good price & fast delivery
Hi this machine is very reasonably priced and is a easy to use tool, The weak points are mainly the depth stop as it uses the main body which is made of plastic on to a metal stop screw and unfortunately this means it is easy to grind too deep which may weaken the chain. On the machine I had the main clamping screw to hold the chain was bent so I have replaced it with a larger gauge and it seams fine now.

portek mini chainsaw sharpener
It does the job it's made for but as yet I haven't tried the sharpened blade in the saw. !!! The big downside to this item is the assembly and operating instructions. They are the worst that I have ever seen. If you use a bit of common sense you will manage O.K. but better instructions should be the norm not the exception. for this reason it warrants 4 stars instead of 5

Avoid !
I wish I never bought this, as it's nearly bu##ered my chain. The position of the grinder makes it flatten the cutting edge of the chain, rather than rounding it out as you would with a round file.

Pleasantly surprised!
Never written a review in my life but I was so pleasantly surprised by this little piece of kit because I`m old skool and thought it would be junk / shred my chain. I`ve got the chainsaw on the go around 30 days a year. In an average day, I will go through 2 stihl pico chains. I was brought up sharpening by hand and I reckon I could spend up to an hour a time getting 1 chain sharp and consistent. By hand you can get it sharp but nothing like the feel from a brand new chain. Setting the machine up so the cutting heads are consistent takes a few efforts and I recommend using an old chain to practice with cos the grinder is not forgiving if you get it wrong. It will grind to 30 degrees and swivel both sides. If you are attaching to a work bench watch out for clearance on the full 30 degrees because it has a short base and doesnt come out far enough from the bench. Once you get the hang of it, I can sharpen 76 teeth in less than 5 minutes then switch the chain onto the vice and file the rakers in another 5 minutes - note I think it only sharpens cutting angle on teeth and you still have to do your rakers by hand. That means I can do a chain in 10 minutes which makes a huge difference to my day. The chain is almost as good as a new chain and making feathery chips. I considered buying the new EZ File from Stihl which does teeth and rakers in same pass. Its a great idea by Stihl but I think this machine and do the rakers by hand in the normal way will probably make a better job. Couldn`t be happier.

This is a cheap solution to sharpening chainsaw blades. It works.
This is a cheap solution to sharpening chainsaw blades. It works.WARNING! THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE AWFUL TINY UNREADABLE PICTURES AND USELESS DESCRIPTIONS AND THE PORTEX YOUTUBE VIDEOS ARE JUST AS BAD JUST SOME BLOKE USING ONE FOR A MINUTE AND A HALF WITH NO DIALOGUE. COME ON PORTEX DO AN AMERICAN IDIOT PROOF OUT OF THE BOX COMENTRY ON HOW IT WORKS AND WHAT YOUR BLADE SHOULD LOOK LIKE AT THE END.(Saying that it didn't take too long so sort it out but I have been in engineering for many years)The base is metal and sturdy and the angle settings lock in quite positively. The actual blade stop is metal but the adjustment behind it is plastic but ok.The blade clamp works but is a bit flexible I tucked some shim down behind mine to stiffen it up as when I changed from one angle to the opposite hand it was a little off centre so you had to reset the back stop still not got it quite right but only done three chains. The motor body is a little flexible where the down stop hits so a light touch is required or it can go too deep, also the motor is a little under powered so a light touch again. The chain slot in the casting is a little wide and it can jam when you pull it through if you've not got the nack.Took about 12 mins to sharpen a chain on my third attempt so saving money already
