Tamarack Technologies Return Air Pathways (14X8 Retrofit)

If you are a handyman/handyperson, then this is a suitable Do-It-Yourself (DIY) installation project. You will need the right tools and expect to clean up a very dusty mess. After I installed the Return Air Pathway vent above the bedroom door, I immediately noticed an improvement in the air circulation. This works so well, that I ordered another one. I also bought and installed a closeable vent on the bedroom side.

Purchased one of these in an attempt to correct warm guest bedrooms when the door was closed.....no dedicated return in the room. It worked and fixed our problem, in fact I tied a piece of ribbon to the vent in the hall and closed to door to test airflow. When the AC kicked on, The flow pulled the ribbon straight out and you could feel the flow by placing your hand in front of the vent. I'm very satisfied with the results and will be purchasing a few more for other rooms that we like to occasionally close when we have guests. Very easy to install and a much more cost effective option to running dedicated returns, then purchasing filters every few months, etc.

My supply is on the same wall as the hinge of the door. For the last 11 years I've tried leaving the door cracked to allow for a return air path. I didn't know about this product. Needless to say both bedrooms were never that comfortable. Out of sheer frustration I went online to do research and found these. I was skeptical as in my mind it couldn't work because the return path is still right next to the supply vent. So I called the HVAC company to come out and put returns in both bedrooms. He said the easiest and cheapest would be to install, you guessed it, these. Maybe not these in particular but a return air path which is essentially what these are. So I didn't even wait for his quote and I installed them myself. Watched the video on tamarack website and YouTube and noticed today that the rooms are much more comfortable. Normally the spare bedroom with the computer would get hot. Today I was on it and felt comfortable. That hasn't happened in 11 years. Cost me $200 for these and new oscillating tool blades plus my time. Well worth it. I bought a manometer to test the pressure, ok it cost me $240, and I'm getting the same pressure in the supply and out the rap. Well worth it for me. It fits my old brick construction home with my 2x4 walls that have plaster and sheet rock not lathe. Yes I was surprised too. Pleasantly surprised. I had widened a door before so I new what I was getting into. I chose not to center the rap as I didn't want to cut a cripple. It fits perfectly between the cripple and stud.

I replaced my current pass through (a hole in the wall with a vent on each side) with this as I wanted a more finished look and wanted to dampen the sound where I could. While it is well made, the materials are nothing fancy: sheet metal, cardboard baffle, etc. because of this, I do think the price is higher than it should be. I do like the look and happy to know there is some type of sound baffling in the pass through vent, so happy I did get it and install it.

Have a roomate that don’t like the heat but want the privacy of always shutting their room door but than it have no airflow for return air. So this product install and blend in like it was always there, their room stays cooler and did not even notice that it was installed.Do make sure the wall cavity that you choose don’t have any wires since the frame is perfectly size to both side of the wood with no rooms for wires to pass by, if your know you have wires choose the more narrow model. I only use one side of the sleeves instead of installing both, so I can let the wires to pass.

PURCHASED THIS VENT TO GO INTO A GROUND FLOOR DOOR LEADING TO 2ND FLOOR ATTIC SPACE, NEEDED THIS SO THAT ATTIC FANS COULD PULL IN FRESH AIR TO EXHAUST HOT AIR DURING THE SUMMER. VENT IS MEANT FOR THROUGH THE WALL INSTALLATION SO IS ABOUT 3 1/2” THICK. I CUT THE FLAGE AREAS DOWN TO ABOUT 1 5/8” ON EACH SIDE AND IT FITS PERFECTLY IN THE DOOR. ACTUALLY VERY EASY INSTALL IF YOU HAVE TOOLS TO CUT THE METAL FLANGE. WOULD DEFINITELY BUY AGAIN.

Product has everything I needed to complete my project. The noise blocking material also did a great job of blocking light.

Moved all my networking stuff to our closet, but need a way to get air exchange. This works perfect to get air in the room and prevent it from getting to hot. Simple to install and looks clean.
