A great piece of AV kit unbeatable at less than ยฃ700.
After a shaky start involving a failing HDMI port, I'm reasonably happy with this unit. It boasts plenty of features and, to my ear, is tonally pleasing with it's delivery of both movies and music, and is a doddle to set up. If you like to fiddle a bit with base and treble (a poo poo for purists but not for me), that's easy too. I also find it's minimalist styling pleasing on the eye but, face it, most are these days for the simple reason lots of folks make purchases as much based on looks as performance. It's also reassuringly heavy. Not overly so but enough to make you think you've spent a reasonable amount of hard earned on it but nowhere near say the Pioneer SC LX range. I've seen criticism of the bluetooth streaming quality but, personally, I've found it perfectly acceptable once you get over the audio snobbery thing and, let's be honest, is anyone paying for Tidal and the lieke ever going to be happy with bluetooth? I think not.. Picture quality is good too, even with pass thru which can sometimes be a mute point with AV amps. I use an Amazon Echo cube for my viewing (although not for music) and find the results more than acceptable. A major selling point with this unit is you "gets a lot of bang for your buck" (or, in my case, pound). Especially now it's available for considerably less than 700 quid, this is a really good player. that punches above it's weight The What Hi Fi review is perhaps a bit too much of a sickly love affair and, remember reviews are as much subjective as they are objective, but I don't think for one moment this Sony will disappoint the average mid price buyer. You'd have to spend a lot more to get better elsewhere.

My sony ta-an1000 amazing amplifier 7.2
I've been a onkyo user of years but when I found the sony ta-an1000 I was very impressed with the whole thing, it is compatible with all my devices and easy to set-up with so many functions and sound features which is easily understood and controlled by a perfect remote control, with a nice feeling volume control button and it looks good, I can't believe how lucky I was to get it at such a great price

A good, midrange receiver
I had a pioneer AV receiver previously, that was 15 years old and showing signs of age. I had a Sony many years ago and it served me very well, so thought id try Sony again. The Sony TA-AN1000. I've only had a this amplifier a few days. But noticed vast improvements and upgrades. The sound is so much better. The set up was easy once I updated the amp and connected the WIFI. I wanted to future proof in purchasing this amp. I am only using 5.1 at the moment. But im looking to advance to 7.1 soon. It has many audio settings. Which is a refreshing change. Its early days, but I highly recommend this amp to anyone who appreciates good sound and knows how to set up a system. Highly recommended.

Great sound BUT faulty
These amps produce great sound and especially impressive surround effects in 360sm mode - deserving five stars. However, I've had two of them and both have been faulty, so I can't give them more than one star as they are useless in this regard. Both units suffered from a horrific metallic clang when powering on. The first unit had a very noticeable high pitched whine and hiss, particularly in 360sm mode, but this vanished after a few days (possibly a firmware update?). After a couple of months it went into an endless power boot loop for no reason and was returned to Amazon for repair. After a month of "waiting for a part" I lost patience and got a refund instead. The second unit produced the same clang on power up and whine/hiss especially in 360sm mode. This time the whine/hiss did not disappear after nearly a month of use. I did the obvious things of checking for a software update and performing a factory reset, but to no avail, and so it was returned. I did notice that the whine/hiss only appeared after the unit had gone through its auto calibration routine, which to me confirms that the fault is within the unit and has nothing to do with external equipment, cabling etc. A quick search shows several other people reporting exactly the same problems, so these seems to be generic faults in this model. I hope Sony addresses these issues, as at some point I would love to have one of these amps.

Sony TA-AN1000 7.2-Channel 8K A/V Amplifier Review: A Cinematic Masterpiece with One Quirky Flaw
If you are looking to bring the theater experience into your living room without transforming it into a complex science lab, the Sony TA-AN1000 is arguably one of the best mid-range options on the market right now. Packed with cutting-edge spatial audio and future-proof video passthrough, it hits almost every sweet spot for movie buffs and gamers alike. However, after living with it daily, one minor but persistent design quirk keeps it just shy of absolute perfection. The Good: Immersive Sound & Future-Proof Video Sonyโs spatial audio technology is the undisputed star of the show here. The TA-AN1000 features 360 Spatial Sound Mapping, which uses a calibration microphone to analyze your room's acoustics and create multiple "phantom speakers" around you. Even if your physical speaker placement isn't textbook perfect, the soundstage feels remarkably seamless, deep, and precisely directional. Watching Dolby Atmos or DTS:X content feels incredibly enveloping. On the video front, this amplifier is completely ready for modern setups. With full 8K and 4K/120Hz passthrough, alongside support for VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), it handles the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X flawlessly, ensuring smooth, tear-free gaming sessions. The interface is clean, setup is an absolute breeze, and music streaming via AirPlay, Chromecast, and Spotify Connect works perfectly. The Catch: The Morning Boot-Up Routine For all its acoustic brilliance and technical prowess, the TA-AN1000 suffers from one frustrating operational quirk: it does not automatically default to the last used source when you turn it back on after being powered off overnight. If you spent the previous evening playing a game or watching a movie on HDMI 2, you would naturally expect the amplifier to wake up on HDMI 2 the next morning. Instead, it resets its logic after a long period of rest, forcing you to pick up the remote and manually switch back to your desired input every single day. While this isn't a dealbreaker by any means, it is an annoying omission for a device that otherwise excels at smart, seamless user convenience. If you use a universal remote system like a Logitech Harmony or a smart home macro, you can easily program around this issue, but out-of-the-box users will find themselves tapping the input selector more often than they'd like. The Verdict Pros Cons โข Phenomenal 360 Spatial Sound Mapping โข Instantly forgets your last-used source after a night on standby โข Flawless 8K & 4K/120Hz gaming support โข Easy-to-use calibration and UI The Sony TA-AN1000 is an exceptional A/V amplifier that punches well above its price tag in sheer audio performance and gaming features. If you can forgive its amnesia regarding your input choice after a night's sleep, it will reward you with some of the most immersive, cinematic audio available in a mid-range receiver today. Gret amp , but stiffed on uk only features
This item does not have a tuner yet the north American version does , so a bit of a rip off , feature wise it's OK, has to be set up using a TV wich is quite annoying so cannot be used to stream until its set up Looks identical to older str-dh 1040-1060 and so on The biggest let down is the ยฃ3 remote on an otherwise expencive item , note if yiu own any older sony recievers the remotes will work
