SIOUX 652-A 1/2'' WATER HAMMER ARRESTOR

Review: Our Home is Happy and Quiet Once More - A few years ago we installed a brand new washing machine in our 100 year old house. When using the delay timer (to ensure the washing was ready for hanging on the line after breakfast), we were woken every single morning by banging, as the high tech new machine turned the water on and off with such force that our rusty old plumbing could not cope. After months of research I solved the problem with a Sioux Chief mini-restor. Unfortunately we had a brand new kitchen fitted a couple of years later, and the complex helter-skelter of new pipes under our sink caused the problem to return. This time neither buying a new mini-restor, fitting it to different pipes, nor using two water-hammer arrestors at the same time solved the problem for very long. I eventually found this larger, more heavy-duty version. It is less DIY-friendly than the smaller arrestor, and took several attempts to fit successfully without leaking. I had to buy a brass T-connector, an adapter to fit this to one end, and another adapter to fit the washing machine hose to the other end of the T. I then had to cake all joins in PTFE tape and silicone, and wait a week before turning the water back on. Finally we can sleep through the night once more.Worth every penny and hour of effort.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I installed two on my washing machine ( lg ) mini-rester aa size ( failed after 3 years ) looking for piston portion only ( screws in/out into body ??**
A: This product is not the same size as the AA

**Q: I understand this can be installed at any angle. Is there a preferred orientation?**
A: It can be installed at any angle, but up is the preferred position, especially if it will be in a place subject to freezing, as that allows it to drain.  Downward is the least preferred position as it could collect debris from the water system, which might hamper the action of the piston or cause it to leak.

**Q: What adapters are needed to install on a washing machine? I have the mini arestors on the washer now and can't find a fitting to go into this??**
A: I had already purchased 2 Sioux Chief 660-HB mini arrestors that come mounted on the necessary plumbing hardware. They didn't work so I purchased two 652-A water arrestors, removed the 660-HB arrestors from the mounts, purchased two 3/8" FLR x 1/2"FIP brass flare connectors from a local hardware store, then installed the 652-A arrestors to the flare connectors and then attached them both to the mounts from the 660-HB mini arrestors.  Saves from having to purchased a multiple of different types of connectors to mount on the washing machine supply lines.

**Q: What are the dimentions of this item?  It says ‎1 x 1 x 1 inches, which seems unlikely**
A: It is about 7 in tall and probably 1 inch in diameter and 1/2 inch threads.
