Wolves of the Beyond
This is the first book in the ‘Wolves of the Beyond’ series, telling the tale of Faolan, a wolf cub abandoned at birth because of his twisted paw. From the very beginning the factual errors bothered me – Faolan is abandoned because “the pack cannot have weakness,” whereas in reality wolves protect and care for their weak and sick. Faolan survives because he is adopted by a bear, which would have eaten him in real life. When he is only a yearling, he kills a cougar, an animal against which even a full-grown wolf stands no chance. The author feels the need to point out random things like how many toes a wolf has, but does not seem to know basic facts about their behaviour, pack structure and so on.The story meanders widely over the course of the series, wandering into fantastical territory with elements like reincarnation and a magic stone that will cure all the wolves’ deformities when it emerges from a volcano. It is childishly written, yet some of the deeper themes are likely to go over children’s heads. Having toiled through six books to get there, the ending feels very unsatisfying and inconclusive. Not recommended.

Great book for a wolves fan
My 10 year old daughter loves wolves. She does struggle to get into books. Found this quite detailed in the descriptions and she didn’t entirely understand what had happened to the bear but she enjoyed it

brilliant
Moved me from the word go. The emotions and the love that can be shared by different breeds makes me feel that we can change and that life can still be wonderful. Looking forward to reading the series.

More than I was expecting!
Recommended for people who liked the warrior cats books. More than warrior cats! Detailed, adventurous and brilliant. Only downsides are the pictures are a little childish and the title sounds quite cheesy. Otherwise a great read for all warrior cats and wolf fans!

Touching
Wolves of the Beyond: Lone Wolf is a heart warming novel that I will enjoy over and over. I will defiantly buy the next book in the series - well done Kathryn Lasky, this is as brilliant as The Guardians of Ga'Hoole.

Real good read
This book was really sad but also happy as well. You could vividly see faolan and thunderheart learning and playing. I would recommend this book to a person who has read all of the owls of ga'hoole books but if you are squeamish or don't like sad moments, read another book.
