Had a little trouble removing the seat to install the back but otherwise easy to assemble
This was to replace my mothers old Prestige step stool that was about 40 years old. They built things solid in those days, but this chair so far fits the bill. Had a little trouble removing the seat to install the back but otherwise easy to assemble. Ideal dual use steps and breakfast bar stool.

Great chair
I just got the chair yesterday, but I wanted to write a review about the assembly of this chair. After reading many reviews from others, I was hesitant to buy the chair because so many people had a difficult time putting the chair together. First of all, it is pretty easy to put this chair together! The base of the chair arrives already assembled. The only thing you have to do is put the back rest on. The directions couldn't be simpler; only 3 steps. First, you have to take off the seat (it is already on the base). No big deal, unscrew the 4 nuts and that's done. Second step, screw in the back rest. It can be a little, and I mean little, bit difficult to get the second screw in, but I used a screw driver to push the bolts all the way into the holes and then put the washers and nuts on the bolts. Step 3, put the seat back on. Ta-da...done!!! Easy! Maybe the company fixed things since so many others had problems with the assembly, I'm not sure. But, don't let those negative reviews stop you from buying the chair!! One thing that you do need to be aware of (that someone had put on their review also) is to NOT open the box with a box cutter or anything sharp. The cushioned seat is at the top of the box and it will easily get cut if you do. So, I hope this helps! The quality is sturdy and seems durable. Like I said, I've only had it for one day, but so far very satisfied!

Exactly how I remember my grandmas chair ......perfect for toddlers and kids!!!!
I bought this for my three year old to use as "her" chair ! Pros & cons ....... Steps can be left pushed in or out ! Steps make it extra safe for my daughter, she has had an accident where a chair fell sideways on her as she was climbing up the side of it! It would never happen in this chair ! Heavy, but easy enough to slide around the kitchen! I haven't used my real step stool since I purchased this! Saves time and energy! I bought the white and can see how over time it can become stained from spills...just wipe up spills immediately ! 50s kitchen look ! Well made ! Quality is unbelievable! Very easy to assemble ! Took ten min ! I though the back of the chair would be a little taller but it turns out it is perfect for what I needed it for !

Expensive for the quality.
12/11/19 This is an update to my original review. I have had EXCELLENT response from the seller regarding the damaged product I received. They have generously offered me a 50% discount for the damage, which I think is extremely fair, and I was more than happy to accept. D. Zaranti Regarding my heading, I believe this item was $78. After having it in the home and observing the quality, I would have felt a lot better paying $50. Still, this company seems to have a corner on the market and there are no other options if you need this particular product. ๐ I was disappointed to find that the finish was marred in four different areas (I included a picture of the worst one, where the paint is scratched off down to the metal). I'm also missing one of the rubber caps for one of the legs. I have contacted the seller and am waiting for a response. Many people in previous reviews complained it was difficult to put together. I am a small (barely five feet, that's why I need a step stool ๐คฃ), 67 year old woman and it took me about 45 minutes with absolutely minimal issues to assemble...that included time to take the pictures. My best advice is to ignore the direction's suggestion that you use a screwdriver and pliers. I tried using those initially with little to no success. Dug around in my husband's tool box and found an open end box wrench that did everything and was MUCH easier to use. Note: it is metric, but it fit the nuts. It worked perfectly! (10mm) There were several other comments about how difficult it was to get the seat off the frame. It WAS a little challenging, but a few well-placed bumps with my fist knocked it off (couldn't find our rubber mallet). The back was a little wonky and didn't exactly align well. By the time I got the bolts tightened, it seemed okay except then I couldn't get the seat to fit back into its holes. I had to loosen the bolts for the back, push the seat back into the holes and then retighten the back bolts, finishing assembly by tightening the seat bolts. All in all, not that difficult. Also included pictures to answer some questions I noticed in previous reviews. I show it next to our dining room table, it is too high even for a child to use it to sit at a dining table that is standard height. However it's perfect height for our snack bar. There is another item of this type where the steps slide out and back under the stool. This particular one has hinged steps that you pull up and out. In my mind this seems like it might last longer. It does have a 5 year warranty.

Seems sturdy and was easy to assemble.
The Cosco Chair/Step Stool 11-18WHT seems sturdy, was easy to assemble. Meets my need to reach into higher kitchen cabinets, and having a stool at my kitchen counter. White is the only color option for this product, which does not match my kitchen dรฉcor. If the stool was available in other colors (especially black, or even almond), I would have rated it 5 stars. We selected this stool to replace the less expensive Cosco Chair/Step Stool with the lift-up seat and stationary steps, but that model was a horrible product -- very wobbly, unsafe, difficult to assemble, and the padding split easily. I hope this model is sturdier -- only time will tell. We have only been using it for 1 - 2 weeks so far. Update on April 1, 2016: After 4 months of daily use, the Cosco 11-18WHT Retro Chair/Step Stool remains in excellent condition, and very sturdy. I do not hesitate to use it to reach into upper cabinets, change light bulbs in ceiling fixtures, etc. -- no wobbly step stool here (I have balance issues, so a sturdy product is a necessity). Assembly was extremely easy compared to its less costly, unstable counterpart. I plan on purchasing another Cosco 11-18WHT step stool for my laundry room.

Decent but could've been made better
I bought this stool to use in my Kitchen for myself and my granddaughter. Since the construction of the chair isn't that great, I'll be using it for my granddaughter only. I truly am fearful the chair will collapse under me even though it says supports up to 225 lbs. Also, putting the back of the chair on was a bit difficult, you have to remove the seat first to do it, and the nuts/bolts aren't the same size on the entire chair so it took a few to find a socket that would fit. But, all said it is a great stool and the steps pull out from underneath and have a lock bar to keep them in place so they are safe. The granddaughter loves that feature! Would buy it again and recommend it to others. :)
