I teach people how to make kimchi. For years I made my own apparatus to keep vegetables submerged below the fermentation brine by cutting the bottom off a 20oz plastic soda bottle. After teaching my last class, I decided to try out some fermentation weights. The weights were packed really well, and my first impression was how pretty they were. In fact, I may use them for Christmas decorations. I used mine on wide-mouthed Mason jars and they worked well. In fact, they worked better than my homemade ones because they continually keep the vegetables submerged as the kimchi is consumed. Durable, easy to clean, and reasonably priced Highly recommend.

These are excellent. They do the job well, are easy to clean, and store nicely in the foam-lined shipping box.

They work well for large mouth jars. One was chipped before it was boxed. No chip inside the box.

These weights are exactly as I hoped they would be -hefty,large, good quality attractive glass with the handles on them shaped in such a way that they are perfect for pulling out of a slippery fermenting liquid. These are the only ones where the handles slope upwards from a smaller-to larger, creating the perfect grip for fingers on slippery glass. The problem is that over half of the large set of 9 that I ordered arrived with the handles broken more than 50% off, and I do not feel confident using the broken ones with food products. I have requested replacement and hopefully the new set arrives complete. I would love to give these a 5 if they can correct the problem. So a new replacement order of these weights arrived 2 days later in perfect condition! I can now happily change my rating to a well-deserved perfect 5, as they really are not only well designed and attractive, but effective. Thank you Amazon & Okllen.

Solid, reliable. No sharp edges. These fit the wide-mouth jars perfectly. They were extremely easy to use. They're larger-profile than others, which is their blessing and curse: they're extremely easy to use, lifting out of jars, but they cut out about 3/4 inch of storage capacity in the jar. The center grip also can block the center vent hole on fermentation lids if stuffed too tight. Just use more jars, and you'll be fine, especially with 9 weights. I never tried them in the microwave -not sure why you would, but they're pure glass, so they're surely microwave safe.

I got them for my daughter-in-law to use as sewing weights. She really likes the size and weight for that purpose.

Work ok but beware that the handle on the top can keep the lid on a full mason jar from closing.

Does what it's meant to!

I have ordered these several times as I make a lot of ferments. Excellent quality. Be sure to measure your jars to get the size right.
