A very useful addition with one minor drawback
A well-thought-out, quality product which adds just a little bit of extra height for those who find the a7C II's grip a tad too short. It also offers a number of connection methods for tripods, straps etc. The silver colour is matched nicely to the colour of the silver a7C II. It's maybe a touch lighter and more cool-toned than the top of the camera but it doesn't bother me... and I'm usually sensitive to that kind of thing. The integrated Arca-type plate works well on my tripods. Be aware that there are no safety pins to prevent accidental falls from the Arca clamp, so just be careful. I also like the inclusion of a strap mounting point on the baseplate which allows me to use my preferred strap arrangement where the strap is mounted to the top and bottom of the camera on the grip side. With a Peak Design anchor mounted there I can still get the battery door open with no problems. Once fitted, you have five 1/4" 20 mounting points available, plus two strap slots. There's also a QD connection point which is handy if you use things like the Black Rapid X system or other QD straps. If you're happy to sacrifice the tool storage, that location also sort-of works as a cold shoe for some items... in a pinch. It's not designed for this and the accessories can't slide all the way in but it's an option I'd consider for accessories with their own clamp, like the Røde Wireless Go receiver. They won't be super-secure but for a tripod-mounted setup I'd be happy to use it if I had no other option. Ultimately if you're looking for more accessory mounting options, get a cage. The only down side I've come across is that the tool storage is the least secure of any Smallrig baseplate/grip/cage I've owned. The tool is secured with two magnets but they're not very strong enough and the tool is in a location where it's vulnerable to accidental movement so expect to lose it. Edited to add: be aware that this baseplate is unfortunately not compatible with the DJI RS 4 gimbal — the gap between the Arca Swiss flange and the bottom of the LCD is just 1-2mm too shallow. As an alternative I'd suggest the Smallrig cage instead.

Flawless product + Excellent quality
This made my experience with the a7C II and Sony 24-50 f2.8 G so much better. I would say this is a must have for any lens larger than mine and I cannot fault my experience with this product. Comfort: My hands are average sized and it gives a place for my pinky to rest. This is both helpful when shooting and walking around with the camera in my hand. Using this baseplate means I can walk for hours with the camera in my hand without straining my wrist. It reduces the "front heavy" feel which can be painful after a while. Build quality + features: Build quality is phenomenal. There is no movement in the baseplate when attached to my camera and it feels secure. The hinged arm for the battery door access feels great and sits neatly in place. The 1/4" thread holes on the bottom are perfect for attaching other accessories such as the Peak Design Capture plate. Very easy to install due to perfect fit. Appearance: I love the silver on my a7C II and this is a great addition to the overall appearance. The colour of the baseplate matches the top of the camera very well and feels like an original Sony product. It also fits perfectly around the base of the camera, retaining the sleek, high quality aesthetic. Other: The magnetically attached slotted tool feels secure on the bottom of the baseplate and I feel confident that it won't fall off. I make sure there is no overhang, just in case.

Perfect addition to the Sony a7Cii
This baseplate by Smallrig really is the perfect addition to the Sony a7Cii. It not only looks great, completing the retro appearance of the camera, but feels good too. It offers just the right amount of extra grip while also giving more attachment points for straps. It also allows direct use on a tripod (in the horizontal position) being Arca Swiss compatible. There is also still easy access to the battery. I would have no hesitation in recommending this item - especially at this reasonable price.

My pinky thanks me everyone I use my camera now 🙂
Looks great! Well designed with quality materials. Now very comfortable to hold my camera and I’m still able to use accessories such as tripods, strap clips and straps. Very functional accessory highly recommended

Great base plate option for silver A7CR
Great base plate especially for the silver A7CR which gives it a classic retro vibe. The arcs Swiss compatible base means tripod connectivity is a breeze. Very good value for money and the colour is almost an exact match to the silver on the A7CR. Form and function in one package ! And it’s light !

An exceptional affordable grip!
I bought the official Sony GP-X2 grip for my A7C II which obviously is very good. However, it is extremely over priced for what it is as well as making a small camera not so small any more. Having realised there was a third party alternative in the Smallrig grip, I bought it to compare and I have to say although it doesn't match the body as well as the official grip, it is better in all ways. Smaller but giving the same level of grip. Significantly cheaper (£29 vs £160). Extremely well designed with the magnetic screw and hinge for the battery door. Well made and feels more premium than price would suggest. Worth every penny.

The perfect addition
The grip is brilliant, perfect for the A7Cii. It adds just the right amount of depth to the body. Access to the batter my is very easy. My only issue is that the supplied screw driver that is held in place with a magnet is very easily lost.

Excellent Option
Very well made, easy to fit and gives just enough extra grip for the little finger without making the camera too big. Recommended.
