This tool works amazingly well! I had previously followed the instructions on the Rinnai website for removing the old filter with needle-nose pliers, but the filter was old and the plastic ribs just broke off. I wasn't sure how I could get the old one out, so I purchased this tool as a last-ditch effort. On my very first try with the tool, the old filter easily came out perfectly in one clean piece, and I was able to quickly change out the old filter with a new one. (I will be more diligent in annual filter changes going forward.) I'll admit, it sounds expensive for such a simple tool - but it is perfect for the job. And I applaud the inventors for coming up with it. In perspective, it is a very small price to pay for maintaining the expensive Rinnai tankless without paying a plumber.

If you have a Rinnai tankless water heater, you need this. For something I only use twice a year I love it.

The tool isn't a must have if you've got other tools to remove the plug/screen. However, I bought it because it fits perfectly and reduces the chance of breaking the plug. I did buy spare plugs and screens so if something were to happen, I'm covered.

Perfect for removal of the filter nut on my Rinnai RUC80. I had already broken part of the internal leg using needle nose pliers, and it went right on and securely removed the assembly. I am leaving it in place for my next service!
