Great Picture and Good (LOUD) Sound from TCL
My living room already has a fantastic 65inch LG OLED, and I was going to buy a smaller OLED for the bedroom but thought I'd take a chance on The TCL 55QM8. I owned the smaller 50-inch iteration but returned it for the 55-inch, which is actually cheaper due to a recent price drop. A wise decision! After a 15 mins physical set-up followed by connectivity set-up via the Google Home app on my phone, my fussy eyes were immediately happy with the superfine colours, including deep black levels that I got used to on my living room LG OLED. Sound wise, I was surprised by how loud it gets, and the volume is superior to other sets of this size and its Dolby Atmos capabilities is perfect for day-to-day viewing/listening. That said, for bass lovers like me, my soundbar and sub will be occasionally handy, but won't be essential. I see some reviewers complaining about the sound, my fussy ears are happy. Some models have a sub woofer built into the rear, but not on this one. Oh, I was worried that I might be disappointed with the viewing angles, but whilst they are not of OLED quality, they are absolutely fine if you are not viewing too far off-centre. Again, they are not at all perfect, but my set is directly sat in front of my bed, so I am not bothered. As other reviewers have pointed out, BBC iPlayer, 4, and other UK specific TV apps are not included, so a letter in the box asks you to make contact with TCL if you require a fix. I contacted them and they put me through hoops with their requirement for proof of purchase in the form of a VAT invoice. What/why?!! A screenshot of my Amazon order wasn't enough. So, after a back and forth of emails and me sending the required VAT invoice, a Chromecast dongle was sent out the next day. Of course, an Amazon Fire Stick would work just as well. TCL, that's 0 stars from me for your polite but nonsense apps/invoice/dongle issue. If you're going sell TVs in the UK, please ensure that they are fit for purpose out of the box, and let potential buyers know in advance of dongle requirements. Anyway, the drama is over! The remote works well but for some unknown reason isn't backlit like the US model. Once set up, the "Hey, Google" voice control works hands-free or by the press of a button. You can also use Alexa to control the same functionality, such as on/off, volume, channel numbers, You Tube titles, etc. The Google smart features work fast enough for me, and definitely quicker than my LG Web OS. Overall, the missing UK apps issue aside, this is a great performing TV at a reasonable price. I'll be sure to update this review if given reason to. Highly recommended! Update: Returned for the bigger 55inch model.

Amazing tv, exceeds the expectation!
Impressive contrast and colour, clean cut seamless screen, google tv is also quite impressive-no laggy experience, fuss free set up, I am quite a picture quality maniac and I found the tv is amazing! Thou sound system is just a-ok level, yet still acceptable. Totally recommend for someone who wants a quality product with decent price.

Value for money!
It's an excellent google TV and very simple to install. The picture quality is very good and for the price you pay, you get a lot of TV. Simply putting it, it's pure value for money and a perfect 2nd TV to have for your spare lounge/ sitting/ dining area.

A good TV
There are a lot of bad things wrong with this TV but the good things that are right is the reason I'm keeping it, the list of bad things wrong with this TV are too long to list but here's a few, firstly when you save a program in your scheduled list you don't have the option to record it on a harddrive like on the sony ( the tv i replaced) also if you are scrolling down the tv guide if you stay on it for more than 10 seconds it will turn over to that channel even if you want it to or not which the sony didn't do , when you are watching a program and you hit the information button it gives you no information on the programme your watching , the remote and tv are slow to respond when scrolling down the tv guide and the list goes on , the good things are its a android tv with a 20 gig harddrive and its dolby Atmos and dtsx , it has a great picture and its a 4k hrd with Dolby vision and it has loads of streaming apps , I love the table top stand and also love that it's almost frameless but it's nowhere as good as the Sony which has faults hence me buying this TV , it's not to say it's bad but I would spend more to get a better TV but I couldn't afford to spend any more........Ps we've just had a update for this TV , I thought it was android 13 but it wasn't I think it was the last update for android 12 for preparation for android 13 , it's corrected a few of the problems I mentioned, the picture I think has more clarity and now if you are watching a certain programme you can now find out what the programme is about by clicking on the info button which you couldn't do before, I'm going to go through the TV settings ect and see what else has been changed , so after the update I've changed it from 3 star's to 4 star's and changed it to a good tv from not a great TV 👍

Great upgrade
Pro's - Great picture especially for the price (you do need to play around with settings though to find the right one for you and I Imagine it will depend on room). - I'm using Sky which has a HDR output and that gives a really lovely picture. Also as I use most of the apps through sky (Netflix, Prime, Disney etc) they get a great picture too. - Sounds is actually pretty good for a thin TV - Copes with blacks pretty well. Been watching solar system and lots of deep black with bright lights and watching in a dark room I was genuinely impressed. - Set up was very easy, device was light and easy to maneuver - My Xbox series X works really and picture is great with no noticeable lag Cons - UI is 'ok' on the homepage and does autoload Sky when I switch sky on, but the UI on the homescreen is ok, without being world beating - The besel and base is fine, without being inspiring - More ability to use screen as a photo frame, screen etc would have been great. - Movie mode in settings, even in the darkest of room is basically unwatchable

Excellent TV if you're lucky
Upgraded from a 2014 Sony 47" HD. After loads of reviews, a lot of which compare the TCL QM8 55" and a Hisense U8k QLED 55", I decided to take a chance on the TCL. Immediately impressed with the picture quality, specifically when watching HDR broadcasts from Apple TV and Disney. The quality of the blacks on night time city images were excellent. The sound from the TV speakers was better than my previous Sony, and would be fine for most, however, I would still recommend a soundbar for a deeper sound. The built in Google operating system is superb, however, be aware that BBC iPlayer and Itv X apps don't work on this TV. They haven't been certified by the BBC yet. Instead, you have to use a dongle with the apps included. I understand that TCL will supply a Roku stick if requested. The problem with my TV was the intermittent screen blackout when scenes changed on channels broadcast on BBC, channel 4 or itv. Didn't notice until a couple of days in, and didn't happen all the time. Only lasted a split second, but became really annoying once it appeared. It would sometimes happen for up to 10 minutes on the same channel. There were examples of this online, and possible fixes, but I didnt believe I should be fixing a brand new TV. Amazon, as expected, gave a full refund on the TV as it was spotted within the first 30 days of the purchase. It may be worth taking a chance on the TCL QM8 because if you get a TV that doesn't have this issue, (I may have been the unlucky one) and don't mind using external device for the apps, you'll get a superb image quality for a lot less than other popular brands.

Excellent picture, value for money.
After a bit of reading around we picked this up as our first 4k set, replacing a twenty year old Samsung. It is, unsurprisingly, quite the step up from our old 1080p set with vivid colours, and crisp blacks (perhaps owing to the mini led tech). Dolby vision is a welcome addition, and the onkyo sound is pretty good- though we use a couple of echo smart speakers hooked up to an Amazon 4k fire cube. Strictly has been transformed for the missus, I’ve enjoyed rewatching Blue Planet II in 4k HDR, and even the kid’s incomprehensible ‘Grizzly and the Lemmings’ has had a facelift. All very happy, and we really feel this set offers excellent value for money.

Fantastic 4K TV. Picture amazing. Apps working with software updates.
Fantastic TV. Excellent picture and Onkyo sound. Issues with BBC iPlayer and UK catch-up services, now resolved, with TCL TV firmware over-the-air update and Google TV software update. Apps then available from Google Play store. Installed and working correctly. Would highly recommend.
