Flymo Contour 500E Electric Grass Trimmer and Edger, 500 W, Cutting Width 25 cm, Orange

I'm delighted with the grass trimmer, which is sturdily built, powerful, looks nice, works well and is good value for money. It is packed into a small box, so it needs a bit of assembly, but the parts push together and click into place - no tools are required. The grass trimmer does a neat job, but the automatic feed only operates when you let the machine stop, so if you keep it running, the cutting cord soon becomes too short to do anything. I'm glad I bought some extra cords! (There is a manual feed, but you'd be daft to operate this without unplugging, which is inconvenient at best.) I particularly like the lawn edging facility - the little wheel helps to guide along the edge of the lawn and to produce a neat finish. This is particularly important to me: I got the 25 cm machine to it wouldn't dig down too far at the edge. It says that the start switch needs two hands (to ensure you don't endanger your hands) but it doesn't! However, it would be hard to start it accidentally and it would need some contortion to get one hand in the way. It comes with a 10-m orange flex with an ordinary 3-pin mains plug, which is good because I guess most people will need to use an extension cable. The machine has cable storage lugs, although I tend to coil the cable and hang it up with the machine. There isn't really an easy way of hanging the machine up in my shed - I will have to install a storage bracket, as I don't like things cluttering the floor. I kept my previous grass trimmer for 20 years and this looks like it will be good for the same. My Flymo hover mower has done 30 years with little maintenance - so I have high expectations for this one!

Overall a good trimmer, the double wire definitely helps cut through even the hardest weeds. Assembling the strimmer was fairly straightforward and quick. The vertical feature is decent when you need to cut downwards and get close to the grass that is against the patio/pavement The size is a bigger compared to the smaller one wire flymo strimmer and that comes with it being heavier and can be tiring when you've got a lot of grass to cut. The other handle is good to help with the weight but it can get tiring after using it. The quality is good, doesn't feel cheap even during assembly and for the price it's definitely value for money.

Works well all round. Does tidy edges and long grass. East operation.

As people who know me will tell you, I am a very hard person to please. I also very rarely write positive reviews about things I buy, but this strimmer is genuinely so good that I felt compelled to write one. But firstly, just to get them out the way, there are two slight negatives: 1) The dead man switch is a little too firm to keep pressed down, and it does end up aching your hand every few minutes. People with less strength could struggle. 2) The spool does occasionally need to be manually pulled through. However, these are the only negatives I can find. The strimmer absolutely burned through our incredibly overgrown garden (the grass was almost a meter tall in places with weeds everywhere, tree stumps to navigate, big stones and bricks hiding underneath, and stone/fence edges too) and the machine didn’t use anywhere near as much nylon as I expected it to, and it easily stood up to every test. Whilst the machine is slightly heavy - and you do have to switch arms every 5-10 minutes - the results are certainly worth the pain! Genuinely didn’t expect the experience to be pleasurable, but it really was! Top marks, highly recommended!

Delivery was quick, well packed, easy to put together, however the box was open when it arrived. Used for the first time today, item isn't user friendly as it is quite heavy, i did have to stol amd srart and swap hands, you need a very good grip to keep it running as the power leaver is narrow so it harder to grip it and keep the strimmer running, power cable is long enough to get around the garden, strimmer cable isn't the best quality and snaps really easy, cable also does not always feed through automatically.

After several seasons of backache after bending to cut lawn edges (and we have a few!) I took the time to read reviews on 'best' strimmers & this one seemed to tick the boxes, although not the cheapest out there. It arrived, was put together (simple with a little hindsight than actually on the day, but still quite easy), then out into the garden. Although it felt quite weighty at first, adjusting the front handle so that it became balanced to your height/preference made all the difference. My OH was very comfortable with it and the shoulder strap makes it even easier to move about with. It cuts well & the supplied cord seems quite heavy duty stuff that should last awhile. When the cord needs to be replaced it's well worth doing a search for 'other options' rather than the overpriced manufacturers ones. So far, well pleased with my purchase.

Easy to assemble with a little help from YouTube. Head swivels nice and easy. The cable is long so i didn't need to use an extension lead. On the first use, found it a little heavy and trying to keep the switch depressed made my hand ache. Overall a good product at a good price.

This is a great garden strimmer, very versatile and it has a unique auto twin feed cutter line. I the didn't find myself having to pull the wire out everytime it hit a large object. I have to say I've never bothered to look at the weight of strimmer before buying it, but wish I had in this case, the strimmer packs a 500w motor and has a result weighs a hefty 3.1kg. I found my forearms labouring little after quarter of an hour. The strimmer does come with an additional adjustable handle and once this is in the correct position it help to distrubute the weight more evenly. It has three tilt adjustment and also comes with a handy wheel for raised edges. It also has shrub guard and is telescopic. I would'nt hesitate recommending this product. UPDATE! 04/2021. The strimmer tilt mechanism failed, would no longer lock into the downward trim position! when the strimmer was switched on the ball kept spinning into the 'shrub' and 'edge' positions, rendering the strimmer useless really!! Contacted Flymo support, posted off the metal manufacturing label and they replaced the strimmer with a new one under the 2 year warranty....superb customer service. I have my doubts about the 3 way tilt mechanism long term, we'll have to see how this one fares? but If I was to buy another strimmer new, I would opt for a basic single potision model.

Dual switch is rubbish. Having to hold in safety switch in order to press on/off trigger is silly (I have used strimmers for years and never came across this before) Also the on/off trigger is too sensitive, any slight release of pressure and the unit switches off. If using for any period of time this is a pain, also you will need a very strong grip to keep the trigger pressed. The so called auto feed is so badly designed, having to power off for a little filament to feed is pathetic and usually you will have to cycle power several times to get enough filament, having to wait each time for it to stop spinning. I resorted to manual feed as this is quicker. This is OK for very light use and short periods. If it was not so cheap I would send it back, will just use for edges and very light work. Do not buy this very badly designed and assembly instructions also leave a lot to be desired. I looked at a quick you tube vid and it was way more helpful than the printed instructions. Oh the spool cover cap has nearly disintegrated after a single use of edging along kerbing at the edge of the lawn. Had a Black & Decker for 5 years and never had this issue, cap got a little scuffed but that was all.

Bon produit, assez puissant, mais vu que le moteur fourni 200w de plus par rapport à une grande majorité des débroussailleuses électriques, l'ensemble est plus lourd donc plus fatiguant si utilisation prolongée, il aurait été sympa, qu'un baudrier puisse s'adapter ... Vu que ce modèle vient du Royaume-Uni, il faut se procurer une fiche française étanche si possible. J'ai préféré remplacer la fiche, plutôt que de monter un adaptateur Anglais-Français.
