Love Splat Midnight colors
I love this stuff! I've heard/read complaints from people I know & online so I'll say I was skeptical but it worked well on my hair & I continue to use it...in case you don't want to read the whole review. For the record I have long wavy dirty blond/red hair & I'd say it's "medium" on the darkness scale. I tried putting some in my kid's hair, both have dark brown hair & it didn't really come through. On my hair however, which now has streaks of silver in it as the red fades (commonly happens to redheads early, I'm not even 40), it shows up really well. I've used the midnight jade, midnight amethyst, midnight indigo & midnight tanzinite.1. The colors show up vibrant & they last forever...if you were hoping for something that would wash out you'll want to look elsewhere. I last added 3 colors to my hair in December 2022. It's now March 2023 & it's faded a bit but still surprisingly vibrant. I'll redo it again soon but mostly just because of so much crown growth, not because the colors have faded.2. I've used other hair colors since I was a teenager & found Splat to be about as messy as any of them. Some people really go on about how messy it is but with a few precautions you won't even be able to tell. For starters, wear a t-shirt, something that covers your torso & maybe even long sleeves if you have long hair. I that when putting streaks of color in, it's easy to get a little color on your arms/shoulders. Then, I use a little petroleum jelly on my hair line so I don't stain the skin on my face. Also gloves...the ones that come with the kit are cheap and lame, I buy medical grade ones to use. I also like to use scrap fabric/paper towels to lay around the sink because I hate cleaning up more than I have to. Once I'm done with my hair the sink/tub will be stained...it's hair dye, it stains...not better or worse than other colors I've tried & no matter how much of a mess I've made, it's always come off the sink/tub with a little bleach spray and a scrub daddy or one of those arm in hammer scrub pads.Pros:1. Relatively cheap compared to other products/going to a salon2. Long lasting color with relatively little fade/good color payoff (this could be a con but this is what I wanted)3. Color does stain skin BUT comes off easily with a body scrub/exfoliation4. Color/product cleans off of tile/tub/sink easily with bleach spray, hot water & a scrub pad5. You can use one bottle for a long time. I've had a green that I've been using since 2021 & I still have enough for one more application left & it's fine. I just keep it in the box in a cool dry place without natural light & have had no issues with consistency/efficacy of the product.6. Gentle-other box dyes have caused burning on my sensitive scalp but I've never had that issue with this product.7. Flexible-leave it on for an hour, or leave it on for 6 hours because you accidentally fell asleep with plastic wrap on your head...your hair will still be beautiful & healthy (assuming it was already somewhat healthy)8. No bleach in product or needed (I hate bleaching my hair so I appreciate this)Cons:1. It's hair color, it's gonna be somewhat messy & you have to clean it up/take steps to protect body/skin/area or it will stain2. The gloves that come in the box are really flimsy & have broken/leaked every time I've used them (they are single use gloves but you get 1 pair with each box of dye)3. I've seen first hand where hair didn't take color at all, but similar hair a shade or 2 lighter DID take the color so it's a little fiddly...it works GREAT on my hair (which is medium light if anything) but I know & have tried it on other people who I didn't think had particularly *dark* hair & it didn't show up at all.4. It's been difficult for me to find these colors in stores/I've had to order them online. This is a con for me because I prefer to shop in person but it might be a pro for you!

Beautiful with Other Colors
So, I've had the Splat Deep Emerald, Blue Envy, Crimson, and the dark purple one for 5 months now and they’re still going strong. How did I get it to stay well?1. I put the color on in the morning, put a plastic bag over my hair, blow dried over the plastic for 20 minutes, and left it in until night time - 10 hours. The result was that it all of the colors were very deep. The crimson looked almost black. I liked it because for someone like me who needed to slowly get the administrators to accept it, it was perfect. It lightened up over the months until now it’s very bright.2. Wash your hair in the sink, or rubber band it on top of your head when you take a shower, or use a shower cap. Then 5 minutes before you get out of the shower, wash your hair and only rub the shampoo into your scalp (not on the ends!) one time. Remember that the longer you let your hair be wet, the more color that will drain out the ends. Oh, and make sure to use plastic gloves on your hands for all that color coming out about 3 months at least while you’re washing or drying your hair (and keep a towel that you just use on your hair).3. Wash your hair once a week (once in a while twice a week is okay).4. After you wash it, put in some good conditioner and then you can blow dry it if you need to like me.5. The sun will fade your hair, as well as if you put night cream on your face - it faded the hair that hit my face after 4 months. Of course this just made it look prettier to people.6.Back to the Application: If you have used Feria (the best colorant on the market for permanency (if you don’t use their conditioner after the initial application) for more subtle blues, purples, etc….), know that it and some other brands penetrate the hair shaft so completely that the bleach that comes with the Splat will not work well after a few minutes. It took me 7 hours to get my hair to bleach yellow blond, not even white. Luckily, I only decided to bleach and use the Splat color highlights in my hair - of course that bleach damaged it so much (direct dyes like splat actually condition your hair). I left the blond highlights for 2 weeks. Then I colored them with Splat colors. I’ve definitely lost about 3 inches of that hair from breakage over these 5 months. IMHO the Deep Emerald looks best when combined a bit with turquoise of blue dye if you didn't bleach your hair all the way to white. The people that complain about it looking swampy didn't bleach their hair to the white blond. If you bleach it to yellow blond, it will get more of those yellow tones as it fades. That's why I suggest a bit of blue to counteract the yellow if you didn't bleach your hair to white to begin with.More Info.: People always ask why Splat and other companies that sell bright colors for hair make the dye so messy. The reason why is that direct dyes don’t penetrate the hair shaft. The dye sits on top of the blond/white airshaft and when light hit the hair, the light travels through the shaft and lights up the hair so that you can get brightly colored hair. “Natural colors like brown penetrate the hair shaft so that the light doesn’t enter the hair shaft. That’s why they don’t make a mess after application - the color is inside the hair shaft. But the result is that they’re not bright. Here's a photo of the Deep Emerald with other Splat colors after 5 months.

Semi-Permanent Fantasy
The pink comes out so vibrant, even on darker blonde hair. Wish it were permanent, but I will settle for semi-perm as it lasts for quit some time. LOVE SPLAT!

Not this splat!
The product came quickly which is great, I usually use the purple splat dye with no issues. However, once I opened and began applying this new "pre mixed" dye I noticed it was VERY watery, dripping off my head the entire time spent applying the dye to then waiting 40 minutes until washing out. Leaving it in longer than other dyes it still did not dye my hair and was not worth the 14$ plus tax unfortunately.

Watery and poor formula
I don’t have any pictures unfortunately, but I’m not really sure what happened with the formula here. It’s quite messy and watery. The bottle was easy to set up and squeeze into my hair but it would just not stay on. The pigment and lasting of the color is quite poor as well. I washed my hair three times and the color is gone. I may have gotten a failed batch. I’m pretty disappointed because I tried a different Splat color before and it turned out perfect.

My Niece loved it
I used this to colour my niece’s hair. She really wanted pink hair. The colour took really well despite me not bleaching her hair first. I’m sure if I had bleached her hair it would’ve been better, but I didn’t want to bleach a child’s hair. The colour only stays vibrant for a few weeks, but I’m sure it would last longer for an adult who put effort into keeping the colour lasting.. proper shampoo and such. Either way, she was happy so I’m happy.

Stains extremely well!!
I've always loved spat it really does the job you want! Stains your hair like no other semi dye. I've tried many and by far splat has to be my favorite! Bleeds out just like any other semi colorful dye, but you do really get left with vibrant color for a very long time! Touch up as needed! Also smells really good!
