end, just big enough to fit my little fingertip. I mailed the supplier and when I provided my Amazon order number and photos, they posted me out a new carry bag. This actually arrived quickly considering it came from China over (January) New Year. However, I made another unpacking video to add to the original, and discovered the second bag has an almost identical hole. The first could be explained as getting knocked about while travelling with the tripod inside - it's a really tight fit - but the second came in a plastic bag that was undamaged and nothing was inside. The video is on YouTube. I told the makers and they said they would send another bag, but it has not arrived (in September). I can get by, but the hole will allow dust, moisture and grit potentially into the tripod, which might affect it later. This is a nice professional looking piece of kit which gets attention and gets the user taken seriously while filming. I am getting a lot of work out of it and will continue to find it useful. This is an unbiased review.

Excellent buy
I am extremely impressed with this tripod. The price point is great given the quality of the product. I’ve bought the cheaper options from Amazon in the past and although lighter than this tripod, they have been flimsy in comparison and far too short. What’s more, they have broken easily. For only currently £10 more than its competitors (at time of purchase), this tripod has definitely offered far more bang for the buck. Still easily portable and so much more versatile and sturdy. I’m happy with my purchase.

Super Lightweight Versatile Tripod
I have been on the lookout for a super lightweight and highly versatile tripod to take with me at a moment’s notice for quick video assessments. That’s when I discovered this K&F CONCEPT B174A1 Travel Tripod with Bluetooth Remote for Camera Smartphone.Weighing in at just a little over 1 1/2 pounds, this aluminum and plastic tripod is very well constructed, and folds down to a length of just 17 inches for easy storage in a vehicle or lashed to a backpack. By unlocking the tripod legs, this product can be extended up to 60 inches in length. The head of the tripod is designed to either use an expandable compression spring clamp (4.3” to 6.8”) to hold your smartphone, or a cold shoe to accommodate a screw-on conventional camera. The 3-way directional axis pan head allows for smooth 360° horizontal rotation and adjustable tilt angles to capture a full field of imagery.A small but value-added detail is the inclusion of a miniature dot-level to help ensure that your tripod is leveled-out for perfectly framed shots. It’s a small green circular level with an even smaller bead within, and located on the upper surface of where the top portion of the tripod legs attach to the center shaft. Also Included in the product offering is a camera remote shutter control fob, as well as a nifty soft carrying bag to store the tripod and remote.A compact, lightweight tripod will inevitably have some trade offs, regardless of how well it is made, and that applies to this product as well. With lightweight tripods, the lack of weight means potentially less stability when shooting in the field. That can be overcome if needed by adding either an aftermarket center-mounted counterweight, or investing in a sand/rock bag to suspend beneath the tripod in a sort of hammock. But for the most part, lightweight compact tripods like this have their place and do quite well for most assignments.Overall, I have been very impressed with this K&F CONCEPT B174A1 Travel Tripod, and can recommend it to anyone needing a quality- built portable tripod that can perform double-duty for use of smartphones or conventional camera use.
