Tibetan Tantric Choir

I will rarely if ever say my critique of an item on amazon is almost purely a matter of taste. In this case, I would say it is. I agree with every review that's been written about this album - good and bad.Some people will really hate this album. I think it's great. I find it very relaxing. I honestly don't know if I'd call it music though.Listen to the samples - that's pretty much how the whole album sounds, with nearly undetectable variations.It kind of sounds like the drone of the refrigerator attached to a vocoder. Unlike Tuvan throat singing, etc, it's honestly debatable if it's music. There's virtually nothing resembling rhythm and there really isn't any structure beyond maybe a measure repeated a couple of hundred times at points. There are harmonies, but no real melodic structure.The closest thing I can think of to this is the drone of ambient trance and the occasional Vangelis piece.On the downside, if I put this up loud enough, this makes my fillings shake. I'm not kidding. Tons of bass.

Many years ago after reading about Richard Feynman's efforts to reach Tuva to hear the famed throat singers, I purchased a vinyl copy of of "The Gyuto Monks: Tibetan Tantric Choir." It became a favorite sound when I wanted to bring an atmosphere for Buddhist meditation into my room before sitting or when I needed to sit but couldn't. My vinyl was packed away many years ago, and I frequently looked for a CD replacement so I could continue to hear this most wonderful sound. Finally I found it last month. The peace returns. I love the visceral quality of the intonations of these monks in their very different path to enlightenment using simultaneous overtones of impossibly low notes combined with high notes--in one person. It will take you to another world!

I don't own a lot of chanting recordings. Yet, I have to admit that I find this exceptionally relaxing and very conducive to my evening meditation. The vocal gymnastics of these monks is interesting in and of itself. Each monk is singing a three note chord.In my old age I am getting more interested in spiritual matters and I've been reading a lot of Thomas Merton, Thich Nhat Hanh, HH The Dalai Lama, Dietrtich Bonhoeffer,etc. These Tibetan Chants have the unique beauty found in spiritual art.

Interesting. A little information about what the monks are saying and how they are doing it would have been very useful and motivational (helpful) for appreciation of their efforts.

IF YOU MEDITATE OR EVEN LIKE CALM AND RELAXING SOUNDS YOU WILL LOVE THIS CD. I USUALLY PUT IT ON FIRST THING IN THE MORNING WHEN I ARISE TO MEDITATE AND THEN TO REVIEW MY DAY. THIS CD IS BOUND TO RELAX AND SOOTHE THE RESTLESS SPIRIT. IN THE EVENING BEFORE RETIRING I AGAIN LISTEN TO THESE ENCHANTING SOUNDS TO PREPARE FOR A DEEP SLEEP. THE VOICES OF THESE MONKS ARE INCREDIBLY COMPLEX, CAPTURES ONES COMPLETE ATTENTION AND IS TOTALLY ENJOYABLE.

como decia en la review de los otros 2 cds me quede impactado y como no podia sacar de mi cabeza estas profundas vocez...a los 2 meses busque el programa de radio en la web encontre quienes eran y escuche el pre-view en amazon de cada cd ,termine comprando 3; los escucho a toda ora en casa

The low harmony this group creates is special. I feel relaxed after listening. Spend some time listening, it only gets better & better. Enjoy!

Lacking the resonance and impact of the live Tibetan singing I've attended.I believe the recording equipment is mostly to blame.

Close your eyes and you could be there yourself. The track with the accompanying instruments is hypnotic, entrancing, and inspires reverence just by listening. I am currently researching buddhism and this has inspired me towards the Tibetan path.

I enjoy this CD and often have it on as a background to my early morning - offering a feeling of peace and tranquility.

Gyuto Monks are very special, I adore their chants and mantras. Pure Buddhist chants - not elaboration !!!
