Rock solid with great performance
I have three of these now, a 512GB and two 1TB units. They're all great. Very fast, very well made, but they do get hot. The metal enclosure does a good job of shedding the heat from the chips but it does get hot to the touch especially on writes. It's common to see sustained reads and writes 400+ MBPS and will absolutely hit the advertised speeds for bursts especially with big files. (I have gotten 900+ MBPS on read occasionally with the smaller drive with large files on USBC). It doesn't suffer a dram cache limit like some other drives )or I haven't gotten it to show any sign of that with sustained speeds across the whole transfer). This drive compares favorably to the best Samsung SSDs I have and thats the highest praise I have.

Sturdy with good speed.
I waited to write this review until I had used this drive for several months. I regularly use a flash drive for both backup and syncing of my several computers. Routinely I would access a drive 2 to 6 times a day and carry it my pocket most everywhere I go. Most modern flash drives work pretty well for my purposes except they tend to physically fail while they are still functional electronically. I need both type usb a and usb c connectors. Many drives have some kind of swivel or slider mechanism to make this work, and every such drive I have tried has physically failed in one way or another-- won't lock in position, swivel becomes hopelessly loose etc. With this drive there is no slider to wear out. You could lose the usb a cap, but it is slightly magnetic and has never come off in my pocket. The usb c cover is built into the drive and pivots open. So far it seems to be holding up well. The drive is made of metal, feels solid, and moves large files quickly. You can get faster ssds, but this is quite fast and pocketable. It worked just fine on Windows, Mac, and Android. No cord necessary. I got 1 tb for sixty five dollars. That's a good price. I recommend it with no reservations.

Easy to set up, worked properly
First impressions of this SSK external storage device are very good. I have had it for less than a day, so I can’t speak to durability or longevity. The device has connectors for a traditional USB port and the more modern USB-C ports. I found it tricky to rotate the cover to expose the part that plugs into a USB-C port. I have destroyed many such parts in the past, so I try to be extra careful. The other end is a traditional USB plug with a cover that can be pulled off. The instructions advise against using cable adapters. This might be an issue if your device has a Lightning connection. I bought the SSK drive to do backups. I use Carbon Copy Cloner, which creates a copy of the MacBook Pro’s disk drive onto the backup media. After I plugged the one-terabyte SSK drive into my 2019 MacBook Pro, the drive almost immediately showed up on the desktop. The CCC program recommended re-formatting the SSK drive. I used Apple’s Disk Utility program to erase and format the SSK drive for a Mac. (Disk Utility comes with all Mac computers.) I set up CCC for a backup. I expected it to take a long time because my hard drive has 664 gigs on its 1TB drive. The backup took 56 minutes. Subsequent backups will take less time because CCC will need only to copy new and changed files. The only problem was that the MacBook Pro lost the connection with the SSK drive. I have had this problem with other external drives, so I do not think the SSK drive was the problem. To fix this, I ejected the SSK drive. After its icon disappeared from the desktop, I removed the SKK drive and re-inserted it into a different USB-C port. I resumed the backup and it finished with no further problems. I do not know if putting the SSK drive into a different port solved the problem. As an added bonus, the SSK drive comes with a nice case that can be put on a keychain. So, I would say so far, so good. Again, the manufacturer recommends against using cable adapters or multi-port adapters. So, make sure your computer has one of the two ports that the SSK drive fits.

YES, you can buy this one with confidence.
For the record, I am reviewing the: SSK 1TB USB Drive,External SSD Fast 550MB/s 2-in-1 Dual-Drive Type C+ A USB3.2 Gen2 Solid State ThumbDrive SSD-Stick for iPhone 15/16/PS4/Android Phone/Tablet/Windows/Mac First, this thing is amazing, the solid feel of it in your hand lets you know that it will last. The metal housing is designed very well, the cap fits snugly and it really does the job and quickly. The interesting thing about this is that you do not have to eject the thing, like every other thumb drive I have ever had. There isn't even a menu option for eject. It is large enough to do my transfers easily and the copy rate is quick and I am very happy with my purchase. I think for 1 1TB drive this is pretty amazing for the price. I am sure it will be very durable and last a long time. I can Highly recommend this thumb drive.

Solid and reliable, yet slow and hot
Sleek, solid, and a fine alternative to the forced "Cloud" storage mechanisms baked into too many proprietary OS apps nowadays; The case was a nice touch, as well. If your device motherboard doesn't support expansion options or compatability, this can be a decently affordable solution to safely prevent data corruption until you have a more modern device. The only reason I gave it Four stars is due to its oddly frustratingly slow transfer rate, and alarmingly high internal heat when plugged into a phone.

Efficient and Portable: A Smart Buy for Everyday Storage Needs
The SSK 1TB USB SSD drive stands out for its portability and user-friendly design. Having previously used traditional square-form SSDs, I immediately appreciated the compact size and lightweight nature of this device—it easily fits into a pocket without adding bulk, making it ideal for users on the go. One of the most convenient features is its cable-free, plug-and-play functionality. The integrated USB connector eliminates the need for additional accessories, streamlining the experience and keeping workspace clutter to a minimum. In terms of performance, the transfer speeds are respectable, though they do lag slightly behind premium competitors such as Samsung. The device can also become noticeably warm during extended file transfers—an expected trade-off in compact SSDs, but worth noting for power users. So far, I’ve experienced no issues with data loss, and the drive has performed consistently and reliably. The build quality feels solid, with a sturdy casing that suggests a level of durability suited for everyday use. However, as with any portable storage device, long-term resilience will ultimately depend on how well it holds up to continuous wear over time. Despite these minor considerations, the SSK USB SSD delivers strong performance and convenience at an attractive price point. It’s a well-rounded solution for those who prioritize portability and simplicity without sacrificing too much in terms of speed. Would I buy it again? Absolutely—without any hesitation. This drive has quickly become a staple in my workflow. I confidently rate it 4.9 out of 5.

Failed after 6 months - But fantastic Support
Amazing support !! Product lasted 6 months and then failed. Overheated while providing Time Machine backup for my Mac. SSK guys replaced the part, paid for most of the shipping and emailed me every step of the way. Can't thank them enough as its rare to get this level of help.
