4 x Easy fill hanging baskets 14" Black

I planted these up in May and they are beginning to fill out beautifully to completely cover the baskets.. This was the first time I have used these type of baskets and I did watch a few Youtube videos first. Nevertheless they are very easy to plant up. All you need is some decent compost and gel crystals and feed if you wish. I recommend you place the basket on an upturned bucket or similar to give some height so that when you fill the lower compartments you are not damaging the plants as they hang down. No messing about with liners or moss - a great invention. The chains are very sturdy and easy to clip on. You can also turn the basket easily when it is hanging without unhooking it if you feel that one side is getting less sun or even if you just want to change the view from the kitchen window like me! This is the perfect size for me - with 12 compartments and five plants on the top any bigger would be too heavy once watered. I will be buying some more!

I saw these on a shopping channel and thought they were a brilliant idea. And they are, but there are some points I wish I'd been aware of before buying so I'll cover them here. Firstly when filled with plants and compost (bear in mind you need around 17 plants per basket...4 in the bottom layer, 8 in the middle and around 5 to plant the top) they are extremely heavy. I mean seriously heavy! I had already had 6 brackets put up and had I been aware of how heavy they are I would have researched heavy duty hanging basket brackets. The ones I had weren't really cheap, but you can get better, and the hook where you hang the basket bent to a 45 degree angle immediately. They are still holding though after a week, but I'm concerned the ones on the side of the doorways will pull out from the wall. Get them put up really securely. Don't even think about using those high/low gadgets to make easier watering, they won't hold, not a chance, however, the free swivel hooks are very good, and very strong. Secondly, you're supposed to 'dome' the compost at the top according to a video I watched (search on youtube) and you do actually need to do this to get the top plants' roots in deep enough, due to the plants below. However, when you water it the compost floods out everywhere. I ran my thumb around the edge to create a little well, but I'd advise a really fine rose setting on the watering can/hose, and keep stopping to let it sink in. It's a bit difficult to know when you've watered enough to reach the bottom plants, but I'm just checking the plants themselves daily. Even though the flowers on my plants aren't out yet, they already look good and I can tell they're going to look much better than any I've had before. After a week, the lower layer plants are still looking healthy so I think I'm going to have a lovely display this summer. I'd definitely recommend them, but just be aware of the weight and make sure the brackets are strong, and that they're put up really securely. Hope this helps!

As with the majority of the other reviews, this product is firmly 5*. For the cost, quality, and ease of use, these baskets, put simply cannot be beaten. If you google "Easy Fill Hanging Baskets"' there are several videos you can view on how to get the best out of these baskets. It might look easy, perhaps it was just me, but I had some difficulty with the gates. Once I knew how to do these though, it was a doddle. You have to snap them in to place. This was not obvious when I first looked. I have yet to see my flowers bloom but the initial signs are very encouraging. There are various sizes that you can purchase, but personally, the 12 inch baskets were too small, and the 15 inch too big. This size for me is perfect. Overall, I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants the best looking hanging baskets in their neighbourhood!

I have just finished filling my new hanging baskets with plants. They are marvellous and even better than I expected when I first read about them. It really makes the job of preparing a hanging basket a simple pleasure with the twelve cut outs in the plastic basket in which a tender bedding plant can be inserted without any damage to the roots. The little plastic gate is then inserted into the space and the plant is secure. It really is a pleasure to use these baskets and I would recommend them to all gardeners. No more cutting holes in the basket liner and forcing tender roots through and they look great when you finally hang them. As my heading says "An excellent purchase".

Bought these back on the 20th October, mainly due to the price and for the summer of 2013. I decided not to have them standing around until then so I planted them with winter pansies at the end of October, and all I can say is wow, the plants were established after about a week and are now thriving. Simply to plant and superb value for money,these planters are far better than the standard hanging baskets that can be bought for much less money, but if like me you decide to pay that little extra you wont be disappointed. Hope they will last but can't comment on that as they are on a few months old. Will be buying another 4 in the near future.

I have given a four star rating because of how well suited this product is to me. Im not an experienced gardner so my issues could be on account of this rather than actual product issues. On the other hand you do not need to be a green fingered genius to use this product, it is pretty self explainitary. The only issues i have come across is it does not retain water well so the basket needed regular watering, to fix this a little i added water retaining crystals so that problem was easily avoided. Another issue was the way the little doors fitted into the holes, they are not a very secure fit meaning a little soil escaped. I was using these for strawberries and cherry tomatoes and they appeared to work well. With a little more experience/practice i think i can get this to work better next year.
