Would have been better if it were longer.
It was an intriguing read, but would have been better if longer.

The Secret Path
This was the book that got me hooked on reading and will forever have a special place in my heart. Christopher Pike drew me in with this amazing series and it's just a shame that it wasn't more known about back when it first came out. I bought this book again so that I can hand it down to my children when they are old enough so they can also enjoy the magic of Spooksville.

RETRO FEELS
It's all about those retro feels. Great condition used books. Nothing much else to add really. I'm actually surprised at how well these stories hold up.

Great book for kids!
As a child who loved reading, I received a bundle of Spooksville novels for my Eleventh birthday, on of which was "The Secret Path". I was never a fan of "Goosebumps" which all my friends where reading at the time, so I was very surprised back then to have such love for the series!I'm now 25, and stumbled accross my old books whilst cleaning out boxes of childhood mementos and sat down and had a read, and all of a sudden I was 11 again! The Secret Path follows the adventures of three pre-teens who live in a town with a knack for supernatural tragedy and horror, where most Adults write off the occurences to coincidence or imagination.Adam, who is new to this town Springville (Spooksville as the kids have dubbed it) he too is skeptical about the stories his two new-found friends Sally and Watch have told him and that skepticism is soon put to the test when Watch announces he wants to walk "The Secret Path" by following the footsteps of an ancient Witch who once lived in the same town. What I loved about this book as a child was the fact that I found the characters very relatable. Adults don't listen to kids when they tell of what seem like tall tales - something I think most children have went through - perhaps to a lesser extent that dealing with Mosnters and Witches! - and I remember thinking "My parents don't listen to me either!"Having the children as heroes who have to juggle their adventures with problems of home and school kind of had me feel as though it's "Buffy for Kids" - and it really is!It tries to include children from multiple social backgrounds, such as Adam, the handsome everyman. Sally, the sarcastic loudmouth. Watch, the intelligent geek, and later characters include Cindy the Preppy girl next door, and Bryce, the charismatic thrillseeker.I remember very much getting lost in these stories, and when I wasn't reading, drawing pictures and scenes from the stories.I would reccomend this book for kids between the ages of seven and twelve. The stories, whilst at times quite dark have their fair share of daft silly moments that work for the stories!Violence, whilst present is very light, and many characters prefer to be diplomatic when dealing with opposition or use smarts to trick the enemy into letting them escape in ways that I could beleive (sometimes!) that kids could conceiveably come up with.As for the horror factor - I wouldnt call the books "Scary", so much as engaging. True there where a few scenes that had me gripped as a child, but nothing that ever gave me nightmares!Reading them now, I cringe looking at some of the situations these kids get into but I still remember why I loved it so much and I'd readily reccomend this book - and many others in the series - as a silly little gift for the kids!
