M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure

Simple to assemble, looks classy and works as it should. I'm pleased that I bought it

VCOM M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure is a very compact, well made & good quality enclosure. It can be left on the desk top or attached to the computer case with a couple of “sticky buds.” Assembly and connection of the SSD drive is very straightforward (with the supplied cables USB-A to USB-C & C to C) and takes a couple of minutes.

Did the job perfectly.

I ordered this because a previous attempt to order an Orico enclosure resulted in my receiving some sort of laundry product. I really wanted the Orico but decided that ordering a different product would be safer. Like the Orico, this enclosure features a lightly finned metal exterior, but unlike the Orico the interior consists of a plastic chassis with no thermal pads or jacket for the drive. Knowing how hot my other m.2 gets, I am reserving judgement on the long term performance of this enclosure. However, for now, it is working fine and the performance seems exactly the same as my other m.2 enclosure.

Got this to attach an SSD to a Raspberry Pi 3b+. I installed the drive in the enclosure attached it to the P and booted Raspberry Pi OS from the SD card as usual, opened the imager which when I went to chose a destination had picked up the SSD without my having use GParted or anything. Installed the OS, shutdown, removed the SD Card and now I'm running from the SSD 🙂 Takes about 50 seconds to boot tbh but I can live with that.

Able to use m.2 drives that were lying around thanks to this, quality is good and due to its design it is easy to switch out drives if needed. Have not tested exact speeds but it seems to be good enough for standard large file transfers

UPDATE: I found the root cause for the slow write speeds: Windows was set to "Quick removal (default)" for the external SSD, which disables write caching. To fix it do the following: - Open Device Manager. - Locate the SSD under Disk drives, right-click → Properties. - Go to the Policies tab. - Change from Quick removal (default) to Better performance. - Ensure Enable write caching on the device is checked. After enabling write caching, the Samsung 990 PRO 4TB in the VCOM USB4 enclosure achieved ~3000 MB/s read and ~2750 MB/s write, matching high-end Thunderbolt 4 performance. The only thing beating this enclosure speeds is "SanDisk Extreme Pro" only. Hope this helps anyone. PREVIOUS REVIEW: The enclosure read speeds are right where they should be for Thunderbolt 4 (~3.1 GB/s), write speeds, however, are stuck at USB 2.0 / SATA-like levels. I am using Samsung SSD 990 Pro 2TB, I tested this with two high end laptops with TB4 ports, SCAR 18 2024 and Legion 7 Pro 2024, using Samsung Magician and CrystalDiskMark. I ran the test too late, I can't return the enclosure, but will check the warranty.

استلمته اليوم وركبت فيه 4 تيرا وشغال تمام لم اجرب نقل البيانات لكن حسب مواصفاته 10 جيجا احلى شي ماتحتاج اي سكروب تركيب يدوي وايضا البدي للكيس هو مشتت حراره معاه سلكيت تايب سي الى تايب سي والثاني يو اس بي الى تايب سي وجودة الاسلاك ممتازة جدا انصح به

Funktioniert sehr gut, schön kompakt und einfach die SSD zu montieren. Was mir auch gut gefallen hat ist das man direkt zwei Kabel bekommt, eins mit usb c und eins mit usb a. Das Thermal pad hätte für mich nicht dabei ein müssen aber top für Leute die es langfristiger nutzen (externe SSD).
