HYPERAX Iridium Hitch Mounted Kayak Rack Carrier

Took me awhile to write this review. I purchased this may of 2024, but had an arm injury so I didn't get to use it. Today we did a test run as we are going on a 3 day trip. So I love this rack. I did have a roof rack on my old car but on my new Mazda cx-5 i did want one because it was hard to get a 40lb Kayak up on my roof. I have never seen a rack like this before i looked it up but it is so easy. I can put my Kayak on there myself no issues. I am not a strong female so this makes it nice if I were going alone. Our Kayaks are the anglers fishing Kayak. 10ft long sit on. The racks are easy to install and come with all the straps you need. My overall height from road to tip of Kayak is 12ft 3 inches. Max road height for hauling is 13'6" in Missouri iI dont know other states i will look that up if we travel out of state. These racks are so straight forward and the straps are simple no more trying to figure out how I did it last time cause its the same each time. This was a great purchase for people who don't want a trailer to have to license insure check lights tires etc plus dont have storage for it. I love these and highly recommend. I will had wind resistance is same as with roof rack. .

Pay attention. To the up to 12 ft kayak Mine didn't fit and it doesn't have vertical hieght adjustment so I needed to return I would of kept it if the top of my kayak would sit lower that 13ft 6 in

The instructions did not match the parts and tools. 1. They use a combination of standard and metric parts and tools...terrible idea. 2. They provided 2 metric allen wrenches, supposedly a 10mm and an 8mm. But the 10mm was actually about a 15mm, it was huge and did not fit anything in the box. 3. They stated in the instructions that a 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 8mm and a 10mm allen wrench were needed. A 10mm was not needed at all. The one place in the instructions that stated a 10mm was needed, was really an 8mm. The 2 spots that said an 8mm was needed, was actually a 7/32" allen wrench. 4. There were 2 spots where it said a 17mm closed hex wrench was needed, but what was provided was not 17mm. Plus, it would not have worked anyway as a 14mm wrench was needed. Quality control on the instructions and the hardware is non-existent. You can tell the instructions were translated into English from another language and as stated before, the couple of tools provided were almost useless. Overall, it seems heavy duty enough, but haven't tried it yet. If my kayaks do not work, I will update this review and return this item. I have an Old Towne fishing kayak and an Ocean kayak. Update: my kayaks did not fit. The bottom areas where the kayaks are supposed to fit into, they did not. My kayaks just rested on top, the holes/openings that the ends of the kayaks are supposed to fit down into were nowhere near large enough. This rack probably works fine on those small, cheapo kayaks that are very pointy at the ends, but not large 10' plus size that are more snub-nosed.

This kayak rack is heavy duty and very sturdy. Works perfectly either behind our camper or on the truck hitch. Keeps them protected til we get where we are going.

I only sorta like this product, at least I can transport my kayak with it. It meets a minimal standard. It sits high on the hitch (so that the boat does not drag when in place) so for longer and/or heavier boats it takes two people to load. Also, one of the top pieces (arm) that holds the kayak in place should have a locking mechanism so boats can't be stolen. Someone did try to steal my kayak and when they discovered I had chained it to the rack, they took the removable piece with them. I can still use the rack because my RV has a ladder on the back so I do a top tie-down to hold it in place. The fact that anyone can remove the top arm is a major negative. I wrote and asked for a price on a replacement arm and they want $160 - 27% of the total cost of the rack! To me, that is an indication they know the piece is important and should have a lock. Last point, the protective foam padding is necessary, they do provide a second set for future use. It is super cheap and will wear out fast. I would not recommend this rack even though there are not many good options for RV carry.

this is totally one of the neatest racks I've ever seen - - took a bit to put together but the directions were great - is a bit heavy for one person but works great - totally a great purchase for those with kayaks -

Came on time and packaged well. Easily assembled with good directions. I haven't had the chance to try it yet so I'll update this when that happens.

This is my second purchased product from Hyperax. First was a bike rack and now the kayak carrier. Product is well built and great quality as I was expecting. Easy to assemble the rack and directions were easy to follow. The straps from the top bar are good but wish they were more of a hook style with ratchet. Otherwise great product.
