## Description

Product description T he HydraLightis more than just a flash light. By expanding the barrel it becomes a hands-free lantern that supplies light to the entire area. With a hand held light you need one hand to hold the light, but with a H ydraLight y ou now have both hands free!

Review: Excellent emergency flashlight with no lifespan worries - I bought the Hydralight a few days ago and couldn’t wait to try it out! Wow, this is truly awesome! I do understand the tech behind it, but did not realize how reliable and reproducible it had become. Basically, the energy pack (aka the battery looking tube) has two different type of electrodes (I have not inspected them, but this is the principle), one of which is likely to be carbon biased and the other would be made from a common metal, for example zinc. When both of these are immersed in an electrolyte, salt water for example, the complex chemical reaction of the imbalance between ion exchanges will create a net electric flow. That’s it, pretty cool ey? What’s great about this light is that once you package it with a low energy LED, the product becomes usable unlike decades ago when the tech was known but light bulbs drew too much electricity to make this possible. Love the rugged built, have bought a few and place them in the car, around the house, in the garage, etc, great for emergencies ( we live in an earthquake prone area, plus bad storms). The only drawback is that if you lived in a dessert, or were hiking/camping in a desert like terrain, well, it does say that you need access to water to make this work! My only ask to the vendor is to produce a broader line of products, for example, options that have a USB output to charge a cell phone in an emergency, etc.
Review: Perfect Back Up Flashlight - We love this flashlight!! We got it as a gift for Christmas and then we've bought a few as gifts for other people. Just dip in water, shake, and bam you have light!! It's not as bright as our battery operated lantern...but I like that it's not super bright. If your feeling skeptical...just get it as a back up flashlight then. If you forget batteries or if they die..then pull this out and use it. Little tip: write the instructions on a piece of tape and then tape it to the flashlight. I can never remember how long to soak it so this helps a lot.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many lumens output?**
A: Disregarding the extremely exaggerated marketing with today's flashlight, are you asking about Raw Lumens or Effective Lumens? Definition of lumen: "the SI unit of luminous flux, equal to the amount of light emitted per second in a unit solid angle of one steradian from a uniform source of one candela". Hydralight advertises their lumen rating in the 80 - 100 lumen range, which is plenty bright for emergency situations. Also, don't attempt a comparison between an emergency flashlight with a tactical flashlight. The two are designed for entirely different applications.

**Q: i used hydralight one time and it turned the battery black and stopped working. what causes that??**
A: This is not an everyday use light. It is an emergency light only. It seems a majority of reviewers here are not comprehending this fact.

It uses a 'fuel cell'. Fuel is a consumable. Once consumed it will no longer produce electricity for the light. This is the very reason why the light doesn't function after someone activated the fuel cell and set it on the garage shelf and came back a week later to find it dead.

As far as the claim goes on how long a fuel cells lasts, well, your mileage may vary.

This is an emergency situation light that does not require batteries that could be dead when called upon to be used in an emergency situation. This light can be stored indefinitely in a bug-out or go-bag for a true emergency situation.

I hope this helps clarify some misconceptions about this light.

**Q: How many hours will it last total? How long before it no longer works?**
A: Actual tests show a very faint light that lasts only 15 or so hours. Not sure where this 100 hour or 300 hour claim comes from, but if you think about the amount of energy that is for a standard white LED (20ma @ 3.3VDC) you'd be looking at nearly 20Wh just from a dip in water? Just think about that claim. If you had 50 of these, you'd be able to run a 1000 Watt microwave oven for 1 hour! Sorry... free energy does not exist.

### ⭐ Doesn't work.
*by D***S on January 11, 2019*

I bought a light for my father in law for Christmas. There is an issue with the fuel cell clearance in the light housing. We charged the fuel cell with water as outlined in the directions, but the light would not turn on. When the cap was tightened, the light would not turn on, but if I unscrew the cap and hold it loosely on the cell, the light works fine. It appears the cell is a little long, or the black plastic plug in the cap (that has the foam around it) is too long. Either way it will not work.
