ALTRA Olympus 5 Trail Running Shoes

I got these for a three month trip to Japan. I shattered my knee in a road accident and I have a lot of metal and screws holding it together now. I usually get knee pain when walking but these allowed me to walk 20,000-40,000 steps a day on all manner of terrain in Japan with no issues. with knee and zero foot blisters. They're not the best looking trainers but I would happily buy again, or another version that's more stealthy in the look. Unfortunately the the soles have worn out and there are holes in the inner material after about 3 months of touring the country but I think that would be the case for most trainers.

Bright colours make for comments “look like holiday shoes”. I guess that means comfy. I like the wide foot fitting although my walking style causes the inside of the shoe to glance against the other occasionally which causes external wear to the shoe. my favourite brand alongside Topo.

I bought a pair myself because of bunions and sore feet then when my OH developed planter fasciitis got him a pair too. They are the comfiest pair of trainers I’ve ever owned and 2 other friends having issues have also bought them. Toes have room to spread and help with balance , rest of trainer not too wide. Great rocking action on the sole for comfortable walking

Already own Altra Lone Peak 6 which I found a little lightweight. The Olympus 5 is much better for my needs. Use for hiking and not running. Has a vibram sole which some dont like but I find ideal. On another buyers advice I added a superfeet insole for added arch support and I have found the perfect shoe for me. Worked out a little expensive but if it gets you what you need!! Comfortable straight from the box. Not waterproof but dry quickly. Only remains to see how they last under prolonged use. Beware ..Once you get used to a wide toe box shoe like the Altra range you cant go back to standard fitting shoes. I have a pair of Hoka which I cant use anymore.

I use them for long hikes and walks. Are well cushioned, wide toe space is luxury and lightweight. I find the stock laces slacken after double knotting frequently but other than than are perfect for my needs at the mo.

Why did you choose this product over others?: I've been using Altra for many years now for running, hiking etc. They have been my go to and I've recommended them countless times to many other people. However, I recently purchased a pair of their Olympus 5 trainers and literally within weeks they were splitting and falling apart in very strange areas - places that don't really see much movement and so shouldn't be. So, after years of being a dedicated supporter I emailed them to let them know what had happened. I heard nothing. I chased the matter up again a couple of weeks later and still, nobody has had the courtesy to come back to me. I'm afraid I won't be using or recommending this company again and feel very let down. Perhaps if they actually cared about their products and loyal customers they could become a regular name on the high street. As it goes, this won't be the case when you have sub-par equipment and no customer service.

Very comfortable shoes, they keep my feet very hot and sweaty despite the "breathable" material. They are true to size

Extremely comfortable and roomy. True to size. Altra makes great shoes, got these on sale but they're worth full price.

Los compré por la pala ancha para que mis pies no estuvieran apretados. En ese sentido el resultado es perfecto. El pie cabe perfectamente. La única pena es que tallan pequeño. Yo uso siempre el 42 y no me sobra espacio por delante ninguno. He vuelto a pedir otro par del mismo modelo 43 y estos como ya me los he puesto bastante, aunque me quedan pequeños, los regalaré.

I'm a big, heavy guy coming from a pair of Lone Peaks (which I really liked). My local trails are really rocky & rooty, so I love the extra thickness in the sole of these. The tongue seems really thin but, wearing them, I don't actually notice any difference. They feel great, they've not needed breaking in at all and I've not had any stability issues from the increased stack height. My only complaint is the laces, which need to be a good 20cm/8" longer - they're just barely long enough to do a double knot IF I don't use the last set of eyelets.
