Great for short Licks
I bought this to go with Blues you can use which I already have . It's just as good for improving your playing and adding to your brain Library of Licks to practice Well worth buying even if your a beginner, intermediate or guitar God. I particularly like the fact it comes with a code that you can use to view the book on line on your phone or PC which is very convenient and quick to use if your just passing your guitar and fancy a quick play. The teaching in the book and on line is easy to follow at a pace that is suitable for everyone I would say. Great book. Can only improve you over time.

Really usable Blues Licks from Ganapes
This whole series are just great sources of help and tips, and this one is No disapointment. I bought this after some good sessions with "Blues You can use" and its a really good addition.Well laid out, the licks grow in their complexity. The licks are laid out in different Blues styles ie Slow Blues , Jump Blues etc. Decent sound samples of each lick with a BT to play along as well. Its definately a 'follow on'book and will suit the intermediate player ..beginners should start with the 1st book mentioned aboveYou can't fail to progress if you follow this book.Highly recommended to help grow your lick library.

Blues Licks
This entire series of books is about the best instruction on blues I havefound.I have 5 in the series and can't fault them.Of course they could be improved somehow, nothing is perfect, but provided youare willing and motivated enough to put in the work, you will definitely learn something regardless ofyour current standard.Nothing comes easy, work at it and you will reap the rewards.

... can't use.
I've gone through two of JG's other books and rated them very highly - he has taught me blues guitar! So it gives me no pleasure to say this book has a very bad fault. Fingering the early licks at least is straightforward, they are generally from the pentatonics, but nowhere are they played on the CD with a beat behind them, so it makes learning the phrasing very difficult indeed. Even lick one's notes are a mixture of eighth and sixteenth notes in 12/8 time, interspersed between rests. The fact he plays the lick twice, the first time starting on beat one, the second time [as transcribed in the book] on beat two only confuses things further as you make your first ventures into this (for me) flawed book/CD tutor. There are backing tracks at the end of the CD over which you are supposed to practice the licks... but if things continue like this, getting the timing is going to be at best tough, and for me I'm suspecting too tough. A real shame because the book is, as always with JG, hugely knowledgeable... I'd give it 5 stars for that, I'd probably give it 5 stars too if only the licks were played above a back-beat... but they are not and (as the book's title suggests) it's usability that counts and for that it would get a two. You may very well have a better sense of timing than me... in which case you could get the huge amount out of this book which the other reviewers seem to have got, but I just got frustrated. But I'm not proud: if at some stage it starts falling into place, I'll change my rating and add to this review, eating humble pie... and I'd be pleased to do so, until then 3 stars is mean because this otherwise great book only has one flaw, but it is also wildly generous because that flaw is a fatal one.

Pretty Good Intro to Playing the Blues
This is a good start to playing the blues and uses the playing pieces to explain the underlying theory and techniques as each chapter develops. You'd need to know a few basics of playing chords and barre chords and a fingering scales - but that's more to do with dexterity as each scale and chord is explained as you progress. If you're past the banana fingers feeling, then this will work for you. Each of the playing pieces can be developed further as you get used to playing them and could be built up to full solos and improvised into better sounding songs as time passes and familiarity is gained. If you've played for a few months this could be a good stepping stone to soloing.

Buy this Book !!
If you're one of those people who have been playing for a while and have been studying scales and don't know how to apply them then this book is for you! I have had it for a couple of weeks and my playing has changed out of all recognition. I have been playing for years and struggled to play lead guitar but even my missus has noticed as I take the licks in this book and start improvising with them, and I've only got up to lick number six too! I can't wait to really memorise and master these and I'm already looking at buying the second book next. There are many tuition books and DVD's out there that I have wasted money on but this is to the point and actually lets you get on with it and play stuff instead of just going up and down scales repeatedly. I cannot reccomend this book more.
