Excellent extender
This extender has worked great for my needs and provides excellent range. I originally purchased it to eliminate a dead spot in my house and to improve coverage for my outdoor security cameras. It has performed very well in both situations, even transmitting a strong signal through exterior brick walls. One of the biggest advantages for me is that I already use an ASUS router. Setup was straightforward, and I was able to add the extender to my existing ASUS mesh network with minimal effort. Once configured, it integrated seamlessly and has provided reliable coverage throughout the areas that previously had weak or inconsistent Wi-Fi. Overall, I'm very pleased with the performance, range, and ease of integration. If you already have an ASUS router and need to extend your Wi-Fi coverage, this is an excellent option.

Connected to Old RT-AC87U
ASUS RP-AX58, June 17, 2026, $75.89, Sold By: Amazon TLDR: Excellent repeater also for older routers I never receive anything for my reviews and they are 100% my honest personal opinion. I do not like any of the new WIFI routers. You can read my original review here on Amazon about the RT-AC87U. Nothing beats it for flat out coverage. I have had many routers and I do have an older Linksys that I keep for a backup should anything happen to the 87 which is now 12 years old. I am also an ASUS product fan, not so much their support, although I have not had much need for it. I have an ASUS mobo that is still in service after 11 years which I am now running with OPNsense as a transparent (bump in the line) hardware firewall appliance because WIN10 has been depricated and it won't run WIN11 without hacks. For normal WIFI security cameras, the 87 has been great. We recently had our internet upgraded from 4GLTE cellular to gigabit fiber to the home. Minimum 100 times faster and sometimes 1000 times faster than what we had. This has been a game changer for us. We dumped satelite, the 4G LTE device and now get all our TV needs through Sprectrum as well as Gigabit internet and are saving money in the process with many more channels and a few of them premium. That meant we are now streaming to our smart TVs. Here where I sit in a theater with a computer over a projector to a 20ft diagonal screen, in the living room to a new ONN powered by Vizio, and in three bedrooms, one a smart TV Hisense, the other two connected via the Spectrum package included XUMO and the other via a ROKU Ultra I bought here on Amazon. I have changed all the security cameras to ethernet but not the TVs. Streaming to just one TV before was problematic to say the least. Now we can stream to 6 different devices with no issues, that includes three tablets. These TVs and tablets can range up to 100ft from the 87 with the signal going through multiple walls. 2.4 makes it no problem but not 5.8 and that has the better bandwidth. Hence the need for the RP-AX58 repeater. You will read lots of stuff out there about the 58 can't connect to both 2.4 and 5.8 unless the router is also a mesh router. This is false. See my attached pictures for proof. Now with that said, the AX58 will pick and choose bands as necessary to maximize throughput and works in unison with the AC87U beamforming. Bottom line, seamless high definition video on all our displays all throughout the house, even on the front and back porches. The 87 is 1/4 the way to one end of the house and the 58 is 1/4 towards the other end of the house leaving a solid 1/2 in the middle. The house is 100ft long. What I found interesting is the AX picked up a security camera I have on the far side of the shop on a totally different setup. I was not intending on that but it did. 25ft from the AX to the brick wall through an interior sheetrock wall, another 100ft through a window to the camera. It is only one nubbin but it actually works. As I said, I hadn't expected that. To get the 58 to work on both bands with a non-mesh dual band router, manually assign both the 2.4 and 5.8 connections individually. You will notice the network list on the 58 has one less than on the 87. Duh! The 58 doesn't include itself. In the network list on the 87 it shows two of the same IPs for the 58 but counts them as one. I use the same SSID on both the 87 and the 58 2.4G band and only add _5G to the SSID on both the 87 and the 58 for that band. You can use different SSIDs between the router and the repeater to lesson the confusion if you want. I know it seems strange, an AC2400 pasted to an AX3000 but it works seamlessly. I am thinking of adding another 58 in the pool area. If you are not use to the type of GUI ASUS uses, you may find this a bit unusual. I have found the GUI on all the new routers lacking along with performance, unless you spend upwhere of a grand. Spend some time with the 58 and phone a friend if you need to. I hope this helps someone.

Installation can be tricky, but works GREAT if you do it right!
I bought this to use as a Mesh Hub for my ASUS RT-AX82U Router. My ASUS Router is centrally located in my home and serves very well to every corner of my home... with one exception... inside the Garage and especially just outside the Garage Door (outside driveway). I have a Chamberlain MyQ system with cameras inside the garage and the Video Keypad (which is just outside the garage where keypads go), and my signal in the garage was about 3-out-of-5, but the Video Keypad was like 1-out-of-5 and kept losing signal constantly (making the keypad camera basically useless). I figured the best Mesh to go with my ASUS Router would be another ASUS Mesh hub, and it looked like a simple straight-forward installation, so I bought this RP-AX58. What I thought would only take a few minutes turned into a few hours of head scratching... some of it may well be my fault, but the directions couldn't have been more muddled if everything doesn't work flawlessly from the start (which it almost certainly will not). There's 3 major ways to install this (maybe a 4th too), you can use your computer's browser to access your router directly, or you can use TWO different apps... which oddly enough isn't really well explained in the instructions that come with the RP-AX58. The first App that they will send you too (ie: Step-1), is probably the worst option and something you want to avoid... as it's an EXTENDER APP and will setup your Mesh Hub as an EXTENDER not as a MESH... DON'T DO THIS (ie: avoid recommended step-1... bad on you ASUS). Later on in the instructions it links you to a second app, which is the ASUS Router app... which really is just a mirror of using your browser to access the router directly... so if you want to setup as a MESH (not an extender) it doesn't matter if you use the Router App or directly access your Router through your browser... it's two ways to do the same thing. Here comes the fun... 1) Go to your AI Mesh tab and select + Add AI Mesh Node 2) it will now scan for your AX-58, find it, you select it, and it sets it up! 3) You're now ready to go... plug it in anywhere you want and see if it does the job for you (White light is strong signal, Yellow light is weak signal and Red light is no signal). Except... If everything isn't perfect (and it probably won't be) Step 2 will spin and sit and spin, then say "no device found". UGH! This is where the instructions start suggesting "update to the latest firmware"... and if you can't hook it up wirelessly, you'll need to hook it up directly to your router with an ethernet cable, find it under the clients, and try and do a firmware update from here... then reset the AX-58 pushing the tiny pinhole reset button and try again... which I did... and... "no device found" UGH! I spent a lot of time stuck at this point... couldn't figure out what was wrong. Eventually as it turned out... my RT-AX82U Router didn't have the latest firmware, even though it was set to automatically update it's firmware. I had to manually download the latest Router firmware and install it old-school to update my router. Once both my Router and the AX-58 had the latest firmware... ONLY THEN WAS IT FOUND WHEN ADDING A NEW MESH NODE and I was finally able to proceed... I can't vouch for if this happens with other brands, but if you're doing ASUS Router to ASUS Mesh Node, make sure BOTH THE ROUTER AND THE AX-58 have the latest firmware, or they won't link-up. Once the AX-58 is setup as a Mesh Node, you can unplug it and plug it in anywhere you want and wait for it to pickup a signal and see if it does what you want it to do. For me, I knew I had a moderate signal inside the garage but the garage door itself prevented a signal from reaching my video keypad just outside the door (at least from the Router's position inside the house). I plugged-in my AX-58 to a powerstrip I had attached to the side of my Garage Fridge, and got a strong signal there. My Garage Door opener went from 3-out-of-5 signal to 5-out-of-5 and my Video Keypad outside the Garage went from 1-out-of-5 to 3-out-of-5 and now stays connected! I am now VERY PLEASED with the AX-58 doing the job it needs to do, but the installation wasn't nearly as smooth as I had hoped it would be, due to the poor misdirection of the instructions guiding you to setup as an Extender instead of a Mesh, and not being clear on setting up the latest firmware both on the AX-58 itself AND the need for the Router to have the latest firmware... if one or the other isn't up to date, it probably won't connect as a Mesh during setup. Bottom line, if you want to use this as a MESH HUB and you know how to get to your router from your browser, you don't need to download any apps at all. Just make sure both your router and AX-58 have the latest firmware!

Great for Asus AI Mesh
I purchased in early 2026 to extend my network. I happen to have Ethernet jacks right next to power outlets so my ideal situation, using an Ethernet back haul, was super easy to do with a 2' Ethernet cable. I had a TP-Link AP instead, and while the setup was simple enough, I discovered the particular model I got had only 100 Mbps speed, which in 2025 seemed incredibly out-dated. This unit was MUCH easier to setup using the Asus router app, and has 1 Gbps Ethernet capability. The one disappointment I've discovered as others is that at least with my "affordable" Asus router this unit will not extend the guest network. Kind of a disappointment since I put all my home automation lights (Kasa) on the guest network and it would have been nice to give them a better signal. AI suggests that the pro model routers may be able to assign this AP to any network but I haven't tried it.

complete incompetent garbage
from the top: I was connecting this as a repeater, not to an AI mesh router. this is how that went: it connected right up but I couldn't access the settings using the unclear useless instructions I finally did so consulting chatgpt ai which gave me the access address plus the username and PW that asus doesn't supply that you need if you are setting it up using the phone app, which is, by the way, admin and admin, but it's not published anywhere on the device, nor in the instructions! chat gpt isn't the greatest either so that took me hours. at 1 point, I went to the Asus website and downloaded the router finder thing for Windows and ran it. The app found the equipment but then I couldn't access the settings because the app said the router was on a different subnet mask than my computer. but i checked and they were the same! Eventually, by hook and crook, I got access to it's page, initially trying that app one more time which mysteriously worked for a change and then i went to the settings and changed them , turning on security, etc. I changed it's 2.4g and 5G settings to network name and my passcode. I thought all was fine, except this POS doesn't stay connected to the network no way, no how whether it's 2 feet from my network hum of 20 feet. once connected, unplugging and plugging back in a single wifi security camera from my system will knock it offline and it won't reconnect until I recycle it by unplugging it and replugging it back in, sometimes several times! but then it goes back offline and won't reconnect without unplugging it and plugging it back in again. but that is not all! at one point I tried to push the pin in and factory reset it, which is supposed to take 15 seconds. I held it for 0 seconds BUT NOTHING EVER HAPPENED! the light didn't change to yellow or anything. it just kept blinking blue (connecting mode). the Asus help line stays busy and the video at amazon to click on at amazon for this purchase IS A VIDEO FOR A DIFFERENT BRAND! reminds me fo the last Hewlett Packard printer I bought: total junk, new out of box that never stayed online for more than 1 day and quickly not at all, like within the first week and had non existent support.

Easy setup and has strong wifi signal.
Use this asus wifi extender to update our new tesla. It worked! I highly recommend this product.

works seamlessly for me
I paired this with an ASUS AX6000 RT-AX88U from 2022, and it completely resolved my connectivity issues. It doesn't create a new SSID if you configure the AiMesh mode, it just makes the original SSID available in more areas and quietly bounces your signal to the main unit. I'm told you get lower bandwidth overall, but unless you have insanely fast internet, you'll probably never notice. My router is on the top floor, centrally placed, and this extender is on the main level, at the back of the house, with nearly line-of-sight so the signal is strong between them. With the extender, not only does my basement get great connectivity now, but so does my backyard. I can go anywhere in the house or backyard seamlessly listening on my phone to live content, and experience no drops as it would hop to mobile connectivity; it just stays on the wifi the whole time. If I recall correctly, connecting it took a few minutes, and basically demanded I install the ASUS Router app. But with that done, I was able to get the extender connected up and everything else is totally smooth. I highly recommend this unit and may eventually get another to extend the reach off the front of my house.

Appears to work, but difficult to setup.
I have a RT-RX5400 for my central router for my home network. I had an older RT-AC86U that was in my garage that was easily configured as a AI Mesh node to my RT-RX5400, which was super simple to setup and get going. However, when my RT-AC86U died, I decided to buy this as a replacement for the dead zone out in the garage. The RP-AX58 was not a simple setup, after spending two hours making sure that it was within 2 meters of the base router for initial configuration - trying the different Asus phone apps it would continue to fail. I kept resetting it to factory defaults, restarting the RT-RX5400 but no joy. I was able to finally get it to fully sync as a mesh after about 2 hours of repeating this process and it appears the unit is stable so far. Connectivity which was great with the AC86U, is only "OK" with this mesh node extender.

Disasterous Setup of ASUS WIFI Extender
Turned out to be an absolute nightmare to pair with my ASUS AX3000 router. Had yo go yo ASUS tech support and that made a small problem soon become a major issue. Applied the setting changes to my ASUS router as instructed by tech .... and lost my 5G band in my pc wifi settings. The remaining 2.4G band was much slower than my initial router set up. Tech said he would escalate the problem with a ticket number after an hour + on the phone. Long story short .... never heard back! I did a complete reinstall of the evices and now have them both operating. The new ASUS wifi extender has less of a range than the old TP_Link model it replaced. A waste of time and money. I do not recommend!
