Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 5G, US Version, 512GB, Bora Purple - Unlocked (Renewed)

I purchased this phone back in January, its been just about 4 months. To start i purchased it at a lower price due to selecting one with cosmetic damage, didn't bother me, I know to read descriptions when buying used. My issue was that the phone actually didn't stay powered on and would only work when plugged in. Im giving 5 stars because the customer service was great. I was originally offered a refund but I needed a phone so I asked about an exchange instead. I forgot who I spoke with but they delivered. I got a phone at the same price point which had 0 defects. I almost thought it was brand new. After 4 months just about the phone is still good. I have 0 issues with battery, both screen work, the folding still feels tight and good etc. Again my exchange was used also, I expected there to be some cosmetic damage or scratches on screen etc but it came 100 percent flawless. I will be ordering again since my wife now wants one.

This was my second Galaxy Flip4. My first I bought in June of 2023 direct from T-Mobile. In September it slipped out of my pocket while sitting in a chair, and it landed on a wood floor....so not a high fall and a fairly soft surface. The impact caused the hinge to misalign and the screen to detach. I did have it in a case at the time, but it was only a small piece of plastic covering the hinge. I decided it was just a "freak" occurence, and wanting to save some money, ordered another Flip4 since I liked the performance and features of the phone, especially it's smaller size in my pocket. I also ordered a better case that protected the hinge with a sturdier cover. Last week, for no reason at all (no drops or impacts) the hinge began to fail, and the screen began detaching from the phone. It's obvious that the hinge is a very weak design on these phones, and isn't built to last. You would think Samsung would have put more effort into making it reliable, but alas it's a typical "made to fail" product. Long story short: great idea, unreliable execution. If you buy one of these, get the insurance and fully expect a failure of the hinge and screen at some point.

I was a little bit nervous and skeptical about this purchase but Im SO impressed its beautiful, no outer scratches or deficiencies that i have seen, my iphone was slowing down and glitching all of a sudden so I think this was a good buy bc apple loves to slow down their older phones, the camera is so cool you can see your self when you use the back camera so you know what you look like, it is WAY louder than my iphone, and is super cute with wayy kore storage..100% recommend, if it starts to act weird I’ll update this but no complaints so far 👍🩷 i cant take any pictures bc im using my iphone to write this and its saying the storage is full when i literally deleted ALL of my pictures 🙄 i hate this thing sm..

This review is for the phone as well as the process of buying a Renewed item through Amazon. I purchased this phone because I could not find a phone that isn't massive but that still had the features and performance I require for daily use, so I decided to try this renewed Flip 4. The 90 day return policy and the great price convinced me to try it out. Not sure if I can name the seller in the review but I basically selected the phone in the best condition from the highest-rated seller fulfilled by Amazon. The phone arrived in blank packaging with a charging cable. It looks like there is a screen protector installed, plus there was a plastic film on top of the screen for packaging. It came half charged. The phone itself looks brand new. No detectable blemishes or signs of use. Hinge is nice and solid. Full charge was very fast (with fast charger). Setup fairly easy with Samsung transfer app but I am still missing a few passwords and accounts. I can manually add those later. There is a lot of bloatware from Samsung, plus carrier junk apps. (I think this is carrier unlocked- when I put my SIM it, it applied my carrier settings and apps.) Battery life (as expected-lots of info on this) is not great. I knew that going in. I am tracking battery usage throughout the day with different levels of use- screen open and closed, dormant or playing videos - and it seems as though this particular device doesn't deplete battery any more than would be typical for a phone this age. I suspect this particular phone was very gently used to begin with. Example: battery depleted about 10-15% overnight with no use, not plugged in. With heavier usage the battery use goes up to about 10% per hour. Not sure if there's anything I can adjust/disable to make this more efficient. My old phone would give me 1.5 to 2 days of a charge with regular use so this will be an adjustment. The screen is beautiful and easy to see. Samsung is an upgrade overall for me and I am pleased with how smooth it runs. Nice on-screen keyboard, etc. I am not tech savvy so there are probably too many customization options for me personally. I really just want a phone that works well for calls, that I can text on and use internet and maps periodically. This should do the job just fine. No SD storage and no headphone jack. I guess that's becoming customary. The device doesn't seem flimsy at all. That being said, I would get a case ASAP in the event of inadvertent drops - it happens. Signal and connection seem good, as does speaker quality. The fingerprint sensor is on the side near the volume buttons. Not sure I am crazy about this placement and it never registers the first time for me, but I think that's probably a user (me) problem. Overall I had a very good experience buying Renewed. Anyone who is interested in trying a flip smartphone, this is very economical option without a major commitment. I will update my review accordingly if, within 90 days, anything goes haywire on the device.

In general I love this phone. I thought the screen crease would bug me, but not at all. I want a bigger outside screen, but being able to bend it while a use it, and being able to close it compeltely, is so much more handy than I expected. But it's fragile, and unrepairable. The edge seal around the screen has started to break off, and I'm pretty that makes it not waterproof. But any repair to a foldable phone is always more than replacing it.

Other than being in an aftermarket box, it was like new. Charging with a standard adapter isn't fast, but it's plenty good enough if you charge each night. I don't notice the fold at all, unless I look for it. Can't beat the price. I wanted a pocket phone, and this is ideal. Seems to be a decent camera. Not a world beater, but plenty good. This is the second day, and it's still wanting to do more updates. Something of a nuisance, but that's how it is with an older reset phone. The Samsung Smart app that is supposed to move data seems to have corrupted my old phone (Revvl V +5G) when I loaded it. So it's going to have to be factory reset for anyone to use. I don't keep much on a phone that I want, but I suggest you do an independent backup before attempting is. All in all, I'm happy with the decision and certainly with the price, since not being a thumb monkey, there's no way I'll pay $1K for a phone.

I purchased it as an Amazon Renewed phone listed in “Good” condition for over $250, trusting that Amazon would stand behind its renewed products. When the phone arrived, it came in a plain brown box with minimal packaging. It had visible scratches around the hinge area (see photos). Since I knew I was purchasing a renewed phone, I accepted the cosmetic condition. There was also a noticeable crease when opened, but that did not bother my husband since we knew that was common with flip phones. I purchased a protective case to help protect the phone. For the first three months, the phone worked fine. However, around the fourth month, the screen started glitching and eventually the phone became unusable. When closed, the phone appeared normal and worked. When opened, the screen stayed black. I could hear the phone powering on, but the display would not show icons or allow access to any functions. I contacted the seller, Macalegin Electronics, because the phone they sold me for over $250 had failed after only a few months. They refused to replace the phone or provide a refund. Their response was: “The Flip and Fold models are very delicate and can develop issues like this. If the hinge does not close all the way, it is typically because of debris getting stuck inside the hinge.” They suggested I contact Amazon for an A-to-Z Guarantee refund. However, Amazon’s A-to-Z Guarantee only covers purchases within 90 days. After multiple calls and even speaking with a supervisor, my claim was denied because I was outside that timeframe. I do not believe a $250+ Samsung phone should become unusable after only four to five months of normal use. I also do not accept the explanation that debris caused the issue when the phone had a protective case and the hinge scratches were present when it arrived. Buyer beware when purchasing renewed flip or fold phones, especially from Macalegin Electronics. Do not assume Amazon Renewed electronics come with a one-year warranty. If you choose to purchase one, consider buying an extended warranty. I will not purchase from this seller again.
