. Review: Outstanding album - This is one of 3 albums by Fogelberg that I'd consider to be a masterpiece, or nearly so (the other two being "Nether Lands" and "Home Free"). I'll agree with those here who note that "Someone's been telling you stories" is relatively weak, although the backing chorus by members of "The Eagles" keep even that song from being a throwaway. Overall this is highly enjoyable acoustic/country/rock/pop - similar in some ways to that of The Eagles, but Dan's expressive voice, lyrics, and melodies actually make it better than most of the Eagles' work. The production by Joe Walsh is terrific, there's just a touch of "Hotel California" slide-guitar sound, without being overly done. Walsh mainly lets Fogelberg and the other musicians (who are also outstanding) shine in a very natural, real sense; this is not at all overly layered or gimmicked-up. My favorite track here is "As the raven flies", and "Morning sky" is another standout, but all of the songs are strong (save for the above-mentioned "Someone's been..."), and fit very well together. Getting back to what I easily consider to be Dan's best 3 albums, "Souvenirs" has what I'd consider to be his signature sound, and it's certainly one of his best ever. On the other hand, "Nether Lands" has no weak tracks, flows well, is loaded with incredible lyrics and music - if had had to decide on only one, I suppose it would be my top choice in a very close race. But "Nether Lands" has a different sound than the typical Fogelberg album - quite a bit of lush orchestration and wonderful instrumentation that departs from the standard "country/folk/pop" sound that I associate with Fogelberg. "Souvenirs" has more of a live folk/pop concert sound vs. the lushly beautiful orchestration of "Nether Lands". Dan's first album "Home Free" is very spare and intense; sounds almost as if he were playing all the instruments himself. "Home Free" is a little spotty (many tracks soar with his very best - especially the opening song, others are slightly weak) but is also not to be missed. "Souvenirs" though is to me most representative of DF's very best work; it's a "must have" for even casual fans. Review: Great music! - Solid album with a couple of Dan Fogelberg's hits. He should be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

Fantastic Fogleberg cd!
The late Dan Foglebergโs second album. Love this. Great for any collection. A Mississippi radio station, WZZQ propelled him to a star!

Wonderful Album By An Underappreciated Amercan Artist
Dan Fogelberg is a one-man extravaganza, as anyone listening to any of his albums recognizes when they see how many instruments he plays to both acoustic and electric effect. I was introduced to this one in the late seventies by my then teenaged nephew, who incidentally later went on to star in the production of "Tommy" on Broadway, and have loved Dan Fogelberg ever since. Here are a number of terrific folk-rock entries, from "Part Of The Plan" to "Illinois" (even though when listening to it I always want to call Dan to remind him Illinois is only 2,000 miles east of California, not 3,000!), to "Souvenirs" itself. My personal favorite is "There's A Place In The World For A Gambler". Fogelberg's lush and slightly over-produced sound is something that grows on you, and his terrific voice is a sweetly perfect vehicle for the thoughtful, lyrical, and homespun melodies he writes and plays. This one is among his first outings, and he went on to fame and fortune with a whole string of hits. Still, this album is among my favorites, and I think you'll come to love it as well. Enjoy.

It's beautiful. Part of the Plan became one of Dan's ...
I saw a review of Souvenirs in Rolling Stone...the reviewer gave it high marks, so I decided to buy the album (vinyl then). Once I listened to it, I was hooked on Dan. Song from Half Mountain was written in Colorado, which later became his permanent home. It's beautiful. Part of the Plan became one of Dan's consistent closing songs in concert. Illinois is a nice tribute to his original home. As the Raven Flies is the rocking song on the album...kind of a haunting tune. Someone's Been Telling You Stories is more defiant, but very effective. The album was produced by his friend Joe Walsh who played on 10 of the 11 songs. This album got a lot of people to really notice Dan...myself included. Fortunately, it was the first real commercial success that became a springboard to subsequent albums.

Early Fogelberg with a pinch of Joe Walsh
I have always been a huge fan of Dan Fogelberg and this is an album I never really listened to when I spent many hours during my college days listening to "The Innocent Age", "Phoenix" and "Twin Sons.." I bought the CD in conjunction with the guitar lesson DVD teaching how to play some of the songs on the album. I really fell in love with this album after several plays. "Part of the Plan" has always been one of my favorites, but I also like "Illinois", "There's a Place in the World for A Gambler" and "As the Raven Flies". The album is very country/bluegrass. Joe Walsh, who produced it, lends a big hand on guitar. I highly recommend this album to anyone who is a Dan fan who missed his early stuff or if you are looking to get an intro into his music. While I still believe "The Innocent Age" is his seminal album, you should definitely stick with Souvenirs if you want to hear Fogelberg's bluegrass/country roots. Many critics unfortunately branded Dan as sappy because of songs like "Longer", but if you talk to a true Dan fan, they will tell you what a great musician and writer he was. What a shame he was taken away.

i owned this album on vinyl years ago and it was one of my favourites, dan fogelberg created music for any mood itโs so nice to hear these songs again and listening to this album took me back to a time I consider to be the golden age of the singer/songwriter,itโs sad to know heโs no longer here as being a reader of all things music,it comes across as him being a very influential musician to lots of modern day singer/songwriters,Iโve enjoyed listening to this album so much that Iโm now going to track down as many of his albums as I can to add to my music cd collection,a great worthy edition to anyoneโs music collection, highly recommended.

In my opinion, this title (and Netherlands) are must-haves for any Fogelberg fan. Dan was grossly underrated in the category of Songwriter.

Un album con alcuni brani che ricordano i migliori Crosby,Stills,Nash. Brani molto belli come ad esempio "As The Raven Flies", "(Someone's Been) Telling You Stories" e la bellissima "There's a Place In The World For a Gambler".

I get regular lists from Amazon trying to tempt me Into buying another CD and on this occasion It was no contest. I came across Dan In the 70's and instantly loved this album which I still have today, 40 years on. Dan died In 2007 aged 56, this no age at all, but at least he gave us 34 years of smashing music. Souvenirs gives us 11 top class tracks, the best being Changing Horses, Better Change and As The Raven Flies, this Album Is really chilled and It's often the Album I go to sleep to. Thoroughly good buy with 8 "A" Tracks and 3 "A+", ENJOY.
