Two legendary coaches give golfers a powerful new approach to the game... and to life. As coaches to some of golf’s top players, Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott have designed and refined a revolutionary way of teaching the game, with phenomenal results. They don’t believe in prescribing the same stance, grip, and swing to everyone, followed by hours of purposeless drilling. They don’t even believe in beginning with physical technique. Their success has proven to them that a great game begins with a great vision. Unlike any other golf book, Every Shot Must Have a Purpose offers cutting-edge techniques for integrating the physical, technical, mental, emotional, and social parts of a player’s game. The book’s revolutionary pre-shot routine will improve your focus, leading to a golf swing that is not only successful but can be repeated under extreme pressure. Emphasizing the individual golfer rather than a rigid set of mechanics, their VISION54 method takes the frustration out of the game. Why 54? Because they believe it’s possible to shoot a 54 (making a birdie on every hole of a par-72 course) if you have the right mind-set and well-honed intuitive power. An engaging read for the beginner or the seasoned golfer, Every Shot Must Have a Purpose is inspiration for life, not just the links. Review: Finally a book to help golfers - This is a great book and what I believe the first of its kind!! I was so moved by it that I ended up buying the other 3 books written by Pia and Lynn. I have read almost everything you can think of as far as books on the mental game and many books on the mechanics of the game. I for the first time feel I have direction with my golf game. I also can look back and see how I was a self-defeating and self-fulfilling prophecy with my anger and frustration with this game of golf. The past 2 yrs have been out right horrible and in both seasons I have quit for at least 2 weeks with no intentions on returning but the never ending draw of the game always brings me back. Through this book and their other books I can see my mental faults and most importantly how to attack them. You will not regret getting this or any of the other books if you really want to start enjoying this game. One of the best books I found that really shed light to my problems is the "Managing Emotions". The other 2 books, "Play your best golf now" and "The Game before the Game" are similar but my only corrective criticism is that I don't have enough time as a father of 2 and working full time to try all the activities they recommend. I have no doubt they are worthwhile and I will try to do them on my wed. afternoons off for my 30 min practice sessions. Review: Managing the 5" between my ears - I found this book to be enlightening and thought provoking. Lots of lessons here to practice, most not on the course. I only gave 4 stars until I can apply what I have learned!

Outstanding
This book brings a new perspective to golf that makes it more enjoyable. It is an easy read that gives insight to all types of players from beginners to experienced. My only regret is not reading it sooner.

Think right and you'll play right!
A friend lent me her copy of this book after watching me suffering on the golf course. I have a lot of good shots on the course but hadn't done a good job of putting them all together at the right time to score well. After reading it I played a very tough course on a very windy day and the thing was, I wasn't rattled and stayed much more focused and at the end of the day I parred the last three holes in a row! So rare for me to do that in the past. After that I decided to buy my own copy and am marking the book all up so I remember more of the points. So many good tips but mostly it's helped me think right at the right time and play right at the right time. Golf is more fun now. Get it, these are principles that every golfer can benefit from.

This has to be required reading
Amazing book. I am unable to express how much this book will help your golf game. Do not shy away from the difficult. Lean into the impossible... And make it possible.

The game in your head
Along the lines of Rotella's "Golf is not a Game of Perfect", this book does a nice job of helping the reader sort out the right way to think about the game. Getting out of your own way is crucial as any sports psycologist will tell you. Golf54 has several uniques and effective ways of making that idea work in reality. Highly reccomended.

Well worth the read!
I used to dwell on the negatives and this book gives you tools to become a better golfer and person. Looking forward to implementing it on the course.

Some very good ideas to help golfers improve - but too repetitive, and not always practical
If all the repetition was removed this book would be about 40% of it's published size, and more interesting/useful to read. In saying that, the ideas are very good, overall. I had arrived at many of them independently myself (having coached my son from age 4 to 13, and to his current handicap of 6), and they do work. Many are just not practical though - the expectation seems to be that you have your own golf course to practice on, and that you can practice however you want. I don't know of any courses where you could do many of these things - other people tend to get in the way, and for sure many courses would kick you out (e.g. playing off the grass rather than the mats courses insist on). But I do agree with the authors - mats are VERY unrealistic practice. Another big problem is matching this book's concepts with golf instructors. We read this book on the recommendation of a pro from my son's club. But my son's pro instructors absolutely do NOT follow what is in this book! They should. But they don't. So, it's a good book, full of good ideas. It's more for adults though - and it rightly focuses on the mental side. I do recommend it if you are serious about improving your golf. But the repetition is a real drag - it needs editing.
