Outstanding resource, number 1
Although this book is not published by Cambridge University Press, it is the best writing guide for IELTS. Cambridge books seem to have neglected writing part of the exam, at least when it comes to aiming for band 7+. This wonderful book does job much better than they do. Collocations and phrases are the main characteristic of this excellent reference, but is not the only thing I adore. Sample essays and comments teach you as well. I've been struggling to understand rules of task 1, including a plan of this kind of essay. I purchased this outstanding book and everything changed. I feel more confident. Missing page is not a problem because the publisher attached this for my request. Worth buying and working through it!

One of the most useful book for preparing IELTS writing test by yourself
One of the most useful book for preparing IELTS writing test by yourself! I reached a 7 after studying only this book: it gives advice and tips to succeed in any kind of task proposed, it's full of examples and useful vocabularies. And it's even less expensive than other books. If you're looking for a simple, well- organised and helpful book to pass your IELTS test with a high score (+6.5) I definetely suggest this one!

a great resource
This book is slightly different to a lot of IELTS writing skills books in that it has exercises, topical and academic vocabulary, and grammar explanations useful for parts one and two of the academic writing. It helps the students think about how they approach tasks and encourages them to read widely. For example, there are chapters on supporting arguments, giving opinions and avoiding generalisations as well as newspaper extracts on topical issues such as working from home. There are three chapters on part one. There are a lot of detailed exercises on comparative language, describing trends and so on, but in common with most books, there isn't much on HOW to group information in charts and graphs. Again, it encourages learners to think about topics covered in part one, such as how a town has changed in recent years. The language used in the models sometimes seems quite informal, but it is written by IELTS trainers so I suppose it must be ok.

This is an excellent text book for either self-study or guided study.
I’m using this with ESOL students who are going for advanced IELTS certificates. The book is very well laid out and relates closely to the IELTS exams. The exercises cover the areas and skills for which IELTS examiners are looking.

Very good book
It helped me a lot when I was trying to learn how to write task 1. The language it uses is very good and it breaks down the steps of writing high quality essays in a way that is very easy to understand and remember.

Not the best writing book
I purchased this book for self-study purpose however, it is more like for a class room type of book. There are lots of exercises saying, discuss it with your partner which is unnecessary for self-studying students as myself. I've studied English for over 20years and this is not the best book I've had. I am aiming for overall 8.0(Academic) in IELTS and I am not sure if I picked the right book. Overall, it is not a bad book but not my personal favourite.
