Double LP: Caravan Palace,Caravan Palace. Review: The Electro Swing masterpiece we all need. - I've been a huge fan of Caravan Palace after discovering them by accident a few months ago when listening to their song "Lone Digger", track number 1 on this album. Since then I've listened heavily to all their songs through desertcart Music and Youtube, and just knew I needed the physical CD. Now, I'm not usually one for CD's, really I'm not, but this was the exception to the rule! The disc itself is gorgeous (I won't spoil the design for you), the music clarity is crisp and superb, and the musical style is defined enough to make the band unique, while having a variety of play styles to keep you intrigued. If you're a fan of Electro Swing, you have to buy this album. If you want to support a relatively new and, this is a great way to do it. Highly recommended. Review: It's a treat!! - What a find - it's currently my favourite album! Have given it to 2 friends as Burton gifts, and my son is so taken with "Lone Digger" he has arranged it for his school jazz group. It's fun, it's different and it's most certainly worth the fairly low price on desertcart. Loved it!!!

It has that special “Je ne sais quoi”
I came to this music from a YouTube backing track. It has that French quirkinesses that sets it apart from the rest. Lone Digger is my favourite.

An extra star for Lone Digger
As many, it was Jools Holland that exposed this to me - seeing their rendition of Black Betty on New Year's Eve. Figured I'd go for their latest album (the cheapest at the time) to see if how I got on with them. Having previously been exposed to The Correspondents live I fell in love with the elctro-swing genre but have done absolutely nothing to progress this further, so I leaped at the chance to try out Caravan Palace. This album opens with an energetic bang in the form of Lone Digger. It is probably one of the best opening tracks I've ever heard and instantly hooks you on Caravan Palace and the album. A great beat, solid bass-line, fantastic use of 20s instruments samples and modern vocals. It's an uplifting assault on the ears and I couldn't help but keep increasing the volume - I'm now itching to listen to it at home on my floor-standers. The second track takes a different tone but is still enjoyable. Generally though the rest of the album sits distinctly second place to the cracking opening track, which is slightly depressing when listening to the whole album as it feels like the best was over way too soon. Otherwise it's an easy to listen to, quirky collection of house tracks. I get the feeling it will ultimately slide in next to Mint Royale's - See you in the Morning as a thoroughly enjoyable romp on dance music but not something I'll reach for on a regular basis. I'll fully expect I'll explore their earlier albums in the near future.

11/10
Ok 0/10 for the cd notes, but 11/10 for the music. Rocking, stomping, swinging, not a dud one there. I've given 5 stars because it is the music that counts.

Brilliant funky music!
Brilliant! Wonderful jazzy French music, with hints of trad jazz, but much more modern! Guaranteed to cheer you up if you are a little down in the dumps.

<I*_°I>
<I°_°I> is a little different from Caravan Palace's older albums, with a little less swing. But it still has groovy tunes on it and is worth getting.

The CD arrived within a reasonable amount of time, in pristine condition. I love how infectious the energy of their songs are, and how they always have the power to brighten my mood regardless of how dire life's looking.

Consigliatissimo.

They are so creative as a band and are very talented people. They have once again blended swing-style rhythm and chord changes with the electronica flow and modern synth feel, all in high definition production sound. It sounds great on good speakers where you can hear the whole spectrum of sound from the high-energy treble to the mellow bass. There does seem to be less tracks where pure improvisation is the focus, but they do leave space at the end of a number to close it with a solo. One must remember that the disk is basically a demo of their live performances. On stage they have room to extend and variate the songs. I eagerly look forward to new music Caravan Palace may remix or create although I may never tire of listening to their classics.
