And the silver-colored exterior latches are plastic too, and look cheap. But of course, it's not the plastic that's going to protect my valuables in a fire. That's the job of the heavy concrete-like material between the walls of plastic. And since I have no intention of testing this device to see if it works, I have to rely on the industry rating, as well as the reputation of the company that made it. The weight of the safe does not give me the illusion of impregnability. We have this to store our passports, wills, deeds, automobile titles and the like. We'll keep our gold bars, magic rings and plutonium reserves in our imaginary subterranean vault. Not bad, should suffice. Oh yes. You will be surprised by the stench when you open this. Drag it into the garage to off-gas for a while. Wiccans may want to try a cleansing spell or get a priest to perform an exorcism. It's bad, but only for a few days. It seems the engineering budget went entirely into the weight and not into the security hardware. Even before it failed, the lock felt flimsy and inadequate for something marketed as a safe. Broken on day one and not worth the price.
