They go "click" when you hit them together, lol. Each one, on its own, is soundless, unless you drop it.

The item is definitely not made from Grenadilla wood as said, but 'selected indian hard wood'. Both the finish and sound are poor. Product returned. Won't even give it one star.

Well made and worth the money for a very good tone and good volume!

Nice sound, lovely hard wood. Note: Hold by the ends and really smack them together in the middle!
